I am planning a family road trip with gf and som in December for 11 nights. Airline tickets are so expensive. So the only two places that I want to spend money to get to from New York are tunisia or Bulgaria and maybe Albania . Anyone been to either ? Any tips?

Been to both.

Tunisia is ok. I went to a resort and did some excursions...so its kinda the same resort experience you would get anywhere else. Most people tend to stick to the resorts, rather than adventuring on their own.

Bulgaria - Ive been to Sofia. Nice place but wouldnt spend 11 days there. If you can drive then hiring a car and exploring other european countries is an option. Or even taking a train.

I have been reading about tunisia. Not planning on going to any resorts . Non resort thing looks good. What other countries from Bulgaria u recommend. I was gong to rent a car. On the way back if I go to Bulgaria I have 2 days in Serbia

Never been to either country.

Not interested to visit Bulgaria anyway. However, I would love to visit Tunisia.

Hopefully this answered your query SalimBhai

Question is did we visit those countries. I said no.

Check your own answer first. Your answer has nothing to do with the thread.

You could try Turkey from Bulgaria too.

If you want more adventure then probably a driving holiday from Bulgaria will be better than Tunisia.

Wooow. So I don’t like tunisia. I am not a resort guy. So was thinking of going non resort spots. Have been to morocco, Algeria Libya ( as a child) and egypt. So tunisia is one left in North Africa. Plus the ticket is very cheap. You don’t think 11 days road trip tunisia will be good with kid and gf?

I'm not sure bro.

It was nice but it didn't seem as friendly as Morocco to me and my own experience was limited due to the age of my children.

I think you should speak to someone on tripadvisor or something to guage how good a road trip wouod be there.

Are the people of Tunisia similar to Morroccans or maybe a bit more modern? I know you can't really get much of a feel for a place in a resort, but I did find that Morrocco was quite traditional outside the resorts, although yes, very friendly.

They are quite similar - both maghrebi with french influences.

Morocco probably more "modern" and seemed more used to tourists.

Both reasonably safe for women too.

I just couldn't imagine spending a lot of time exploring in Tunisia - it was a great holiday for kids playing in the pool. Morocco seemed more conducive to going out and exploring.

The Egyptians are the worst of all North Africans btw. Even as brown people I'd hate to travel there with my missus. Can only imagine how those with blonde wifes/partners would fare.

That's odd, I know of two women who swear by Egypt as their favourite destination, and they are not traditional at all, you would think they would get hassle if anyone does. But I guess maybe they were staying at a resort and didn't explore the city much.
