A video showing large quantities of milk being poured into a river has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. According to multiple posts, nearly 11,000 litres of milk were allegedly dumped into the Narmada river.
Many users criticised the act, calling it a harmful practice carried out in the name of faith. Several pointed out that such actions could damage aquatic ecosystems, affecting fish and other organisms by reducing oxygen levels in the water.
Reacting to the video, one user wrote, “In a feat of ‘holy’ plumbing, an 11,000-litre milk tanker was emptied into the Narmada today to give the fish their daily dose of calcium. Local ecologists are reportedly checking the river for signs of curdling, while the fish remain unavailable for comment on their new dairy-based lifestyle.”
