Alex Hales has spent the past four months in bio-bubbles and has now decided to protect his mental wellbeing by pulling out of playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League

He was due to play for Kolkata Knight Riders but, having spent the past four months overseas in restrictive bio-bubbles, has decided to protect his mental wellbeing.

Hales played in the Big Bash and the Pakistan Super League.

He tested positive for Covid in Australia and withdrew from the PSL before later re-joining the tournament.

Just goes to prove, money and IPL cheer leaders aren't everything.

Aaron Finch joins Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Alex Hales.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed Aaron Finch as a replacement for England batter Alex Hales for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Hales has cited bubble fatigue as his reason for withdrawal from the tournament. Finch – Australia’s ICC T20 World Cup-winning captain, has thus far played 88 T20Is and has scored 2686 runs with the help of 2 hundreds and 15 half-centuries. Finch, who has played 87 IPL games and has over 2000 IPL runs, will join KKR at the price of INR 1.5 Crore. KKR – the two-time IPL Champions – will kickstart the TATA IPL 2022 proceedings on March 26 when they take on Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Mamoon didnt you say he used PSL to get into IPL?

Huge slap on the face for our self-proclaimed legendary poster 'Mamoon' for claiming that he "used" PSL to get an IPL contract.

Awaiting Mamoon's predictable comments i.e. "The IPL is too big to be concerned about the antics of the PSL leftover Hales"

He also said : “one of the best opportunities of my career”?

Lol the guy is a professional cricket player of England.

Of course Hales pulled out. He is easily one of the most impactful T20 players on the planet. Yet someone like Shreyas Iyer was pick up at 8 times Hales' price.

Looks like Hales has begun playing 5D chess now.
😂

In all seriousness Hales is one heck of a T20 batsman.. Hoping for his mental well being because he is awesome to watch in T20 format.

Is there a need of a bubble now? Western countries are beginning to open up and are now going to make masks mandatory.

These bubbles are not sustainable forever

Man these bubble lives and atmosphere must really be difficult and stressful, regardless how much cricket you're playing and earning.

Over here in the UK you don’t even need to self isolate anymore if you test positive, must be hard especially for players from places where these restrictions don’t exist now

Well it proves that not all cricketers just chase the rupee.

Fair enough decision from him - he's played in a number of leagues and obviously wants a break.

I think we are going to see more of this. Even when the world moves on from bubble life, the over scheduling of cricket leagues and bi laterals is going to force players to make some tough decisions. Even without the bubble, being away from home in india for such a long tournament takes its toll on mental health. Also, a lot of posters were mocking the seriousness of mental health, it’s something real and must be recognized.

IPL doesn't need substandard players like hales, he averages 24 with 125 strike rate in IPL. With such poor record he was lucky to be picked in the auction

Looks like some genuine attempt by England players and ECB to sabotage IPL. Last year likes of Butler etc opted out in UAE leg of the tournament. Then likes of David Gower blamed IPL for England's Ashes debacle and then he himself went to the PSL as commentator. Now Jason Roy and Alex Hales opted out.

Pretty sure ECB somehow trying to big up The hundreds and somehow squandar IPL.

Maybe IPL should adopt similar policy towards English players like they have for Pakistan. First few years there were hardly any English players in IPL and those were super hit tournaments. So IPL dont necessarily need English players for it to become a hit.

It seems it is not a matter of pride for players to take part in IPL anymore? #sabchangasi :inti

Not sure what you mean by its not a matter of pride...lol. Are you by any chance denying IPL is the best league cricket by some distance and rest of them cant hold a candle infront of it? So playing in IPL is definitely very prestigious. But does it have the same prestige as say representing your country in test cricket? Ofcourse not.

But makes no mistake every player in the world would choose IPL over any other cricket league.

ECB is upset since we cancelled that 5th test and trying its best to harm IPL in some form or other by blocking its players. The onus is on BCCI now to perma ban England players just like they did for Pak cricketers.

Enough players in IPL to make it a hit even without Alex Hales. He only got a chance bcoz it has just increased to 10 teams. IPLs broadcasting rights sold for 50,000 crores and the tournament keeps on growing. Whinning Brits unable to digest its success.

People were over critical when Hales left Islamabad United. They did not believe him.It seems he was genuinely fatigued. He is turning down a big sum of money from IPL.It is good to have money but money is not everything.I am speaking from experience.

Too much cricket is being played these days.It is taking a toll in players physical and mental well being.More and more players are going to opt out from some T20 leagues.

Love the fickleness of Indian fans, throwing their toys out of the Pram and now targetting the English players calling them to be banned. As great as the IPL is, it is not everything for some.

Hales has left KKR in lurch. So close to the start of the season. Does not bode well for his future employment in IPL.

More importantly, how are KKR going to fill that spot? Any overseas players jumping for it? If yes, makes KKR's search easy.

Covid may be a non-issue in a few months. Many countries are already allowing travel without any vaccine or tests.

Lets get back to the topic now.

Is there that much fear of Mamoon? I guess the site is for both. Those that love Pak cricket a passion and those that hate it with a passion!

Good decision Alex.

Would you put him in the category of Starc, Stokes and Root who rejected IPL? Or is this a one off thing and he will be right back next year knocking on IPL doors?

If he does come back next year, will the IPL reject him?

Hales isn't even on good terms with English Cricket and is sort of unofficially blacklisted for international cricket.

He seems to have prioritized the Big Bash and PSL and rejected the IPL.

yeah, right. And now we're waiting for Rambo Raja to announce that Davey warner, smith etc with their lovey dovey moves in the first test are angling for PSL contracts. And Santa Claus exists. Yeah.

Yes, but then again for some people (such as the person you quoted), believing in an outlandish and weird conspiracy theory is clearly just more interesting.

This is a wise mental health decision.

I think Alex will want to try again next year, because Eoin Morgan has blackballed him and locked him out of international selection.

Whether Alex gets accepted into an IPL franchise again after this remains to be seen.

If ever there was a slap on the face of some anti pakistan posters, this is one.

Good for Alex that he can rest.

Root put his name in the auction and wasn't picked, lol.

Root put his name in the auction and wasn't picked, lol.

If I remember correctly, Root put his name up for the past two auctions but no one was interested. But withdrew from the current one because of the Ashes and public perception.

I think both Root and Stokes just did it for this season because of the Ashes debacle. They will be back next season knocking on the IPL.

Nothing more important then health. Alex will not be short of money that he should risk his mental well being even if it is for lots more. Good decision considering he has been made a Covid prisoner for so long.

Matter of pride lol. They play these tamasha leagues for money not pride. And in this case Hales has put his health and saftey over money which is hardly surprising. Not everyone is after money in this world. :inti

Yeah lol right back at you.

He entered the last two auction and got nothing.
What's he sacrificing now?

The only thing he achieved by doing this is saving himself from yet another humiliation of not getting picked.

You need to dive into details.

You really don't mind lying in every of your posts? At least you can read and search a little before posting.

Root wasn't in IPL auction 2021 either.

Let's see what do you have to say now.

If it can help you, Root hasn't put his name in IPL auctions for the last 4 years.

Some how I seem to remember him being going unsold twice. How many auctions have there been in the last 4 years?

Quite surprised he pulled out, he was being called out by so many people for leaving the PSL Mid way, so
glad he came back for the Final.

Only the players would know how much they go through mentally inside bubbles and in tight environments.

It’s not worth it, 2 months in a bubble + his IPL salary is no different to what he earns in the PSL.
