Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu suggested that cricket matches be played between the winning teams of the Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League.

"Cricket takes us to a whole new level," Sidhu said before leaving for Lahore after attending Prime Minister Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony in Islamabad. "A match between the winning team of the IPL and PSL is a good idea."

He went on to say that cricket can bring Pakistan and India together.

Sidhu added that he will remember this trip to Pakistan for the rest of his life. He called the trip a "new beginning".

"I hope I have laid the foundations and someone will work on it," the former cricketer said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had invited Sidhu to his oath-taking ceremony, which took place on Saturday. The Indian cricket presented a shawl to the new premier.

Sidhu also interacted with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during the function.

Indian media did not take the gesture very well and lambasted Sidhu for attending the ceremony.

This is not going to happen in the near future. It is a great idea though. The Champions League was a good idea but it just did not work out.

India Vs Pakistan bitter feelings probably will never end.I just hate the last line of this report.

Navjot Singh Sidhu suggests cricket series between IPL and PSL Champions

Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has suggested a way to somewhat resume cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. In a video, in which Sidhu is seen conversing with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senator Faisal Javed, he suggested a three-match series between the winners of Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“Cricket takes us to a whole new level,” Sidhu said before leaving for Lahore after attending Prime Minister Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony in Islamabad. “A match between the winning team of the IPL and PSL is a good idea.”

Dean Jones, who is the coach of reigning PSL champions Islamabad United, supported Sidhu’s idea and said that his team is ready for the challenge.

The former cricketer attended the oath-taking ceremony of Pakistan’s Prime Minister-elect Imran Khan in Islamabad. Imran Khan, Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup winning captain, secured the most seats in the recently-held Pakistan general elections. Along with Sidhu, he extended invitations to former Indian captains Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.

However, Gavaskar and Kapil turned down the invitations owing to the volatile relationship between the two countries.

Sidhu was slapped with a sedition case on Monday by a lawyer in Bihar for insulting the Indian Army after he hugged Pakistan’s army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa at the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as Pakistan’s prime minister.

Sidhu, facing criticism for hugging Pakistan’s army chief, said on Tuesday the gesture was made in an “emotional moment” and that his trip was not politically motivated.

Unfortunately the people in power do not agree with him so it;s nothing more than just an opinion from an ex cricketer.

Time to move on from this topic now.

Lol who wants to see this Tamasha cricket. Lets have a test series between two nations which we all are craving for.

Also, what Siddhu says should be taken with a pinch of salt.

What about a high profile First-Class game between the winners of the QEA Trophy and the winners of the Ranji Trophy?

Although this would be fun, why not just strive to have Pak v Ind series.
That's so much better, and would take the same amount of work

Sidhu's idea is a no-win situation for IPL.

If the IPL team wins, everybody will say "Of course it should win, they have the top players because they pay them ten times more". No improvement in IPL's reputation.

If the IPL team loses... huge loss to IPL's reputation!

Not everything is done for reputations.

People to people exchanges is a must between the two, formerly single, nations in all fields, even if governments retain hostile postures at centre.

Great idea.

If its a new idea hopefully for a new era of cricket ties.

Or perhaps a Sidhu XI v Khan XI

I applaud your sentiments and agree about the value of people to people exchanges. However IPL is now run as a "big business", and "big business" is terribly concerned about its image so will not want to do anything to lower its reputation.

Good idea. I support both franchises but I would back IU to win. Bring it on.

Why a Pyjama League match? Why can't we have a proper India vs Pakistan series? Are we afraid of losing to Pakistan?

Cringeworthy idea by a cringeworthy man. Whatever he says these days should not be taken seriously.

Pyjama league IPL gave us a premier bowler Bumrah and an okayish (as of now) all-rounder Pandya. What say about it?

Though I dont agree with most stuffs Bhaag Viru poster says but he is right here. If we have to play in a much awaited series vs Pakistan, why franchise cricket?? Give me a red ball test series anyday.

Also we keep on playing ODIs/T20s against Pak almost every year. But its the test cricket we fans are missing.

Think domestic competitions should remain within their confines and not be expanded beyond their intentions. We already have international cricket for bilateral or multilateral ties, if both sides (to clarify, Pakistan and India) don't want to resume their cricketing rivalry then I disagree that any other form of the game will help either.

I don't think CSK vs PSL Champion makes sense. No context whatsoever it will draw audience purely because of lack of Indo-Pak ties and be viewed in that context.

So nah. I'd love for ties to resume though. A 4 test series with Pak touring India or India going to UAE will be fun to watch.
