Am I the only one who has zero sympathy about this? What else is supposed to happen when you stand on railway tracks?

And 5L to each kin, all from the taxpayer's wallet obviously.

The number is going to rise as they were busy watching Ravan getting burned and did not hear the train coming through.

Over 200 are now reported injured.

Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife was present there but left as soon as this horrible incident happened. Some people have already started asking for Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation.

She was the chief guest at this gathering, apparently.

Class-A tinpots who go and listen to the Sidhu clan while being perched on railway tracks.

That's a terrible way to think about it. Someone could be commiting suicide but you should still feel bad for them and their family. Even kids were killed who were just celebrating Dushera.

Whoever organized this is culpable for mass murder. This is absolutely ridiculous. It's idiotic of people to stand on railway tracks but people are idiots. That is something the organizers should've thought about.

RIP. What an unfortunate and preventable incident though.

That video is horrific. Was the train driver asleep at the wheel. How did he not spot them from a distance

It's not the Railways' fault AT ALL. The cover of darkness didn't help matters I'm sure.

He would have spotted the crowd with 10-15 seconds to go and panicked, and all he could do was hoot - which he did. Prior to this, he would have seen a series of green signals and naturally assumed full speed ahead. It's what he does everyday of course.

It takes time to stop an express train - a full two minutes from top speed to grind to a halt.

Mainu smjh ni aareha ..keho ji tuhade loka di thinking hi.
.you guys are blaming people standing over there on track and watching burning of raavan? Seriously.

First of all it was illegal to organize dushera at that ground . Its responsibility of government who let this festival organized there and then may be railways who were not intimitated about the gatherings and all.

Sad, RIP.

Maybe India needs to introduce laws against standing on railway lines? In the UK you will be fined for stepping on a railway line.

No normal human will ever wish for innocents to die. Some sick comments on this thread. Ashamed to see them.

Rest in peace to the victims.

What a terrible news.

Can't people how dumb these people are celebrating a religious event on an active train track. They're asking for trouble doing such things.

keep blaming the govt. govt can not make laws to prevent stupidity. the dead deserve respect, but they are responsible for their own deaths, not the govt. such tragedies will continue to happen as long as indians show no concern for basic safety.

I think that's very harsh and unfair, i was equally shocked as to what really were they thinking standing on rail tracks but you have to understand these things are quite common in our society and mentality takes ages to change. Of course train driver can't be blamed at all but it's failure of government and administration more than anything. How can they allow people together at such a location where there is so much of a risk. It just didn't happen in seconds, they may have been there for hours?
Shocking how in our part of the world minor stupidity can result in such a massive tragedy.

RIP for the dead.

Guys - no need to blame the dead for dying! No one would wish it upon their fellow human being.

Poor, devoted people in a horrible accident.

I have seen the video, it’s a horrific as it happens so quick so they had no chance to escape.

RIP to the victims.
