Lol Sehwag and Yuvraj shouldn't be anywhere near the all time side.

I am myself surprised to pick Pandya so early in his career. I think he’s quite phenomenal and worth a lot. Any team would gladly add him in their playing XI right now.

Sehwag was better than Anwar. Even Rohit is better than Anwar.
Yuvi is personal choice one can replace him with Miandad, Zaheer or inzi.

Sehwag was only better in Tests, Anwar was far a superior batsman than Sehwag in LOI.

Especially since Sehwag only became useful in LOI later on in his career.

Actually now I come to think of it a bit more I will choose Rohit over both of them for odis. He is better than both in LOI's

Anwar was more or less an ITB. He was good in 90s for a couple of years but over the period of his entire career sehwag was better batsman..

How exactly? Sehwag striked at over 100, Anwar at 80. Sehwag averages 36 to Anwar’s 39.

Better openers than Rohit Sharma? :))

Rohit played in the batsman friendly conditions. He'd be a walking wicket if he played in the 90s against bowlers like Walsh, Ambrose, McGrath, Waqar etc.

Sehwag only become better later on in his career when batting conditions and rules being much easier and bowlers weren't as good as the ones in the 90s.

Anwar retired in 2003.

The word IF has no place in cricket. Rohit is twice the ODI batsman that Anwar ever was. Rohit is the second best opener from Asia after Sachin.

Sehwas was brilliant in ODI cricket right from the start. He was never as consistent as some others, but he kept his average hover around 35 odd right from the start, striking at over 100.

Not true, it was around 2008 when he average went from a meagre 32 to gradually what it is now.

Rohit would be facing a ton of balls that would have him caught for LBW more often than not.

He struggles against the moving ball in this day and age, no way he was going to survive in the 90s.

Sehwag is overrated as an ODI natsman. His real greatness was in test cricket where he towers over many greats you would otherwise think would have much better test careers than Sehwag. 8,000 test runs at an SR of 80+ with nearly 3 triples, 9 double hundreds is quite phenomenal.

I’d take Anwar over Sehwag in ODIs but then i’d also take Ganguly, Sharma, Dhawan over him so he never makes a combined India-Pakistan ODI XI.

For nostalgia sake it makes sense to have him though, in the 90s he was Pakistan’s star batsman.

Like I said, there is no IF in cricket. What you are saying is your assumption. And different people have different assumptions. Anwar was a fine ODI batsman but nowhere as good as Rohit. Rohit is far more destructive than Anwar was.

Different playing conditions, rules, powerplays, two new balls.

Saeed averaged 40 odd in that era, Sharma is no match for Anwar.

Butler is also far more destructive and also de kock, brendan , warner and even zaman is more devastating

Probably would have Dhoni as captain too.

LMAO Jasprit Bhumrah ahead of Shoaib Akhtar..... :)))

The batting lineup is difficult but not a single bowler should be Indian. Bumrah hasn’t done enough. Wasim, Waqar, saqlain, Shoaib

Maybe something like

Tendulkar
Anwar
Kohli
Rohit
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Imran
Wasim
Saqlain
Waqar
Akhtar

Tbh it’s a toss up between Miandad and Yuvraj. Yuvi is obviously the much better modern odi batsman but Miandad was one of the best of his time

Rohit played in the batsman friendly conditions. He'd be a walking wicket if he played in the 90s against bowlers like Walsh, Ambrose, McGrath, Waqar etc.

I'm guessing your crystal ball told you that? He averages 56 as an opener in the conditions he was given to play in, and that's all that matters.

Tendulkar
Anwar
Kohli
Abbas/Miandad
Yuvraj
Dhoni(C/wkt)
Kapil
Wasim
Saqlain
Bumrah
Waqar

Reserves:-

Imran Khan

If i remember correctly, Gili and Sehwag both had a similar SR and average till 2007 which was 35 at 95 for both. Gili retired in early 2008 i believe. Sehwag upped his SR in the next 3-4 years and then declined rapidly around 2012.

1. Rohit Sharma (2nd greatest ODI opener of all time)
2. Sachin Tendulkar (Greatest ODI opener of all time)
3. Virat Kohli (2nd greatest ODI batsman of all time)
4. Zaheer Abbass (Greatest ODI batsman from Pakistan)
5. Javed Miandad (ATG ODI batsman)
6. MS Dhoni (Greatest ODI player of all time)
7. Imran Khan (Greatest bowling all rounder of all time)
8. Shahid Afridi (Useful leg spinner and lower order slogger)
9. Wasim Akram (Greatest ODI bowler)
10. Waqar Younis (2nd best Asian bowler of all time)
11. Saqlain Mushtaq (Greatest ODI spinner)

12th man

Yuvraj Singh
Excellent option for ODIs for his batting, bowling, and fielding

No place for Inzamam for his horrible World Cup record and against Australia and SA.

Kapil Dev doesn’t make it because Imran was a better bowler.

Sachin Tendulkar He would be opener in World XI also.

Rohit Sharma Three double hundreds in 50 over game , there are some big players who have not made double hundred in Test , let alone in OD. His batting ability is too much not to pick him.

Virat Kohli Amount of runs , and chasing ability makes him a perfect number 3 . Can play in all gears when required.

Javed Miandad Very consistent player under pressure. 9 consecutive 50 plus score , a fighter to the core. Asset to the team.

Yuvraj Singh Tough choice to make , there were many contenders . Yuvraj wins because of his effortless fielding , as well as for being able to bowl a few overs consistently.

MS Dhoni I do not think anyone has any doubts here . Fantastic WK , as well as Master finisher.

Imran Khan Genuine Pacer , and decent lower order hitter

Kapil Dev Very good OD all rounder . Adds hitting ability down the order , as well as decent seam option.

Wasim Akram He is another player after Tendulkar who would easily be in World XI. A magician with the ball , and good slogger with bat.

Saqlain Mushtaq Another who should walk into world XI. Can even bowl well in death overs.

Shoaib Akhtar Tough choice between waqar and Shoaib. I feel Shoaib just edges here for me.

Sachin
Rohit
Kohli
Inzi
Yuvraj
Dhoni (C)
Imran
Wasim
Waqar
Saqlain
Kumble/Akthar (dependent on conditions)

Everyone looking pretty similar but i don't think this team can be beaten:

Rohit
Sachin
Kohli
Inzi
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Imran
Dev
Wasim
Waqar
Saqlain

Top 3 is self explanatory. Inzi at 4 because when he scores he wins games. Yuvi because who else can bat well enough to make the side and provide a few handy overs of spin if necessary. Imran, Kapil and Wasim coming in at 7,8,9 is solid batting depth.

Devastating left/right opening bowling combination followed by Imran first change. Saqlain clearly the best ODI spinner to come out of the subcontinent. Kapil and Yuvraj providing 5th bowler quota comfortably.

Rohit
Sachin
Kohli
Zaheer abbas
Yuvraj
MS Dhoni
Imran Khan
Kapil Dev
Wasim Akram
Saqlain Mushtaq
Waqar/Kumble

Opener to replace Rohit - Anwar
Back up MO/Chaser - Miandad (I prefer Miandad over Inzi due to his mental fortitude)
Spinner to replace Waqar in asian conditions - Kumble

Assuming all players are in their prime form, and only selecting from players who have played 150+ matches.

Sachin
Anwar
Kohli
Yousuf (took him over Inzi because he's more capable of hitting centuries from the middle order)
Yuvraj
MS Dhoni (wk) (vc)
Imran Khan (c)
Wasim
Saqlain
Waqar
Akthar

Honorable mentions:

Ganguly: Most of his innings (and centuries came from) he opened (236 out of 300). He averages better than Sehwag/Anwar, but in my team I will take the more aggressive and riskier approach. I also didn't force him in the middle order, similarly to how I excluded Inzi, because Yuvi and MoYo have scored the most middle order centuries for their country.

Bumrah: I already mentioned I'm only looking at players with at least 150 caps, and this could be seen a biased qualification as it also affects the consideration of Shikhar Dhawan as an opener -- but sample size matters a lot in perspective. He's been great, but in the same amount of matches thus far, Akthar's average and SR were better than Bumrah's through 51 matches.

Kapil Dev: No disrespect towards the Indian legend, but he doesn't make the team over Imran Khan as IK was both better with the bat and the ball -- and I'd take the other four primary bowlers over him.

Zaheer Abbas: Sample size

Sachin
Ganguly
Virat
Miandad
Zaheer Abbas
Dhoni
Kapil Dev(c)
Wasim Akram
Waqar Younis
SaqlainMustaq
Jasprit Bumrah

Sachin Tendulkar
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
Inzamam
Yuvraj Singh
MS Dhoni (Captain and Wicketkeeper)
Imran Khan
Kapil Dev
Wasim Akram
Waqar Younis
Saqlain Mushtaq

Saeed Anwar
Sachin
Ganguly
Kohli
Yuvi
Imran (c)
Dhoni
Waseem
Waqar
saqlain
Shoaib

1. Viru
2. Sahin
3. Virat
4. Yuvi
5. Inzi
6. Dhoni - c - wk
7. Abdul Razzaq
8. Wasim
9. Waqar
10. Akhtar
11. Saqlain Mustaq

though not to include Anwar , its touch and go between him and sehwag

likewise i have always had a soft spot for Abdul Razzaq, even though Imran probably should be there instead

I'll go with

1. Sachin Tendulkar
2. Rohit Sharma
3. Virat Kohli
4. Javed Miandad
5. Inzamam Ul Haq
6. M.S. Dhoni
7. Imran Khan
8. Kapil Dev
9. Wasim Akram
10. Saqlain Mushtaq
11. Waqar Younis

That's the misconception people have that anything old is gold. Pitches were flat in 90s also. Not evrrhh pitch was a landmine. And anwars record is based on bashing Indian trundlers mostly. He didn't have some out of the world record against the best bowlers anyways.

Rohit is the best opener of his generation and clearly a superior batsman to Anwar and even sehwag. One can argue Anwar would have been like imam ul haq in this era facing Bumrah, starc, Cummings, Boult, rabada etc. The slower bouncers, slower balls, knuckle balls, slower Yorkers etc are variations which old batsmen didn't have to face so cricket has grown as a sport it's only natural to grow.
We can only base the better as per data we have and not on its and buts, could and would, so as per data Rohit is 2nd best opener after SRT from India pakistan.

Actually I just went through the stats and anyone who choses Anwar over Rohit has no clue about cricket.

Anwars record against Australia and South Africa is atrocious. With high sample size.
His record against West Indies is boosted by the 4 matches he played in Pakistan to get 35 average. Away average against West Indies is in 20's.
His away average against all opposition's including his favourite India is less than 30.

Anwar was a good batsman but he based his career bashing Indian trundlers. He was decent against England but then England were a rubbish ODI team like indian.

People are just clouded by nostalgia when choosing Anwar. He was inferior batsman to Sehwag and Rohit. And if Dhawan can carry on for a couple of years at same form even dhawan will be ahead of Anwar.

Ganguly Vs Anwar can be made a case of. Even there Anwar might lose out but will have to dig up stats for that comparison.

Only on PP Anwar is made out to be some legendary opener when in reality he was a good player that's all. His lack of fitness and personal tragedies might be the reason but overall as a batsman he is very overrated on PP and not rated anywhere else.
