India has announced its squad for the tournament, and expectations are high with a lineup packed with experienced players. (India Today)

A squad comprising of a T20 World Cup winner, a player with "golden arm", a guy termed by some "Bangladesh Tiger slayer" and other experienced players featured for India in a renowned short tournament that resumed after 6 years. But what was the performance of this experienced squad.

*A thumping loss against arch rivals, Pakistan
* A comprehensive defeat against New Zealand
* A defeat at hands of England (Also in the same match Ravi Bopara hit 6 sixes in an over)
* A loss against minnows like UAE

So was it the right decision to send a team for the marquee entertainment event returning after 6 years or would India have followed the suit of Afghanistan and West Indies by not sending their team to the tournament unprepared?

In Hind sight it appears just to divert attention from the underperforming Indian national side.

Yeah bro because Hong Kong Sixes with Chipli smashing PSL bowlers is what will be a diversion from national side performance.

Wonder if BCCI made the decision after losing second test if we are to think of OP lol

Explained: Why are India playing despite being knocked out of Hong Kong Super Sixes

format - The Plate and Bowl competition

The 12 teams, including hosts Hong Kong, playing in the six-a-side competition between November 1-November 3, have been divided into four groups. The top two sides from each group will enter the quarterfinals, while the third-placed sides will head to the 'Bowl' competition of the tournament.

The loser of the quarterfinals will compete in the ‘plate’ tournament, consisting of two semi-finals and a final, while the remaining four teams will compete for the main title.
A third-placed sides will head to the 'Bowl' competition of the tournament.

The loser of the quarterfinals will compete in the ‘plate’ tournament, consisting of two semi-finals and a final, while the remaining four teams will compete for the main title.

After playing six ‘Bowl’ fixtures where each of the four teams face each other once, the top two third-placed sides will play in the ‘Bowl’ final on November 3, while the winners of the two semi-finals from the main competition will be gunning for the trophy later that day.

Having finished last in Group C, India have New Zealand, England and Oman as their competitors in the ‘Bowl’ competition. They faced an early setback in the lower tier of the event as well after a loss to England today. Ravi Bopara’s 14-ball 53, containing six sixes in an over took England to 120-1. India managed 105-3 in response, with Bopara again shining with 2-11.

Just saw the history of the tournament- Pak, SA, Eng have won the tournament 5 times each lol maybe this is real cricket where Aus and India have won once :yk
Good way to undermine a tournament, I know it must be bad when binny hits 5 consecutive sixes in last over just to bottle 2 runs off last ball against UAE..lol

Lol... I mean just showing them there are even worst Indian sides out there and they should be thankful
You are saying Indian fans are diverted from what's happening to the Test side because of this tournament ?

They probably thought they could send in anyone and win it. Overconfidence? Arrogance?

A tournament to forget for India: How did the Indian team led by Robin Uthappa perform at the Hong Kong Six Sixes 2024?

When the thrilling Hong Kong Six Sixes tournament made an exciting return for the first time since 2017, India was among one of the countries that sent its teams for the 12-team competition.

The Indian team sent a squad consisting of Robin Uthappa as skipper, followed by Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Stuart Binny, Shreevats Goswami, Bharat Chipli, and Shahbaz Nadeem.

While the team looked incredibly weak on paper, they would have been given a decent chance of at least qualifying for the knockouts. However, their performance ended up being even more disappointing for the fans.

A tournament that has 6 over long match mostly played by retired players in ultra small ground don't have to be taken seriously. But it has some history though. INitially it had some interest due to sixes fours being hit. But after T20 it lost its charm as it is overly batting friendly contest.

Yep initially very big names like Brian Lara, Stephen Flemings etc used to feature in it. Even Pakistan and India have sent comparatively known players as compared to others.

I think this tournament is good for local audience. It's fun and cozy to watch these games that only take an hour long. I saw the crowd enjoying the atmosphere very much.

But for tv commercial point of view I would not even consider this a proper sport. They need to inject more seriousness and competitiveness in it to make it for serious for viewers at home.

Indians have short memories. They said the same about T20, ridiculed it, the CL was a flop, and the rest is history.

This tournament serves no purpose for anyone , win or loss doesn;t matter.

How can India lose to UAE? LOL.

Even Bangladesh beat UAE. Pakistan completely crushed UAE.
They literally followed the Hardik Pandya statement that India can win any tournament with B or C team and result is before everyone.

Tournament is just like the apartment building outside the ground.once a novel approach to accommodate new gen of fans.

The standard of this HK sixes is rubbish

The one played with Warner, Maxwell, Imran Nazir was probably the best ever one.
Asif Ali
Akhlaq
Aamir Yamin

These three should be in the T20 set up. They are all good ball strikers. Yamin doesn’t have to bowl. He’s a better T20 hitter than both Babar and Rizwan

I believe that's the 2010 one.

Australia and Pakistan went to final. Aussies needed 36 runs from 6 balls. Aussies ended up winning it (bowler gave away extras).

2024 edition doesn't seem to have too many stars/promising youngsters.

The six that Pakistan sent,

Just add 5 more to this lot and it will be a stronger side than the one that went to the World Cup.

Add Imad, Amir, Shaheen, Azam and Usman Khan

Swap Talat with Fakhar

All good to go.

OK so Aamir yamin is also better than many out there. Make Asif Ali captain

Sharjeel
Fakhar
Asif
Akhlaq
Faheem
AAmer Yamin
Danish Aziz
Shahab
Haider

What a team this is.

Suppose it was the smarter thing to do. Than sending Test players like Faheem Ashraf and getting knocked out in the final anyway

Yes this was a big humiliation for Pakistan that some Sri Lankan fishermen beat us in the final.

Taking the India route and giving some Uncles a retirement holiday would have been better than this outcome.

I almost broke my TV in disgust but alhumdulilah the performance of the Indian Test team kept my TV intact.

That is very odd that they could not even win a single game here... Should have won at least oman or uae one.

Indian represented teams in cricket lost 7 games in the space of 3 days (November 1st to November 3rd)

Test Series:
India lost to New Zealand

Hong Kong Sixes:
India lost to Pakistan
India lost to UAE
India lost to England
India lost to New Zealand
India lost to Oman

A Series:
India A lost to Australia A

Bad week for India it seems

Why you guys are taking this crap tournament so seriously?? It does not even deserves a mention.

We should have sent Sir Jay Shah for this tournament. :inti

To be fair, pretty meaningless tournament or format. I didn't know what it was till I saw 100+ runs are easily chased in 6 overs.
