Look at how quickly this WC has transformed with 3 pitches which offered something to the bowlers providing the 3 best matches of the tournament.

Pattas to appease English batters is the exact opposite of what is needed.

Harder batting pitches give opportunities to weaker teams.

Yup, if I was an icc pitch curator I would troll England by preparing them bowling wickets that offer no support to batsman. That will really make them mad and make England look like the minnows they are. :))

Ideally in any cricket match, you want the outcome to be uncertain for as long possible. Uncertainty produces suspense, drama and tension.

However when one team smacks 400+ on a belter batting first, the 2nd innings just becomes a mission for the chasing team to reduce its losses. The game is killed as a contest.

That's why the ICC curators deserve credit for ensuring a variety of pitches and providing some assistance to bowlers. The much cursed British rain ironically has helped in this regard too !

Yep. Perfectly put. ODIs need more competitive games to stay relevant, which requires sporting pitches. T20s are also popular because they tend to go down to the wire.

You need a variety of pitches . It's great having pitches like India vs Afghanistan, but you don't want this every single time. You do need some pitches which will be run feasts and pitches that will favour bowlers.
