The Earth is flat… or turnip shaped, according to England cricket legend Flintoff

“If you’re in a helicopter and you hover, why does the earth not come to you if it is round?” Flintoff asked, according to The Sun. “Why, if we’re hurtling through space, why would water stay still? Why is it not wobbling? Also, if you fire a laser about 16 miles, if the world was curved, you shouldn’t be able to see it but you can.”

He added: “There’s evidence to suggest that the world isn’t round. The pictures which you see, the horizon always appears flat apart from NASA pictures, which some say could be doctored. They could be doctored.”

Flintoff, who inspired England to victory in the 2005 series, conceded he does not think the world is entirely flat, however, rather believing it is “bulbous, like a turnip.” He said: “I am not coming out now and saying that the world is flat, but it could be. You’ve got the earth, its bulbous, like a disc. It’s not completely flat underneath.”

He added: “The middle is the North Pole, around the outside is the South Pole, which is like a big wall of ice. This is why all governments now have bases on the South Pole. You can’t turn up to the South Pole as a punter.”

I also believe in flat earth , it's in the Quran and most orthodox Sunni schools agree on earth being flat.

I never really understood the motivation of the flat earth theory.

Other conspiracy theories have reasons to exist for example the government staging 9/11 to justify invading Iraq or the Illuminati. But this theory just seems a little bit pointless. What motivation could the governments of the world possibly have to lie about the shape of the world.

Even if the world was flat what would the government get from hiding it.

Well in the Quran it says we spread the earth out like a carpet

There was some Saudi scholar who was claiming earth is fixed and does not rotate

Most scholars as far back as hundreds of years ago such as Ja’far ibn al-Munaadi and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah agreed that he Earth is spherical. As far as the verse 72:19 is concerned, it’s referring to the land itself as expansive as in the surah (Nur) it states that it is made wide and spread out for settlement.

A lot of young people believe this now.

I blame the schools.

Surely belief in a Flat Earth is an automatic rubber-stamped guarantee that a human being must be stupid.

James I would say it is a failure to think critically, which is is a failure of education.

No lol

the Arabs measured the circumference of the earth with remarkable accuracy. Seven centuries were to pass before Western Europe discovered that the world was not flat :yk

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about :shaq

I blame the Youtube for this. They must delete hour-long conspiracy theory videos which are spreading this nonsense.

Erathonenes the Greek figured out the radius and circumference of the Earth in 200 BCE.

But whoever built the Great Pyramid 4000 years ago knew it too.....

+1. It only proves that Humanity regresses every x milenarias and then the cycle continues.

Around 400 years ago Galileo was outlawed in Europe  Process that.

Reminds me of a movie called Cloud Atlas

If Flintoff was Pakistani then people would use his comments to generalize all Pakistanis.

Many pro athletes and religious people below that earth is flat.

The Bible Belt of USA also believes the same. Flat earth and creationism. Nothing can convince them. It’s written in their scripture and that is the absolute truth to them.

"Most sunni schools agree with it"
Thats a first for me.
Its nonsense! I was always taught by my teachers, religious or otherwise, that the earth was round as per Quran. And in my personal research too, i have found nothing different in Quran.

It’s interest by how as some of u mentioned, we have not made any giant leaps in ages. Mooin Landing was big but we haven’t been back since then, that was nearly 60 years ago. In math and physics some of the important concepts we learn are also old science, very few ground breaking new discoveries, breakthroughs in the last century and a half.

I wonder why!

And I hate my fat fingers. I just realized my last post was probably really painful to read.. 🤓

Western culture probably peaked with the Moon landings and has been at a plateau or slow decline since. Time for the Chinese to take humanity forward.

Absolutely wrong! Neither Quran nor orthodox Scholars have believed such a thing

(I ain't no hipster and neither am I one of those Twitter SJW hashtagger folks but) I like Elon Musk (from an entrepreneurship point of view). This guy will mark a difference as far as Space/Technology is concerned.

Western culture is still the world's leader. Might be in decline tho.
