So Sarfaraz Ahmed came in at number 6 with the score on 274/4 from 39.1 overs.

Pakistan needed 100 runs off 65 balls at just over 9 runs an over.

So whilst he was at the crease Sarfaraz faced half of the balls and scored 41 runs, with 2 fours.

Your thoughts on his innings today?

It was fine for what he is capable of.

Needed more from Imad and Faheem.

He did ok and should've done more towards the end he was well set and 17 was needed of 5 balls a top class batsman can get the boundaries needed in that situation.

2 boundaries in 32 balls in the death overs was a pathetic effort. Sarfraz was badly exposed today.

The alarming thing is that this is the best he can do these days, and it was not good enough.

He is a liability who needs to go. Rizwan should replace him for good.

Not sure what the agenda is against Sarfaraz. He is NOT a hitter. Those glorified all rounders should be blamed for the loss.

No one is questioning the proper batsmen Harris and the best Faheem Lance Klusener about the loss?

Yes Sarfaraz should have taken us across the line. England bowled good lengths and he couldn't hit. But isn't that we prepared Imad/Faheem for such situations?

There are bigger culprits than his innings today.

Faheem
Yasir
Haris
Imam
Imad
Sarfaraz

His innings was fine for his capabilities.

What is with the vendetta?!

Where's the vendetta?

The question is being asked, like it is of other players, don't see why some get so touchy about it.

When was the last time you saw Rizwan hit in death overs?

Last time you supported Rizwan and he came in the team you had egg on your face and couldn't show up. He was a failure and dropped multiple times. Now you presenting the same old jeans in new wrapper won't make any difference.

Enough with supporting TTF like Rizwan. He scored hundreds on snail's pace and everyone is talking about it.

I have a bigger problem . . what does Faheem Ashraf do again?

Is he a bowler?
Is he a batsman?

The fact that a player of Faheem Ashraf's caliber is playing for the national side is an absolute disaster!

Simply tells that he isn’t suitable for lower order finishing. Today, should have sticked to his original plan of batting at 5, instead of sending Haris and it could have been totally different. Hari scores like 14 of 18 when asking was touching 9 and Sarf coming at 5 with same intensity could have made the difference.

While it was a very mediocre effort under the situation, it has to be accepted doesnt have the ability to hit big.

Problem lies in the fact that we had 4 accumulators today Imam, Babar, Haris and Sarfaraz, when you play with so many accumulators no matter how you plan batting order one of them is going to have to bat under situation which requires hitting and that is when we have been losing most of the matches. Ideally only two of them should play but even if its 3 in Babar, Haris and Sarfaraz none of them should bat outside top 4-5 otherwise they will struggle more often than not.

100% agreed. Sarafarz is the biggest liability on the team. Followed by Faheem and Yasir

Rizwan did more in one series (vs Aus) than Sarfraz in two years. He is no Buttler but he is comfortably better than Sarfraz.

On bases of 1 series that too on losing cause we bring a TTF. great!!!!!

Agreed. When the question comes to Sarfraz a lot of emotion arises, when the reality is he is one of the 3 culprits from the last year and a half holding back the team.

When was the last time you saw Rizwan hit in death overs?

Rizwan is not much of a power hitter, but he is a useful number 5. Sarfraz doesn’t fit into any role anymore. He is too old and has lost his reflexes.

Exactly.

Open a thread about him and some start jumping up and down as if he isn't allowed to be discussed.

Sarfraz should bat at 5, preferably at four. But Rizwan should be in that team ahead of sarfraz.

Absolutely disgusting and sickening, the lack of heart, desire, passion and intent was just so sad to watch. This is the Pakistan captain, he came out as if he had won the game already and barely tried; was stuck in one gear the entire innings and never looked like he wanted to get us over the line; it looked to me he was playing for himself rather then his country.

I reject his performance and behaviour, I also demand an investigation. If this continues then I fear the WC is already lost.

It is also disappointing to see Inzi and Mickey give him a free ride like this for so long, can any other captain get away with such high level consistent incompetence ?

We had the game won and I blame Sarfraz Ahmed for this defeat, there is no doubt about it.

Sarfraz fans will defend anything. They don’t have any stomach for digesting valid criticism.

That one series was worth more than Sarfraz’s two years of hiding behind Hasan and Amir.

Sarfaraz promoted players who can hit the ball, try to wrap your head around this thought I know its hard but still try.

You keep promoting Rizwan who can't even hit boundaries or sixes, when compared Sarf and Riz you bring the age factor and reflexes. Just because Rizwan hops around the crease to play ball he got better reflexes.. ?? Just stop it.

Sarfraz punched above his weight tbh.

Considering his form since a year or two.

Sarfaraz should have won us the game, yes he couldn't but He is not responsible for the loss as simple is that.
People who supposed to be winning the games aren't winning the games for a long long time. Threads should be about their constant inclusion in the team. May be OP can't criticize Faheem the Klusener in making

Unless Pakistan does really well in WC, I see Sarfaraz not only being stripped of captaincy post WC but also might not have a place in the team especially in T20s as ODIs.

It's not even his batting but it's his on-field personality and aura which is having a negative impact on our bowlers as well, there just doesn't seem to be a plan and that is largely due to Sarfraz having the mind set of a brawler rather then a technician. England even when on the ropes basically out-skilled Pakistan with their strategy but because Sarfraz has a low cricketing IQ he is not capable of adapting, this is why the bowlers also got smashed so badly; they just seemed to run in and bowl, Sarfraz condoned this, but my main concern is this is just his style / approach when it comes to captaincy and batting, there is no lateral thinking or creativity.

He seemed out of touch. He wasn't middling the ball.

But he seemed happy. I guess Pakistan team exceeded his expectations.

I’m not sure what the confusion is. I doubt if I have the energy to explain elementary stuff at this time.

Sarfraz doesn’t fit into the team in any capacity. He can’t hit which is why he hides behind bowlers, yet he doesn’t bat in the middle-order. What role does he serve with the bat?

Rizwan showed against Australia that he can be a prolific middle-order batsman. Do you honestly see Sarfaraz scoring 2 hundreds in 5 games in 2019?

If Imam had scored the same runs off same number of balls, he'd be hailed as the second coming of Lara, Sobers and Saeed Anwar rolled into one...

If Imam had scored the same runs off same number of balls, he'd be hailed as the second coming of Lara, Sobers and Saeed Anwar rolled into one...

Imam was poor too though there is a difference when you come onto bat against the new ball needing 370 off 300 and when you come in needing 100 off 60.

Come off it guys...!
Cue in all the haters.
As someone pointed it out, the hitters failed...not him.
He kept us in the game...admittedly his game is limited.
Its almost childish to argue the point.
So I wont...

Sarfaraz can't hit. Pakistan just does not have a Lance Klusenar or Abdul Razzaq to add the finishing blows. Have seen enough of Imad and Faheem, they are not the guys for the job.

Imam was poor too though there is a difference when you come onto bat against the new ball needing 370 off 300 and when you come in needing 100 off 60.

Yes there is a difference, it is a lot easier to score when the field is up, bowler aren't trying to bowl to contain. If you are a proper opener and not somebody's nephew it is the best opportunity to score.

Where's the vendetta?

The question is being asked, like it is of other players, don't see why some get so touchy about it.

Come on Saj. Is his innings really one of the talking points from today? Sarfraz has never been a hitter, we all know that.

Be honest: was Sarfaraz really the cause of today's loss? Or was it the failure of golden boys Imad and Faheem (who seem incapable of scoring runs when they actually matter)?

Where's the vendetta?

The question is being asked, like it is of other players, don't see why some get so touchy about it.

Sarfraz played his role- which is to occupy one end and score at a reasonable SR. Imad, Faheem are supposed to be the hitters.

Sarfraz is not 6-hitter, he should've got a boundary or two in the last 2 overs, but England bowled really well.

Reasonable innings today, if you expect him to bat like Butler, then your expectations are off

I dont think anybody expected sixers galore from him or brute power But surely he shouldve got the extra 10-12 runs needed today to win the game Too often he played and missed or just didnt time/ place the ball in the gap

The players at the other end got the 50 off 30 balls Sarfraz didnt

Sarfraz brought it close after Asif departed. He scored 11 off 5 balls in the 47th over. Then Imad scored a six to bring it down to 31 off 18 balls.

We should've won it in the end. Our power hitting was a collective failure and it's not just down to one person.

Where's the vendetta?

The question is being asked, like it is of other players, don't see why some get so touchy about it.

Saj just wrote in the other thread that the captain was playing a test knock. Regardless of what you can say about his hitting ability. This was not a test knock by any stretch. He was doing what he usually does as a batsman. Getting the odd boundary and scoring singles and doubles.

What was the point of those 100s when they are coming at a scoring rate of less than a 100. The total was chased down in less than 46 overs for the loss of two wickets by Australia. It was a cake walk that was set up by Riz's slow batting

What is the point of a second 100 when you can't take the team home?

The end result was the same. I get it you are looking at the stats but a 100 or a 40 odd doesnt mean much these days if it's not for a winning cause.

Plus Rizwan the batsman will never fit in a lineup that already has 3 other accumulators playing.

Nor is he a big upgrade on power hitting.

Sarfraz fans were calling Rizwan selfish for a similar innings. But this innings is called a gem by some of his loyal fans. 2 boundaries in 32 balls is pathetic but he isn't capable of anything more.

We always make comparisons with India. But England have been a rubbish LO team till Morgan became captain. We were ahead of them until he took over. But now they are miles ahead of us. To sum up how far ahead they are, just look at England's keeper and look at our keeper. Buttler is outstanding keeper but more importantly a brilliant batter who can adjust his game to the situation. We make excuses for Sarfraz like 40 off 32 is good enough. Absolutely pathetic. I despise the fans of this average cricketer. What does Sarfraz do that gets so much support? People like Hasan Ali and Fakhar are actual contributors but get hate that is disgusting.

This innings wasn't good enough but it is all that he is capable of so I won't go too much in on the specialist captain.

If someone was expecting to play him like Jos Buttler or win us from that position, he is fooling himself.

He ain't a finisher can't do that, he is a middle order batsman who can milk the spinners.

Today Sarfraz should have came out to bat in place of Haris. His run a ball type batting would’ve be ok for that situation.

But in the end he came out to bat in the 40th over which was way too late for batsmen like him. At that moment Imad would’ve been perfect because he’s an aggressor and he takes a few balls to get going so he could’ve taken a few balls to get in if he needed to aswell.

But Rizwan isn't Buttler but you called him selfish despite him showing intent to win against Australia. Your precious Sarfraz gets a pass for playing a similar innings.

why are we blaming the batsmen when England scored 373?
Yasir is to be blamed, as well as those who selected him in the odi squad and picked him for this game.

We don't need similar kind of players, Sarfraz is our captain and gets that pass. It's best we use him in the middle overs where he is better than Rizwan.

Mohammad Rizwan if wants to play should bat like some finisher, otherwise he ain't better than anyone in the top/middle order and is useless for our team.

We can't play both of them, and BTW I never called him selfish.

Rizwan is capable scoring centuries as we have seen so don't act as though the difference is major between the 2.

Why should Rizwan bat as a finisher when he doesn't have the capability? Your hero should he batting in a role that suits him but Rizwan has to adjust his game when he has done something Sarfraz hasn't for 3 years .

You didn't call him selfish but other people who support Sarfraz called Rizwan selfish which wasnt the case. Absolutely disgusting hypocrisy from those individuals.

I'm sorry for attacking you. You see to be a normal Sarfraz fan. I don't think Sarfraz innings today was selfish but showed his lack of ability to hit big. Our lack of hitting ability at the back end is extremely frustrating.

It wasn't an ideal knock, but you can't expect much from him in these situations. The only thing perhaps that could have been done differently was to send Imad earlier ahead of him, but he has also been copping flak for hiding down the order. Or he could have come earlier himself rather than Haris and kept the score ticking alongside Asif - Haris' innings resulted in quite a bit of lost momentum.

If you need 100 off 10 overs, you don't really ever want Sarfaraz at the crease.

He's simply not capable of playing a quick innings, which is why he needs to come at 4 or 5.

The alarming thing is that this is the best he can do these days, and it was not good enough.

I was even more concerned with how ugly Haris batted today when the pressure was on for quick runs.

For me Asif Ali should have won us the game. He was well set.

His current role is that of a #5 batsman, and he did that well today. Asif only got promoted because the situation demanded for that, but unfortunately he couldn't last a bit longer, otherwise we would've been in a much better position.

Onus is on Asif (who can't be faulted for today), Imad, & Faheem to finish things off, and the latter two didn't do their job today.

For #4 or #5, Rizwan is definitely a better option than Sarfraz, but Sarfraz is obviously not going anywhere and for a #5 bat, he actually did well today. When it comes to hitting, as much as I love Rizwan and even prefer him over Sarfraz, he would've done just as bad, if not worse.

Safraz's form has been an issue but if he plays like he did today at #5, he is fine. Blame for today goes to Imad and Faheem. And obviously Yasir (alongside Faheem, again) with the ball.

We have no alternative WK who could've won it for us, and Sarfraz coming any higher/lower did not make sense. So let's sit down and stop blaming him for his batting today.

Asif Ali actually punched above his weight today. This is probably the best he ever play at this level. Haris and to an extent Babar were disappointing. They need to do more in situations like these and take charge of the proceedings.

Yep every player has a role in the team which is based on their ability. Sarfraz is not a hitter and we should stop blaming him for failing to strike big.

By the way Rizwan is also an accumulator and would have failed today.

Based on current resources Hafeez can strike better in the end overs. I think Pakistan might want to play an extra batsman and drop the useless Faheem. So Hafeez and Haris can jointly fill in the fifth bowler spot.

Bad innings. He should have come ahead of Asif Ali. The decisions by the team have been horrible. This batting order will not win you games. Thanks to Fakhar and Asif we put up a decent showing but lower order was terrible. Sarfraz is looking out of sorts.

The problem is that Sarfraz doesn't fit into any capacity anymore. If he is not a hitter, he should be batting in the middle-order instead of hiding behind tail-enders.

His batting peak was 2014 to 2016. In 2016, he played very well at 5 and that is where he should have continued to bat after becoming the captain instead of hiding. After two years of not doing anything of note, he has suddenly realised that he needs to bat at 4 or 5 in the World Cup, which is absurd and shows how shambolic our planning has been.

If he intendeds to bat at 4 or 5 in the World Cup, he should have batted there at least 12 months ago to develop some sort of team combination. He is past his prime as a batsman and cannot even punish spinners anymore like he used. He huffs and puffs after 30 odd balls and is certainly not fit at batting in the middle-order at this point, or at any position for that matter.

He simply has to go after the World Cup, and we will have to continue to hide him from now till the end of the tournament, whenever our journey ends.

Which one of the Akmal brothers can we bring him
Sarfraz like Amla does not fit into modern odi cricket

It’s almost as bad as expecting Yasir Shah to start firing on all cyclinders because he can bowl a flipper in odi

Asif Ali actually punched above his weight today. This is probably the best he ever play at this level. Haris and to an extent Babar were disappointing. They need to do more in situations like these and take charge of the proceedings.

Actually he was dropped. A couple of mishits as well. He wont be this lucky in every game. None of the batsmen were chanceless.

It was fine for what he is capable of.

Needed more from Imad and Faheem.

What are you expecting from those two? They a bowlers who can slog a bit, they are not batsmen or allrounders of any description.

Sarfraz himself is not a batsman, he would make a useful no 7 in the Pakistan sides of old. You need more quality in the top 5 batsmen, then you will see wins coming.

It was a painful defeat but its all good for some people as long as Kaptaan Sahab isn't given a look of reproach even for valid reasons!Obviously everyone else is always at fault but never him!

It was perfect what he did given his limitations. We just needed small cameos from Imad and faheem. 30 off 18 between them but they got 10 off 8

In era of T20, that's criminal, inexcusable.

Not a lot. Just A quick fire 15 each was needed.

Both are limited, but your hate is only being directed towards Sarf.

Imad and Faheem are to be blamed.

Sarf didn't play an ideal knock, but not a bad one.

What kind of preparation and planning we did for the WC when we ended with such a poor batsman/keeper leading the team. Alas , no accountability in Pakistan, everyone gets away with a murder.

Not going to blame Sarfraz here. We have people moaning when he doesn't come further up the order and we have them moaning when he comes further down the order. We all know he's not a big hitter so why the surprise?

Besides I thought what was the turning point was Haris Sohail's innings and subsequent dismissal, which was a shocking shot, as was Imam/Faheem Ashraf shots.

Ashraf is a mediocre player, absolutely trash. To be called an all-rounder is a disgrace.

Asif (minus this match), Sarfaraz the batsman and Faheem are proving to be massive liabilities with the bat. What the hell is Yasir shah doing in LOIs?

Everyone is going about It as if imam Babar and Harris had set the stage for sarfraz and sarfraz ruined it.

Why isn't anyone questioning babars snail pace 50? How many boundaries were hit?

What did imam or harris do?

The top 4 should have finished the game on this sort of pitch

When will Pakistan get our wicketkeeper champion

India had dhoni
Sl had sanga
England have had quite a few
SA had ABD
Australia had Gilchrist

We have Sarfaraz as our representative :)))

It was the type of innings he needs to come and play from 25ish overs to 40 overs and set the platform for others

Why is everyone shocked? This is the best Sarfraz can manage. The real culprits were bowlers, Haris, Imad, and Faheem.
