This post is upon Uzair’s request
I was told that there had been some interesting discussions in the forum about Pro’s Bats … whether they are something out of the normal bats what we use? Well I had the chance to actually look/use a Pro’s Bat recently. Basically a close friend of mine (he was playing professional cricket in UK when he was there) who also lives in Dubai now … his friend (I’ll keep his identity & team which he plays for as hidden but he has played lot of First Class, List A & T20s etc.) was transiting in Dubai en route to India to play Champions League – 2011. This guy had bunch of bats with him; he told my friend to pick one for himself the one he liked … my friend took this bat (photos below). I had the chance to see the bat when it was absolutely untouched (pity I didn’t photos then), a plain bat without even the grip.
The bat is probably somewhere around 2.8lbz, it has superb pickup. My friend didn’t even knock the bat with mallet or something; after putting the grips, he took it straight to nets and later used it in couple of matches. While I was about to oil my Scat, he asked if I can oil this bat too alongside. The willow here was super dry as oiled seeped into the bat almost instantly, I completed the oiling process in about 5 days. We had some throw downs in nets today before the match with it and it sounded much better vs before oiling, I am quite sure if this bat had been (or even now) knocked properly it would have been a gem.
To come back to the point if Pro’s bat is something extra ordinarily prepared … I don’t see anything specially or extraordinary done with this bat. Without taking any credit away from this bat, I can safely say that my Scat & Newbery are much much better than this bat (in any aspect). I have posted high resolutions photos on purpose so you can have much closer look and share your feedback … I personally was (and still is) convinced that Pro’s bat are same as what we have access to in the market. We have no clue about its manufacturer, but to me it’s not an Asian bat, it’s more of English styled one.
I have tried to cover everything, but please feel free to ask questions if I have missed anything … here are the photos:
