Misbah speaking to reporters:

“The way Babar Azam has been targeted is not right. No matter who is the captain, a change should only be made after assessing things thoroughly. Decisions should not be taken just for the sake of putting pressure on others"

“It is unfair to compare Virat Kohli with Babar Azam. Kohli has played a lot of international cricket, meanwhile Azam has just started his career. We should do the comparison when both have played the same amount of cricket. Kohli’s achievements are unmatchable at the moment"

“Babar is a classy player. His performance has been excellent so far in his career and he is among Pakistan’s greatest batters. He is among the top five players in the world, in terms of rankings, every year because of his quality"

“Pakistan have done well in white-ball cricket but the same can’t be said about Test cricket,”

“Babar Azam is not solely responsible for Pakistan’s performance in Test cricket. There is lack of planning and proper team selection in Test matches.”

Babar is approaching 8 years as an international player. What does Misbah mean when he says Babar has only started his career?

Misbah is living in his own world and is far away from reality. Babar is not a youngster or someone who has just started playing cricket as Misbah thinks. He has played 47 test matches and scored 3696 runs at an average of 48.6 He has played 95 ODIs & 99 T20Is. Babar is one of the best batsman in Pakistan currently but still he should not give statements like he doesn't have to prove anything regarding his credentials as a player.

Misbah is claiming that the way Babar has been targeted is not right. Someone should remind him that Pakistan has lost 2 back to back test series at home and managed to draw test series against Sri Lanka & West Indies. Pakistan has failed to win even a single test match out of 8 tests played at home and specially humiliated by England in test matches & 7T20Is. What kind of response he was expecting? Who is responsible for improper selection, poor planning, poor wickets? No one will take responsibility whether it is Ramiz or Babar or Mohammed Wasim but questions needs to be asked.

Nice encouragement from one of Pakistan's GOAT test captains and I tell you what he is bang on the money as usual.

Misbah is 100% correct. Pakistan cricket was badly let down by Ramiz dead pitch strategy and Saqlains inept coaching credentials.

However, longer term we have been let down by the poor state of FC cricket in the country and the lack of player development.

Babar is a product of this chaotic environment and can't be blamed for the collapse of the test side. For tests he is the best we have and needs to be supported by world class strategists and coaches.

This goes back to the argument - how much say does Babar have in key decisions such as playing XI.

But surely on field tactics are his domain.

on field tactics depend on the quality of personnel.

Only so much you can do when you are opening the bowling with Muhammad Ali and Fahim Ashraf and are backed up by rookie Abrar and journey-man Nauman.
