Ajinkya Rahane should be nowhere near Indian ODI and T20 team

Indians commentators and posters were pretty happy with doubles those guys were taking all evening, they were applausing fitness of players... Nobody notices lack of power game, well till game ended...

WI hit three times more sixes than India, they made 146 in boundaries with Gayle only hit one. India hit four sixes, three of them by Sharma...In Indian team only two or 1.5 guys can hit sixes, where as WI has 8 who can hit big sixes... On phatta track that is always going to be a factor... They can play 4 dot balls and bang with two sixes over is ruined... Even on Sunday if track is photo, WI is favorite, Its power Vs more power ;-)

Interestingly in IPL India has outsource its weakness (power hitting and seam bowling) largely to foreigners. This means those areas remain weak... Only Sharma and Kohli can dominate the pace, Sharma is the only real power hitter... You don't want to overload Kohli, not his Job to become power hitter, he is already doing a lot, SA did that with AB and get nowhere, it was strategic mistake to make AB do work of three guys... England is sensible with Root, no need to make superman in teams...Its team of 11 after all...

An average in 30s and strike rate less than 80 isn't very good

Ohho why are you talking about his overall record? He's been very good in the last 1 year I guess his average would be in 40's.. He's been doing well you can't drop him from one day squad you don't need 11 powerhitters in one days..

There is only one slot available and Manish Pandey is better than rahane, so no place for him at the moment

I was seriously disappointed with him yesterday. He was so poor that he couldn't even hit the half trackers for boundaries. But one thing for sure, nothing will be able to beat the selfish innings yuvi played in last t20 world cup.

Rehane is a fine fine ODI bat.He is better than all of our ODI batsmen.

Does Rahane really deserve a place in the One Day side?

In a team where every player is striking in the late 80's, 90's or 100's he has a SR of 78. And he doesn't seem to be getting a lot of runs either. Scored his last century nearly three years ago, has an average of 32 and failed to step up to the plate today either. Not to forget, Dhoni himself says he struggles at No. 4 and 5 when the wicket is slow which doesn't bode well for his place as a middle-order batsman.

Some great players just aren't cut out for the shorter format i.e Younis Khan and with India having so much young talent coming in maybe it's time they let him go as a limited overs batsman and made him concentrate his energy purely on the longer format.

He doesn't unfortunately.

Test specialist.

Ajinkya Rahane lends balance, says Virat Kohli

Port of Spain: India skipper Virat Kohli praised centurion Ajinkya Rahane, saying his presence brings a balance to the side and allows him to play an extra bowler, which will come handy during the 2019 World Cup.

Rahane blasted a 104-ball 103 — studded with two sixes and 10 boundaries — to power India to 310-5 against the West Indies in the rain-truncated second one-dayer here.

“Jinx (Rahane) has been a part of the ODI set-up for a while and we all felt he had a great potential at the top of the order. He is always there as the third opening batsman,” Kohli said.

“In this series, he has batted really well in both the games. He paced his innings well. He is such an established Test batsman. He wants to make it count in the shorter format. I think he has started taking a lot less pressure on himself and has begun enjoying his game more. He can only go up from here and improve in this format,” he added.

Kohli said the role which Rahane plays lends balance to the side. “He can be that floater for us in the middle order. He might allow you to play an extra bowler in a big tournament like the 2019 World Cup. There are very few people who can perform two roles for the team. He can open and he can play in the middle-order.

“So, I see him providing more balance to us as a side, in terms of allowing us to taking an extra bowling option when he is there,” he explained. The young Kuldeep Yadav scalped three wickets in his second ODI to help India restrict West Indies to 205-6 and Kohli described the spinner as a lethal bowler.

“His cross seam deliveries turn both ways. I have faced him in the IPL. He’s quite amazing with what he does with the bowl and especially on dry wickets like it was, he becomes even more lethal. Credit to him for putting up such a performance,” he said.

“A wrist spinner is a bonus. When you talk about the 2019 World Cup, We have 15 players here, 10-12 players are ready back home, who will be tested how they react in pressure situation, and who is going make impact in middle overs with the ball. We need to identify and then figure out who are performing under pressure.”

Talking about the overall team composition, Kohli said: “For us as a team, it’s about doing the things right that we can do right, execute our skills to the best of our potential and regardless of how the opposition reacts, we want to do our things right, stay committed on the field be it batting, bowling or fielding.” India will play the third ODI on June 30 at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards stadium.

Rahane holds the Indian team back. Scoring a century against a number 9 team is no massive achievement. India has at least 10 more talented batsmen.

Rahane. A centurion against the mighty windies.
Sharma. A duck against the "son" Pakistan.
I don't know what's worse.

Rahane is probably one of my favorite current players in world-cricket. I think the guy has great temperament and there's probably even a great captain inside of him that will never come out until Kohli is playing. But I agree that there are just better, younger and more deserving players than him in the limited-overs who India should invest in. The most obvious name is KL Rahul who should return to the squad when he recovers from injury.

Rahane, Pujara, Murli Vijay ,Kedar jadahv KL Rahul ,Ashwin , Jadeja should be test specialists only.
To earn money and for enjpyment, they can play T20 leagues but for the Indian team in ODI/T20 to be competitive in todays world Risabh ,Shreyas, Krunal , Manish Pandey , Hardik to go with Kohli, Rohit,Dhawan as batters.
