So I came across the article that 5 Afghan player's for the first time are being introduced into the IPL auction with most of them starting at the base price of 50 lakh. , undoubtedly the most watched for player would be the wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Shehzad.

" The others are, batsman Asghar Stanikzhai, pacer Dawlat Zadran, all-rounder Mohammed Nabi and bowler Rashid Khan Arman. The sixth associate nation cricketer is India born Chirag Suri of United Arab Emirates"

I'm sure the Afghan fans would look forward to this - and IPL fan's would like to see some fresh faces as well !

rashid khan is quality and should find a team.

not sure about anyone else but would be glad if all five of them find some teams.

Rashid Khan, Shehzad and Nabi will be taken me thinks.

Zadran's will find it hard. A lot of similar kind of bowlers in domestic.

At worse, Shehzad and Nabi will find a team. 50 Lakhs for playing 2 months is still a lot of money.

People are forgetting teams often pick players based on brand instead of actual quality.

Nabi,Shahzad,Rashid Khan all deserve sports, some may get them, but we'll have to wait and see.

Stanikzai and Dawlat no chance.

I think Afghan player's unpredictability to their game which will be exciting to watch - they play fearless and IPL thrives on that. They would definitely be tested and I think regardless of how they perform , sharing the dressing room with international stars would be an amazing learning experience for them ! Someone like Shehzad or Zadran playing under Dhoni would be brilliant !

Hard chance of Afghan players to make it in. The limitation of 4 foreign players is a big impediment.
Teams with history of erratic drafts might pick them: Delhi, Pune or Punjab. But very low chance.

Rashid Khan is the 5th ranked T20I bowler in the world. Other than him, no one would get a contract. Next year is a whole different ballgame when teams have to release all players.

Nabi should get a team idk why he isnt in PSL he was very good last time in PSL 1

Ryan Ten Deschote of NED used to play for KKR. This is nothing new but good for AFG players if they get picked by few clubs.

Shehzad, Rashid, Nabi were vital players in BPL too, perhaps what helped the most was that the conditions suited them.

Honestly, these 3 are much better players than a lot of substandard domestic cricketers from foreign countries. Someone said brand-name matters, but lets be honest, the truth is that IPL is dominated by a lot of Australian/SA/English coaches hence we see their domestic players sneaking in. Surely, Rashid, Nabi, Shehzad are more than just "well known". Australia despite all their quality players won as many game in the 2016 WT20 as Afghanistan(in the main round, discounting preliminaries)

There is a good chance because saffer/english players ll not be there after mid may which would be a big loss ib terms of saffers. If clubs are smart they would get Nabi.

There are playera from Uae as well iirc.Tahir ll be star attraction coz he wont be in saffer test team hopefully.

I hope we get to see some of them in the IPL matches. Will be awesome. They have a base in Greater Noida (near Delhi) now, talent scouts from teams like Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, Kings 11 Punjab must have kept a watch.

Rabada is there too dont think he ll make it as saffers have to go midway.

Yes :( Still feel bad that no team ever picked Kevin O'Brien whereas players not even 50% of KOB were picked in IPL. Still KOB played CPL and showed his quality there. Hoping to see him picked next year

There is 1 more player from Associates in the auctions. Netherlands batsman Tom Cooper whom the IPL organisers have listed as Australian :(

I think nabi ( 4th on list of best all rounders) and rashid khan ( 5th best t20 bowler) as well as Mohhamad shehzad ( ranked 7 in t20) will get picked.

nabi got 50 lakhs last year in PSL for 3 weaks, so how it is enough for 2 months?:misbah

I don't know how much people get paid in PSL. 50 Lakhs is still a lot of money in Subcontinent.

Imagine if he performs well and next year, he gets a 5 crore offer.

Don't think any of them will be picked, because I simply think the IPL team goes for SA/AUS/ENG players because the couches know those players. Otherwise I think Rashid, Nabi and Shahzad could add some real value to IPL, because they know asian conditions as well.

Nabi has been picked for 50 K $. A bit less for his caliber but if he performs well maybe for next season he will have is base cap increased in mega auction.

Rashid Khan gets picked for 0.6 million USD.

Glad that Afghani players are getting some recognition

Happy to see this, but what was so special about Rashid Khan? Never heard of him before.

Have never seen him play but it's a great story - a teenager from Afghanistan being paid $600k for 6 weeks of cricket, the stuff of dreams.

I will be keen to see how he does in IPL where he will face world class players. He's been really dominating associate cricket and one of main reason Afghanistan been winning consistently.

He was thought smashed for 29 by AB in WC 1 over.

That's the only time anyone got the better of him.

He is not only limited overs cricketer. Against a strong England Lion team he took 122/12 on debut. Only FC game he played so far.

Ok, thanks. Let's see how he performs here, looking forward to it.

If Afghans perform well this season next year with everyone in the pool and 2 extra teams there can be more Afghans and higher income.

10 team IPL, I don't know how that will really work. The one time they tried it fizzled out bad!

I actually like it,so many teams just get support because they have a player from their state. Rajasthan and Chennai defn deserve their teams and clearly Gujarat does as well,Pune surprised me,they were pretty bad during Roy's era but last year there was good support.

Ideally in next decade there should be 16 with 8 in each group.

It will work out fine. Long term goals of IPL is many more teams not just 10. It fizzled out last time because of dubious owners like Sahara and Shashi Tharoor.

Time is a big constraint bro! You don't have 10 months like football leagues and you would still be constrained by broadcasters, you won't have simultaneous games like in EPL.

Do you remember how it was? Two indirect groups ,where one set plays each other twice and from others they play only once.

Probably that's how it will be done, obviously every team won't play each other twice.

I know they tried a weird variation of the NBA conference system. It was bad. NBA system has some sense in the way that the conferences remain separate till the grand finals.

NBA has way too many teams according to locations, can't be compared to IPL considering there would be only lol 10 teams.

Even in current system the all teams play each other. Are you suggesting two groups similar to Champ trophy?Coz imo they should hold off that atleast untill 12-14 teams are available.

The Eastern and Western Conference system has teams playing each other, but within the conference they play double the matches than they play with teams from the other conference, this is what they tried in IPL with 10 teams.

Yes but the look at the amount of teams in each conference that's why it doesn't feel like "repeat" also the duration, this is the best IPL can schedule.

Are we arguing about wrong topics?(I agree they took that idea from NBA )

The conference system will only work once you have eight to ten competitive teams within each conference.

Also the conference system may mean that KKR will never play DD or MI unless both teams reach the final. Will Indian fans be ok with it?

I mean to say that with 10 teams or even 12. IPL should stick to double round robin format. The conference system doesn't work with so little teams, we already saw how terrible it was. But with a 12 or 10 team round robin you would need to add one or two weeks to IPL, which is not possible in the current schedule.

Conference system allows for games between teams from different conferences but half the normal number during group stages. But you are right number of teams required is way higher for that.

Happy for the Afghan players, an 18 yr Afghan guy turns multi millionaire in minutes... dream come true, god bless him and hope he turns out good

Happy to see this, but what was so special about Rashid Khan? Never heard of him before.

ODIs 18 17 916 607 31 4/21 4/21 19.58 3.97
T20Is 21 21 486 498 31 3/11 3/11 16.06 6.14

That's what's special. Plus he can bat pretty well too.

Rashid Khan featuring Kaun Banega Crorepati!!

He hit the jackpot in his very first IPL selection. 4 Crores is a boat load of money. He is set for his life. More than set.
