Wanna see Anderson take 3-4 wickets atleast

Everyone is assuming that this will go down like the 2016 series where India would score 700 and then win the match on the last day.

Yeah, that is not happening. They might score big, but they are not winning this match. From this position, only two results are possible: draw or England win.

A mini batting collapse by India cannot be ruled out either. This England attack has more bite than the one they had 5 years ago, and Root is a better captain than Cook.

England continue to bat. Nice strategy to tire out the India bowlers in the first test itself..

I think India are missing a trick, could maybe try short balls at the tailenders and force England to declare rather than injure their bowlers :mw1

Wow.. 20 no balls from India

I guess we are going to see whether Siraj’s physical assault of Kuldeep is part of a wider dressing room split.

There are three options:

1. It was a stupid joke by a halfwit, like Gazza’s japes back in the day.
2. The Indian dressing room is broken.
3. The dressing room is fine, but Siraj is a cancer which needs to be cut out and expelled forever.

Last time they had Moeen Ali, Rashid and Broad. I dont see how current lot are better than them. Plus India now has way better batsmen especially in these conditions.

Archer is the main difference. He has revitalized England’s one dimensional attack.

He has experience of bowling on Indian wickets due to IPL and if he can find some good rhythm, he can be a game-changer for England.

He is a lethal bowler and exactly the type of bowler England have been looking for years.

India need 379 to make sure England bat again and waste more time.

Time for the home track bully to show why he is considered a home track bully of highest order lol :yk

Well done England. Massive score like Ind Pak Bangalore test 2005. India were 6 down in the Bangalore test at end of day 3

Sehwag ... would have been scary on this pitch (memories)

How will India approach this? I suspect first step will be to get to 379 and avoid follow on.

IPL is different from Test cricket and you have to bowl more than four overs. And he didn’t do much in the last series against Windies.
I dont even remember when was the last time a SENA fast bowler had run through Indian batting lineup in India. Nortje is equally fast ( if not more) and he was bludgeoned to all parts of the ground last series.
Also we don’t know Archer has enough stamina to last in hot and humid India.

Good points. Indians would probably be more worried about Anderson than Jofra.

IPL is different but Archer is a very dangerous bowler and England are more potent with him in the team irrespective of the conditions.

If he is in good rhythm he will create problems for any lineup on any surface. He is an incredible talent.

lol keep hoping.

I'm guessing you haven't had too many male friends. Or it's so long back in time, you've forgotten how many times guys grab each other's neck without necessarily being ruffians. The reaction of the people around is key. That should tell you what was going on.

Rohit got to forget about his habit of throwing away his wicket in test cricket.

My point is that he hasn’t demonstrated that consistently. And India is not a place you run through batsmen due to sheer pace. We have plenty of examples in Mitchell Johnson, Nortje, Brett Lee and more.
The only one I remember having success in India due to pace is the one and only Shoaib Akthar. But then he knew how to bowl in these conditions

India going at 6 runs per over...

Even in the 2016 Test where England scored 480 odd in the 1st innings, they had scored at 2.4 and India scored 750 runs at 4 per over. Lets see whether they can keep that up without losing wickets.

This is what mountain of so many runs does to opposition batsmen.

There is more to him than just pace. He is a better bowler than all those that you mentioned above. Ability wise he is in the league of Ambrose/Garner. Terrifying bowler.

Pace increasing and channel getting better...should make most of the next hour till the ball is new

Rohit in any case, has a very lousy technique for test cricket.

Broad may have been a better choice unless Anderson can use reverse swing to an advantage

Archer bowls a few rubbish balls, then comes up with a Jaffa.

Cranking up to 147kph now.

As Sunny is saying Gill never looks hurried while playing his shots.

I think its too early to hype him to the level of legends who were much taller than him. Anyways, we will see how good he is at the end of this series.

Broad would have been much more effective on this pitch than anderson.

Jofras extra pace is proving to do the trick.
His inclusion has made a massive difference

May be to create some rough for Dom Bess on the off side (to the right handers).

Sounds right...

England have started off well here.. Getting both the openers cheaply. One more wicket and England will be on top and in a position to dominate the test match

2 fielders in mid wicket area don't suggest that. That was definitely leg side plan to stifle batsmen. If in the process it creates rough for Bess, it's just bonus.

See forward short leg in now. Clearly leg side plan.

Kid was looking in sumptuous touch before that brain fade, pity he couldn't convert this

Bw nice captaincy from root to stick with archer. The leg side field was set for something like this, bowling relentlessly on the pads and was hoping for a mistake

Broad could have been much more effective in this wicket along with archer

He will hit the deck hard and that would have been effective

I think he needs to cut a few of his shots. Too many shots and he ends up giving a catch to fielder.
