Karachi has been notorious for it's kidnapping cutlure in the past, It's quite a common subject in most middle class circles in Pakistan. One of my uncles was kidnapped at gunpoint back in 1995 for a few weeks until a rs.300,000 ransom was paid to his Sindhi captures for his release... He said the culprits were polite and treated him suprisingly well throughout the ordeal.

Has anyone else experienced kidnappings within their family or friends circle in Pakistan?

If so,

Who was kidnapped & how?
How much was the ranson?
Were they looked after?
Did they make it back in one piece?

Was it this guy (dammit I forgot his name) who had a huge Karate school in Karachi. He even showed up in a bunch of movies. Wierd looking guy with a mullet going. I think his name was Sultan Golden or something like that.

my schoolmate was kidnapped from school... which was at Pahar Ganj (A Block NNazim, St'Judes HS). we were in class 1 and some Balochi/sindhi guys kidnapped my frnd and his bro (who was older)... they made them hostage for 1 week and gave them burger and all and let them watch latest indian movies. they asked 1 lac but in the end police commandos recovered them.
another of my schoolmate who was also my relative (same school) was kidnapped from school... but they didnt asked ransom or something... they tortured him and then left him somewhere at Sher Shah. somehow he came back to his home. he never told why they kidnapped him and he was very scared... docs asked his parents send him somewhere else... he is now in peshawar.

A guy I know was on holidays in Karachi. Thieves broke into his house and when they found out that there was no valuables (jewellery) for them to steal, they kidnapped him instead.

I dont really remember the story properly but apparently the kidnappers stopped the car somewhere and the guy decided to make a run for it. He leaped out of the car and jumped into the nearest cab and told the driver to just drive as there were kidnappers after him.

Somehow he was able to make it back to his house in one piece.

my cousin was kidnapped in Karachi around his school area on sunset blvd... this was back in 95-96 when he was 16-17... have no idea how much the ransom was as it was never paid... but the ransom had to be huge as his dad was quite a powerful guy back then...

they covered his head with a black cloth... fortunately he could see thru it... cutting the story short he escaped a couple of hours after they got him...
