NBA Playoffs start today!

Anybody watching?

There 4 rounds in the playoffs: 1st round, Conference Semifinals, Conference Finals and The Finals.

There are 16 teams playing. 8 in each conference: Eastern and Western. They are ranked on how they perform during the season, and the higher rankings get home-court advantage. Which means they will get 4 out of 7 games in their series at the home court.

The matchups are:
East:
1. Boston Celtics v.s. 8. Chicago Bulls
2. Cleveland Cavaliers v.s. 7. Indiana Pacers
3. Toronto Raptors v.s. 6. Milwaukee Bucks
4. Washington Wizards v.s. 5. Atlanta Hawks
West:
1. Golden State Warriors v.s. 8. Portland Trail-Blazers
2. San Antonio Spurs v.s. 7. Memphis Grizzlies
3. Houston Rockets v.s. 6. Oklahoma City Thunder
4. Los Angeles Clippers v.s. 5. Utah Jazz

Will anybody dethrone the Cavaliers? Or will Lebron's boys successfully defend their title?

Toronto getting destroyed by Milwaukee in Game 1! :))

I was quite surprised. Raptors are deadly. They should be disappointed if they don't get to the Finals this year.

Lol what a bad game. KLow7 once again showing what a choker he is in the playoffs.

Raps needed to shoot the ball more in the second half.

They won't make the finals. No chance. They have Cavs in round 2 but IMO they won't even make it there. Bucks in 6.

I'm over the moon at the moment because of the Leafs' EPIC victory in double OT against the Caps. :yahoo

Maybe you should make a thread for the NHL playoffs too?

30 point win for the Spurs yesterday. :kohli2

Best game of the playoffs for me!

Do you think the Maple Leafs have a genuine chance this year?

Cavs JUST beat the Pacers - I think that series will be a lot closer than most people think.

Best game of the playoffs for me!

Do you think the Maple Leafs have a genuine chance this year?

Easily - what a game!

I don't think so. Round 2 (if they make it that far; remember, they still need to somehow get 3 more Ws against Washington, and they have only done 25% of the job so far) they'll be up against Pittsburgh/Columbus (most-likely Crosby's men) which will be another mountain to climb. If they make it any further, they'll have to beat one of Ottawa/Boston/Rangers/Canadiens and then possibly Nashville/St.Louis in the Stanley Cup finals.

Very very difficult. Could've been easier if they managed to eke out a win against Columbus last Sunday. Would've beaten Ottawa and ran Habs/Rangers very close. After that anything could've happened.

Honestly, even if they just take it to game 6 against the Caps, it'll be an achievement. Anything beyond that is a bonus. However we now have home-field advantage and winning the series is a great possibility.

So, I think they will at most make it to the 2nd round and then get knocked out from there. And I'll be very proud of that for a team full of rookies. Beating the Caps deserves a cup on its own!

Wasn't today was a couple of days ago. Today we won pretty comfortably. :sarf

Anyways, here are the highlights from that game.

Just saw it!

Looked like a good game but not sure if it was as good as the Maple Leafs game - they won it in double overtime. I believe the 5th longest game in playoff history. It was a open game with both teams having many chances to score but both goaltenders were unbelievable...

I only tune in to Habs game so I'm sure the game you're talking about must've been great. Still the Maple Leafs suck. :ashwin Square Drive

Definitely.

Everyone thought Washington started the game and the series in general as firm favourites but this young Leafs team showed what it's made of.

Holtby is arguably the best goaltender in the game and was fantastic as usual, but Andersen was too clutch and he showed he's a dirty dog. You can't beat him that easily.

Freddie is destined to be a top 10 goalie in a couple year's time.

Looking forward to another W tomorrow!

We'll be waiting. :narine

:))

It was expected tbh. I had Cavs in 5 but with a struggling Lowry it's not surprising to see the Raps lose in 4.

Honestly, I really don't care about the NBA playoffs, at least not nearly as much as I do about the NHL/MLB playoffs. Raptors or whoever, will not get past Cavs/GWS. No matter what you do, the finals will ALWAYS be between Golden State and Cleveland, and it'll remain that way for the next few years.

NHL on the other hand is not as predictable. Great fun to watch regardless of who's playing.

NBA/MLB playoffs, I only watch when Toronto's playing.

I can't watch NHL - puck moves too quickly for me to see lol. Like you said, it's also more unpredictable. I think the Pengiuns will win it though.

MLB is a bit boring in my eyes, until it gets to playoffs.

NBA I find fun. Fast paced and whatnot. Houston vs SA game 5 was a cracker, and Like you said it'll always be Cavs v GSW since they turn up for playoffs. They've sweeped their opponents 4-0 twice lol. However, I like Boston to be more competitive and SA will be a good opponent for GSW but they aren't fast-paced enough to keep up with them. 4-1 finals for both, and GSW will beat Cavs 4-2 in the finals.

Though I only watch Mets' games.

NBA has been boring as hell this playoffs. No competition whatsoever.

Grizzlies v SA was alright but SA vs Houston has been the best series. Washington vs Boston has been fiery too but the games have been blowouts.

Yeah, Spurs-Rockets and Celtics-Wizards are pretty good matchups.

Unfortunate that the Timberwolves did not make it,they had some exciting young talent.

Looks like SA will knock out Harden's men. I'm liking the energy they have atm, despite no Kawhi. Don't think Harden deserves MVP, Westbrook does for carrying OKC to the playoffs and having the most triple doubles in NBA history.

Yeah happy for the Spurs but we got no chance vs the Warriors.

4-1 to the Warriors at best - they are an incredible team.

And they blew it

5 points up, with the ball, 1:25 to play. No words to say.

All games have been won by the home team, so I expect a Boston win. I'm surprised it went to 7 games tbh, didn't think Washington would be this much of a threat to Boston.

I agree - Wizards pushed Celtics well but I expect Boston to close out game 7 comfortably.

Celtics have had a great season - in fact one of their best in almost a decade - so everything moving forward is a bonus IMO.

Btw msb314 how many teams do you call home man? :yk

Definitely Spurs.

My second and third teams would probably be Celtics and Pistons (for sentimental value as I lived in Michigan during college)

What about in the NHL?

Probably Maple Leafs - have an exciting young team and are fun to watch (ticket prices are expensive though - cousin payed $120 for us to watch a regular season game during Thanksgiving! :danish)

Next fave would be Red Wings due to the reasons above.

I would still watch the playoffs anyway regardless of who's playing.

I thought the same thing back in 2012-14 when Heat had Lebron and played OKC/Spurs in the Finals for 3 consecutive years.

In NBA - dynasties fall and crumble much faster than any other sport. Spurs have been fairly consistent for the last decade but the likes of Lakers and Heat and even the Bulls have had the wheels fallen off during the last few years.

Cavs are good now but once Lebron leaves - they will go back to mediocrity. Probably the same for GS once Curry leaves

I see.

Yes agreed, but for now (atleast this season and in the foreseeable future), it's going to be Curry's GSW vs Lebron's Cavs no matter what other teams do.

I think LBJ is regressing from here on out. He'll be 33 by next season and his numbers won't get better. Think by the time he's 35 he won't be used as aggressively as he is atm (38+ mins per game -> 25-30 mins per game) but no doubt he'll still be a threat.
I can't see Curry leaving GSW at all. Fair enough he's from Charlotte but that team is going nowhere atm. If anyone leaves it'll be Klay but I still don't think that'll be a major blow at all. He'll probably be at GSW for a long time and they'll dominate for years to come unless, somehow, you get a team that matches them with 4 All Stars as starters, or 3 amazing ones (I'm talking Kawhi, Westbrook and Aldridge in SA would definitely challenge GSW).

Couldn't agree more about dynasties falling rapidly though msb314. It's crazy to think that Celtics v Lakers was 'the norm' for so many years, then you get the MJ era, then LBJ's Heat v SA. Now GSW v Cavs. I like Boston to be stronger this year. I hear they wanna get Paul George in and if that's the case then they'll look like a very impressive side. Still feel they're an All Star away from competitibg with Cavs even with PG. But a part of me thinks this wage cap/drafting scheme (dunno what you call it) is a good thing in a way in that it's unpredictable who'll win the Championship every 5 years. In football Man Utd have been successful for nearly 30 years consectively but you can't say the same about GSW, for example. Then again it's a bit cruel for fans who'll have an OP squad but players leave since they're a free agent and whatnot. Then again, imagine if there was no cap and having LBJ, Curry, KD, Green and Aldridge as starters :))) yeah I guess that's what the league is afraid of.

Still, NBA is a high paced game on and off the field. Still can never understand the drafting system/wage capping though lol.

Good post.

What I like about Lebron is that he has turned every team he has played for into winners - whether it is Cavs or the Miami Heat or the Cavs again when he rejoined.

I also think Spurs will not be as good as they are once Tony Parker and Ginobli leave or retire. Kwahi and Aldridge are very good but not sure if they can lead the team. Popovic has been a huge factor and a tremendous coach for them - him moving on will also be a big blow.

Definitely. Tim Duncan retiring wasn't as huge a blow because they had Aldridge. Even then though they replaced him with Pau Gasol (then again he's 37). But once Parker leaves they won't have a recognised point guard, and Manu is their 5th man. If it depends on how they'll replace these two if they remain competitive since it will be an end of an era. What I like about Pop is that his bench isn't anything special but everyone in the team has a role. Patty Mills, Dedmon, Simmons, Murray don't make you quiver your boots, but it feels like Pop gets the best out of them.

Game 1 today vs GSW. I expect a 115-104 win for GSW.

Yes Spurs will decline eventually.

And GSW will win 4-2 I think. Spurs will do decent at home - maybe win a game or two but will get blown away at the Oracle Center.

Nah, I think Wizards in 7 now.

Easy win for the Celtics - saw it coming from a mile away despite a good fight by the Wizards.

Still they are not match for the Cavs who will probably clean sweep them lol.

Eastern Conference Finals:
Boston vs Cleveland
Western Conference Finals:
Golden State vs San Antonio

Great last couple of games between the Cavs and Celtics. Might take more than a miracle to beat GSW this time around tho.

If the spurs can somehow sign Chris Paul. If the celtics end up taking Fultz, the spurs should try to push for a Dedmond S&T for Avery Bradley. It won't get them to beat the Warriors but they would be a lot closer and with Pop as your coach, you have a good shot.

Patiently waiting for my Knicks to draft Fox :)

Bro we need 'Melo to either start coming off the bench or trade him entirely. That won't get us to the playoffs, but still, it's good for the future. He's a liability on the defensive end.

Melo is poison. He's not going to make difference for anyone whether pretenders like the Knicks, or contenders like the Celtics or Spurs.

lets see what the NBA championship ticket would cost me.

Don't understand the reason for hatred against Warriors/Curry online.

Should be easy victory for Warriors :)

My lebron will lose :(

People think it'll be close, but I see a sweep or at least a gentleman's sweep (5 games).

Warriors are unstoppable and have the motivation of a lost finals. Plus they have an uber motivated Kevin Durant looking to get that elusive first ring.

Cavs D will get shredded to pieces.

That's true. Cavs have no D. Kyrie, Love and Thompson are all liabilities. LeBron might have to take it easy on offense and become a defensive player for the Finals.

Melo is my favorite player of all time so I may be a bit bias but I believe he is still a superstar in the league and when he wants, he can become a decent defender.

Melo needs someone that will help his game and push him to the next level. However I don't think it's possible now at his age. Melo will only thrive playing the PF position because he lost all his quickness.

The Knicks should find a way to grab Chris Paul but the more likely scenario I see is The Knicks take Frank from France and pair him up with Jrue
Holiday. The Knicks will probably move Melo on draft night and if that happens they may go after Isaac from Florida State. The kid is very impressive.

I have an odd feeling that Thompson will be the reason the Cavs beat the Warriors. His offensive rebounding and size will hurt the Warriors. Not to mention, Lebron will be absolutely ready to dismantle the Warriors. Should be a fantastic series.

KD needs that ring lol.

Never LeBurn.

I can't ever support KD again. He has 0 heart.

Say what you want about Westbrook but he still with his team. He didn't run to the team that beat them in the play offs and a team that won 73 games. Pathetic

True. Can't argue against that.

Westbrook is a legend.

LBJ is probably the best player you'd want in a ChampsFinal. Living legend. I feel like it's going to be a one man army type of series, but GSW just have too much quality. Probably 4-1, 4-2 max. The only way it'll go more games is if all Cavs players play with the same intensity as LBJ.

Neutral, so just want a good series but damn imagine the faces of Curry, KD amd co. if they lose the Finals with 4 All Stars as starters :)))

I don't watch basketball but I went with a friend to the Cavs vs Raptors game here in Toronto and it was a lot of fun
