The 99 WC final were a good Pakistan team were bowled out cheaply batting first when this game was meant to be a thriller, a close, hard fought contest.

Then the 2003 WC final, an in form India vs Aus who's batsman were inconsistent. This was also meant to be a close game, a lot of neutrals was expecting a classic here. It was meant to be Tendulkar vs Lee.

What was your thoughts before these two games?

Has to be the 99 one. 2003 as an Indian fan was bitter but that once in generation Aussie team had already taken shape in
Preceding years.
99 one Australian team was not favourite and in fact they had lost a match to Pakistan already.
Talent is an overused word in Pakistan cricket these days but that Pakistan team was actually brimming with some world class talent.
I always wondered how that win would have transformed the Pakistani team in 2000s

The way 2007 ended was bad too - without the crowd in the stands.

The 1996 format was pretty lousy

A bit too simple with the top 8 teams qualifying then the knockout stages

There wasnt the excitement or flair as teams were spread over the subcontinent rather than in one country.

Sri lanka qualified with some walkovers because a couple of teams didnt want to play them in sri lanka citing security risks

A very mundane n low key affair in the end

1999 and 2015 definitely.

I expected Pakistan to win in 1999. It was shocking to see them lose that game. They were favorites.

1999 03 back 2 back duds......07 entire tournament was dud..... 19 was the best followd by 92......96 was too one-sided but everyone was happy for Lanka

2011 was a fantastic World Cup too. Even before the knockouts, the likes of Bangladesh, Ireland, England gave us tons of fun.

2015 was disappointing one for sure. New Zealand played such thrilling brand of cricket and just surrendered without a fight in the final. Final being played in Australia also played a role. South Africa qualifying would've been a much better final as the saffers were a very very good side in that 15 WC

99 was a disappointment too. It was supposed to be a classic but was an one sided affair. But from watching the highlights of the game I wasn't surprised by Pakistan's epic surrender. Australia by the time final came, were a much better side compared to Pakistan. Pakistan facing Mcgrath, Warne & Co in the final had a vulnerable top 6 with Razzak batting at number 3. Pakistan played with 92's formula in 99 and got rightfully butchered.

When it comes to 2003 final, India were just unlucky as they faced an Aussie side which was GOAT contender side. India had beaten every other team convincingly in 03 worldcup, which included 270+ run chase against pakistan within 45 overs, bowling out NZ for 120 odd, Beating England and Sri lanka with big mergin of runs. 03 Indian team I feel was a better side than 2011 India as they performed away from home.

From a neutral perspective, 1999 was a very exciting tournament. That Aus-SA semi final decided who is gonna take forward the next decade as dominant team in world cricket. SA had such a great team but they lost in semis. Pakistan had a great team and reached finals but threw away the game right there.

WC finals have mostly been one sided affairs. I am trying to think of the closest WC Final. 83 and 92 comes to mind

2003 was supposed to be close? Australia weren't even on the same planet as anyone else at the time. That lot were borderline unbeatable. India did well to even get that close, especially in a final.

2019 was the stupidest outcome to a final we'll probably ever see. England can't even really celebrate that shambles.

That's Dhoni special...... That's etched in every cricket fan's mind....India played better than semis too....

in 2003 i always tried to think about what india could have done to win that WC. india butchered every other team except aussies. Just had no answer to them.

but then i realized why we couldnt.

srinath was in his last legs.
kaif is fodder
dravid is average in odi
mongia is fodder
bhaji is average in odi away
yuvi was too young at the time.

australia were just on another level with zero weaknesses in the team in 2003. Just too good in that era.

But I will put 2019 final anyday over 2003

I have watched 92 in repeat telecast....it's super exciting ..... Heard 87 was a bit of anticlimax for Indo Pak fans......and final was tensed affair too...it went to the wire....and some reverse sweep decided the winners......Waugh also played his first WC

2019 final is probably the greatest ODI of all time. neither side won, just that pre tournament rules were stupid.

lool what? excuses? what. did you even read what i said. i said india dint have any answers to austrlaia in 2003. we got smashed by them twice. I stated the reasons why. 5 of our players in that team were just too mediocre to compete with aussies who had no weaknesses.

not like 2019 where we dint even pick our best team and still dominated the league. Only lost in the semis due to a rain affected game without our best batsman in icc tournament and our strike bowler.

2003 wasnt like that. we had pure garbage in bench. that was our best team and we still got spanked by aussies cause they were just better in 2003.

1999 and 2015. 2003 and 2007 were also very one sided but at least Australia racked up big first innings totals so it was at least somewhat entertaining.

In case anyone needs a reminder.

India's WC winning playing XI
Sachin
Shewag
Gambhir
Kohli
Dhoni
Yuvraj
Raina
Harbhajan
Zaheer
Patel
Srishanth.

5 of them were from 03 campaign and all of the 5 played a significant role in winning the worldcup in 2011. 03 India I feel was better as bowling unit with Kumble sitting in the bench and Zaheer Srinath nehra i feel was a better pace bowling lineup then 2011 one. In batting, Top 3 of 2003 was a bit better then 2011 with the latter having a better mid & lower order.

2019 stronger in batting.......2003 alround quality is good

The worst finals were 1999 and 2015. Pathetic capitulation by Pakistan and New Zealand.

2015 final for me, I was there at MCG, traveled all the way from USA , and a record 93,013 crowed but it turned out be the a very disappointing game.
