A day that will haunt Pakistan cricket

Younis Khan’s comments on the mic today - “our theory is you can’t have two of the same kinds of players playing at once. Rizwan is playing the anchor role and Haider is sent with instructions to play aggressively”

Unless he goes back on those words, I don’t see Rizwan and Babar both being sent in to open.

So that means if babar stays at the wicket rizwan shouldnt come in unless babar gets out

He cannot bowl under pressure.

You have to be brave to mention Shaheen in a negative way on this forum. For 95% of the posters here he is already the finished article. Whilst he is well on his way to becoming the best bowler in the world (Bumrah, Archer, Rabada, Cummins, Boult all declining soon due to age factor), he is miles of this league of bowlers that I just mentioned.

Bumrah, Archer, Rabada and Cummins are all poor bowlers. Hella overrated.

Shaheen is a good young bowler, but he is not perfect. He has to work on his line and length consistency and his bouncers especially.

I would rank him maybe Top 10 in the world. Guys like Starc, Boult, Hasan, Woakes and Hazelwood are better at the moment.

To be honest, we are building our teams around Babar. This is a wonderful opportunity for many players to raise hands and show they are cut off for international level. Now the skills do not matter much it is the mental strength that will differentiate the better ones from the rest. We all have our biases and most of the fans like talented players and understandably so but majority of the times in Pakistan's case the hardworking players tend to outperform the talented players.
What is going to haunt Pakistan cricket is not Rizwan or Faheem or Iftikhar performing. It is the failure of talented players who never fulfil their potential just like Umar Akmal and company. I am worried about Haider and Khushdil because if they both fulfil their potential they can play competitive T20 cricket for Pakistan. Haider has potential in all formats but it has to be seen if he understands that hardwork and mental strength is required at international level.
Lastly, I am not gonna talk about the skill levels of our players with other teams because it does not matter. Our job is to pick the best players at different positions and if Rizwan is the best for wicket keeping for now he has to be given confidence to improve further on low bounce wickets. However, Rizwan can be a wonderful ODI and test player and has the potential to outperform many teams keepers barring De Kock if he opens the batting in ODI's.

If they don't use these performances and get people into the ODI and Test teams, I am okay. I really don't care about bilateral T20Is.

I have little hope though, Faheem is already in the test squad.

Pakistan - the only team who thinks about anchors in T20Is.

Ridiculous.

9 were out in the first t20 and if it wasn't for Hafeez's inning in the 2nd, we could've been all out. Reality is we are prone to collapses and one of the few teams that needs an anchor at the top
