Afghanistan, who have achieved success in Tests against Ireland and Bangladesh, are all set for their first-ever tour of Australia when they play a one-off Test in Perth in December. The tentative dates for the match are from December 7 to December 11 but the series will not be part of the ICC World Test Championships as Afghanistan are not in the top nine nations.

Afghanistan are all set to create more history in 2020 as they will play a one-off Test against Australia from December 7 to December 11 in Perth. The one-off Test match will not be part of the ICC World Test Championships as Afghanistan are not in the top nine nations. The ICC World Test Championship excludes the likes of Ireland, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. This will be the fifth team that Afghanistan plays a Test against. They lost their first game to India in just two days and also against the West Indies but they have notched up impressive wins against Ireland and historically, in Bangladesh as well.

The one-off Test against Afghanistan will be Australia’s first international assignment of the home summer after the ICC World T20 was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In place of the ICC World T20, IPL 2020 will take place in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. Initially, the plan for Australia was to host Afghanistan for a Test match from November 21 to 25 at the new Perth stadium but the coronavirus pandemic forced a total rescheduling.

Australia is seeing a second spurt of the coronavirus pandemic, with Melbourne being the epicenter. It is believed that Cricket Australia are in close talks with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), with Afghanistan officials wanting to play a couple of practice games. With Australia imposing a mandatory 14-day quarantine for teams that enter the country, the logistics presented will be a challenge.

So, is it going to be Australia B vs Afghanistan??

There is an India series going that time as well.

So, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe never got any Test in Australia since 2004.

Afghanistan is getting it! Big news.

To be fair, they deserve it. They are now better than Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Test.

Great for Afghan cricket.

Will be an absolute massacre though even if Aussies play a second string side.

It may not be a massacre. This is not the old Perth pitch.

Also, Rashid Khan has experience playing in Australia.

Whatever/however the pitch may be, it will be an absolute mauling. Nothing against Afghanistan, infact I want them to do well as a team and as a nation but just stating the obvious.

The way they played that game against India in favorable conditions..... well I just hope they win the toss and bat.

So how many days will the match be over in? I predict Australia making 600 declared and then Afghanistan making 250 across 2 innings.

Will do much worse. Shaheen, Naseem, Abbas etc are atleast 5 leagues above the likes of Gulbadins and the Zadrans.

It’ll be difficult to match Adelaide though - apart from a fluke Yasir hundred & timely rain, one Warner was enough to match PAK’s two innings - only second time in history.

Afghans will struggle for the bounce of the track against Aussie tall pacers, but Rashid should enjoy the bounce as well - I can bet, he’ll return with better stats than Yasir.

AUS doesn't even wanna tour BD, forget inviting BD.

Glad America smokes them in pretty much every single other sports out there.

To be fair, we are not good enough to face Australia currently. I don't blame them.

But, they toured us in 2017 and were supposed to tour again this year. But, COVID-19 messed it up.

I feel Afghans can provide a much better fight.

No, we are perfectly capable of playing them at home, in fact without Smith, they won’t draw a Test in Bangladesh if we can bat first. They were scheduled to tour BD in last June but it’s deferred, which I don’t mind as it’ll allow Shakib to come back - he carries three fold load for this team. Playing in Australia is beyond our capability for the time being and I was happy that the proposed tour was cancelled - but that is not a monopoly to Bangladesh only.

And, I am happy for Afghans not only that they are a growing team, but also this series puts a slap on the forecast that Aussies will cancel the Test against Afghans.
