“This is the first time I have seen such seaming conditions from overs 1-75” : Mohammad Rizwan

Mohammad Rizwan speaking to the press at end of Day 2

"We have pitches where the ball seams in Pakistan such as in Abbottabad but this is the first time I have seen such seaming conditions from the 1st over to the 75th on; This is the first time in my career that I have had such an experience"

"When Babar Azam was playing alongside me, I was playing in a more compact manner but once he was out and the tail enders came in, then as you know, we have to look for runs; In international cricket there are phases where you need to score runs and when you need to concentrate on staying - both those phases came for me today; When the tail came in, I attacked and thankfully it went ok for me"

"Ball was seaming from 1-80th overs and we have a good score for so our fast-bowlers to work with"

"It was a bit disturbing to come on and off the field and the lights were on all day; Its tough for a batsman as you get set and then then go off and then comeback again but these are problems everyone will face in international cricket, as its not an easy level of cricket to play - and we will have to face this issue; Things have not been easy due to rain and bad light but thankfully our position is still very good"

"This is an important experience for me because when I play in domestic cricket, I bat with the top-order but here I have had to bat with the tail which is a new experience; When we came off in the middle, I spoke with Misbah and Younis to ask them about their advice for this situation (of batting with tail enders); Both of them gave me tips as batting with the tail is a learning process for me; I need to learn how to build up my innings and for the team"

"We've fought well so far and if we can get 30-40 more runs then it will increase our chances (of winning); Given the seaming conditions in Southampton, I feel that we can bowl them out at a score which will be close to our 1st innings score, even if we are bowled out for 230 or so; It will also be difficult for them as the ball is seaming conditions so its not easy to bat"

"Our fightback is in front of everyone, and we are in a good position; Our bowlers like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Abbas and Naseem Shah, who showed their worth in Manchester but luck favoured the opposition there; Even here they are capable of doing well, including Yasir Shah and we are hopeful that we will be in a good position"

"I hope that Allah will guide people who criticize me and I don't know who is criticizing me; I only care about my cricket, and I am leaving all results to the Almighty; I try my best and that's all I know"

"I will never ask for a specific batting position - whatever role I am given, I try and fulfil that as its the demand of the team and the situation of the game"

"When Babar Azam was there I had a different game strategy - once he was out, my plan was changed by the team management and I followed that plan and was successful in doing that"

"I have changed my batting stance a bit, Younis Khan has told me to hold the bat a little higher; This slight change was discussed with Misbah as well because we have seaming conditions; But I only did that when I was looking for runs at the later part of the day as before I was playing in a compact manner; Younis Khan told me to do this during one of the breaks today"

"We all felt the sadness of losing the game in Manchester in the same way our nation felt that as well; This was because everyone could see that this was a match we could have won; But, there is no one in Pakistan who can accuse us of not putting in effort and I will challenge them to do so; We worked hard throughout that game and we were on top in most of the sessions; But in one session, luck went their way with examples from Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler's innings where ball fell in safe areas instead of being in our hands; We are in a good position in this game and we will win this and the next game too"

"There was a misunderstanding with Rory Burns in the 1st Test match; Our players were talking amongst ourselves and Burns thought we were talking to him so our guys asked him about it; The atmosphere between both teams is very cordial and they are very nice guys, as are we"

"If you ask our opinion, we were ready to stay on in whatever light conditions at that point but the decision is that of umpires as they have to take care of player safety and its done by light meters, and not based on personal preference"

I think it’s a good comment that can be taken out of context or become lost in translation

One of the reasons why i like this guy is because of a t20 match when he was batting with rafatullah.

Rafatullah would go on to tell after winning the match that he wanted to attack every ball but rizwan came to him and told him that instead of attacking too much and lose wicket they should take singles and doubles and buil the innings. Peshawar would end up winning that t20 match

Ever since than i have hoped for him to come into the pakistani team

Wow, Rizwan comes out swinging with the religious comment! He's trying to shove it up the haters.

Was very frank in his views today - like him for that.

Exceptional innings today. Credit where it's due, I doubt Sarfraz has ever been capable of playing such a knock in very difficult conditions.

Needs to be consistent however, and show the same grit.

Seems a very confident character, but saying that 'our position is very good' is quite optimistic.

Usman the way ball is moving around and seaming overcast conditions throughout the test match, i doubt England will score more than what we will. Abbas and Shaheen can cause big problems if they get good line and Length consistently. I think another day wash out will be the end of result for this match. Pak can still level the series in next game if they survive this. Rizwan is a top order batsmen, Pak missed a trick by dropping shadab khan here, Fawad didn’t deserve to be brought in like this, he should have played from test 1. Management are just clueless bunch here.

Misbah is a joke and so is azhar ali.

Team for this game should have been this

Shan
Abid
Azhar
Babar
Fawad
Rizwan
Shadab
Yasir
Naseem
Shaheen
Abbas

Asad deserved dropping

Very good innings changed gears when required seems like hes got the grit and determination 250 is a good score

The whole world knew it would rain throughout the Test match.

A child can pick the right team but these pot-bellied big-hats in the management have no clue. Not to mention Azhar the Brainless.

Reminds me of Hussain at the Gabba in 2003 and Ponting at Edgbaston in 2005. It doesn’t matter even if we somehow win this match; most professional outlets would be embarrassed at failing to read small things like this.

But not the PCB. Hope it rots for leaving its fan base so disenchanted.

All I can say is that this must be a great learning experience for Rizwan and am sure that augurs well for Pakistan.

It's the type of mental toughness you see from great captains. He needs to work on his technique and don't get complacent and a good 5 year career awaits.

See there is someone better than Sarfraz. Even if there wasn't you don't just stick with Sarfraz who is finished. It is sport my friend. Players come and go .
