This is my all-time West Indies test xi to play in India

Gordon Greenidge
Clive Lloyd
Rohan Kanhai
Everton Weekes
Alvin Kalicharan
Gary Sobers
Jeff Dujon
Malcolm Marshall
Andy Roberts
Courtney Walsh
Lance Gibbs

Gordon Greenidge was most solid in the sun-continent registering many a big score.

Cllive Lloyd was simply consistency personified contributing more to series wins for hsi nation in India than any batsmen of his era.In Mumbai in 1975 and in Kolkata in 1984 he took the bull by the horn almost single-handedly turning the complexion of both games being unbeaten in both games.Supreme domination of the best bowlers be it Bedi,Prasanna or Kapil Dev.

Rohan Kanhai mastered turning tracks like few batsmen ever as he displayed on 2 tours.Few innings could surpass his 256 in Kolkata in 1957-58 for batting virtuoso. No batsmen was more consummate.

Everton Weekes may have even surpassed Bradman in 1950 when his domination of bowling reached heights of the sublime or the divine.

Alvin Kalicharan tackled spin bowling like a genius and his average of a bove 58 is a testimony to this.

Gary Sobers was at his very best on Indian tracks so his choice is unanimous.

Jeff Dujon was a model of consistency as a keeper and batsmen.

Malcolm Marshall was a supreme craftsmen on the docile Indian tracks.Skidded the ball like nonoe else with masterly use of the crease.

Andy Roberts single-handedly spearheaded an attack capturing 32 wickets in 1974-75.A master with the old ball.

Courtney Walsh statistically is the best of all Calypso pace man in terms of aggregate wickets in India.

Lance Gibbs would conquer the Indian conditions.

I left out Viv Richards as he was not at his best in India and infact performed best when he was past his peak in 1987-88.Lara only toured India once.On turning tracks I preferred Kalicharan to Viv.Walsh was more effective on flat pancakes than Ambrose or Garner and more successful than Holding.Promoted Lloyd to position of an opening batsmen to accommodate the other stars.Kanhai was definitely better against great spin than Viv and so was Kalicharan.

Significant that greats like Viv Richards,Lara and Ambrose do not make my all-time xi to tour India in test cricket.

No Ambrose , Richards & Lloyd to open

Richards and Ambrose were not at their best here.Ambrose never played tests while Viv averaged under 45.Remember Viv was not at his best against spin.Had to fit Lloyd in somewhere .I would appoint him the skipper.

I know this is India tour specific but Lloyd himself would pick Viv & Ambrose if available . As a matter of fact , any skipper would .

Come on man, Viv has to be there. I understand this is an XI for Test, but he has played two of the most clutch knocks in Test cricket in IND (Delhi) - 192* in his 2nd Test when for the first time someone counter attacked Indian spin trio at their home, then his 109* on a difficult wicket to chase ~270 on Day 5, again at FSK. First time he helped WIN to win by innings, from an even position after 5 sessions of the game (added 350+ with last 6 wickets), 2nd time chased that target with a 6th wicket partnership of 100+ at run a minute, on a wicket where 1st 2 innings were 75 & 127.

Most of the players select themselves in such teams, but I don't agree with 2 of your selections - NO WAY, Walshi should come ahead of Mike - he was simply unplayable in that 1983-84 series. I believe 30 wickets in 6 Tests (5 effectively, was injured once), at 19 or so on Indian tracks of that era was one of the best ever displays of blistering pace with skill and intelligence. Al Kali doesn't make my XI, for sure and we can have a debate between Weekes V Jimmy Adams, because JA scored his runs against a rampant Kumble & Srinath in his first series at home ..... Sir Everton scored tons of runs against IND of late 40s - but I give it to Everton Weekes. Rohan has to open here and he'll do damn good as opener.

Lara didn't failed in India, he just didn't played enough to perform there.

There is absolutely no reason to leave him out. How can someone so good as Lara against spin fail in India? They are misleading stats. If Lara played 10 tests, he would have scored enough there.

Strewth, Sobey was a monster in India, averaging a Bradmanesque 99 with the bat and 26 with the ball. I wonder which styles he was bowling in there.

I wouldnt consider that a WIix11 so many great names missing
Richards, Lara ,Ambrose

I do rate Lara as the best non Asian player against Spin, probably one of top 2-3 ever against spin; but he played only 3 Tests in IND and walked off at 93 (when Venkat gave him Not Out !!!) - without a century and averaging U35. His record in SRL is better than Bradman & in PAK is also very good (under 50 for his first series). But, he shouldn't be in this XI because then every such team will be WIN best ever XI. Weekes average 111 in IND (5 Tests), Lloyd averages 75 (15 Tests), while Sir Gary averages 100 in IND, and I have mentioned Viv earlier - Lara can't replace these 4 in middle order. Kanhai was pure class and he averages 64 in IND, and Grineedge started career in IND with 104 & 94 .... ended with a career of 1000+ runs at 45+ average in IND, can't drop him for Lara as opener.

In my ATG WIN team, BC will replace E Weekes, and Ambi will replace Gibbs from my XI.
