Burning tons of wood to curb pollution.

MEERUT: As the nine-day Hindu festival of Navratri began Sunday, a group in Meerut started a ritual or "mahayagya" to curb pollution. But that they plan to burn 50,000 kg of wood for it stoked concerns whether the initiative would really serve its purpose.

While rising air pollution has emerged as a prime concern in major Indian cities, Shri Ayutchandi Mahayagya Samiti is trying to contribute its bit by burning 500 quintals or 50,000 kg of mango tree wood as a part of the "mahayagya", news agency ANI reported. Yagya, a vedic ritual, literally means selfless sacrifice for noble purpose. Mango tree wood is often used in the ritual.

Over 350 brahmins from Varanasi are reportedly participating in the nine-day long ritual at the Bhaisali ground of Merrut.

If you are a large nation doesnt mean the residents have any lesser rights than residents of other nations.

USA has per capita CO2 emission at 15.5 ton. India has 1.92. We should be polluting more given that our carbon footprint is so less.

South already has lots of population and lot of people willing to work as laborers. We do not need more flooding from North and their unskilled people.

I will always welcome educated folks who can afford to live good life in all of cities in South.

demographics are going to change completely by 2050
fertility rate is coming down fast in south india.forget big cities i have seen even in small towns their number is small now but soon its going to be flood like big cities mind you these are no IT proffesionals most of them are construction workers from up/bihar they cost much cheaper then local workers.nowadays there are lot of food chains like kathi rolls/kulfi run by up/bihari people nothing wrong with food chains would never imagined this stuff in small towns apart from those generation old mawaris who run bussiness in every town in india

You don't know anyone with more than 2 kids in your circle, fair enough. Although I don't agree with them having only 2 kids. All educated and resourceful people should have as many kids as possible, and the poor and destitute should be neutered so that we get quality population. It is a waste of education and knowledge if you pass it only to 1 or 2 kids. Disservice to humanity.

I agree with you in controlling immigration, even if it is within the country. Demography should be preserved. Those who ignore the demography bomb are going to become minority in their own lands.
