KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Mohammad Khan has admitted that the decision to appoint Azhar Ali as ODI skipper was ‘a failed experiment’.

In a TV show on Tuesday, he said that on the recommendation of captain, coach, authorities in PCB, selectors, chief selectors and senior players, Azhar was appointed the ODI captain, however, he added that the appointment was not his decision.

Shaharyar said that Ali was a defensive captain; his personality did not match the likes of Imran Khan and Misbahul Haq, hence he asked him to step down from the ODI captaincy in favour of Sarfaraz Ahmed as it was adversely affecting his batting performance.

He informed that Ali was dejected from the decision and requested the board to also relieve him from the vice-captaincy of the Test team - his request was accepted.

On March 31 2015, Shaharyar announced to give ODI captaincy to Ali after Misbahul Haq`s retirement.

In his first tour as ODI captain, Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan by 3-0. Ali captained the greenshirts in 31 ODI matches - of which he won 12 and lost 18.

Here's Shehryar uncle's daily statements.

Surprised he didn't mention India "honouring the MOU" as per usual.

Khuda ka wasta hai.. somebody give shut up call to Sheri uncle.

What is the need for this now?

With all respect Misbah was never an aggressive captain in ODIs, can't compare him with IK.

He just can't stop running his mouth.A joke of a chairman.

I can't wait until he retires in August.

This is absolutely ludicrous!! He is defying the basic fundamentals of leadership day in and day out . .

if you are going to come on freaking media and divulge this information, then what's the point of asking him to step down?! Might as well publicly fire him!!

Shameful and unfortunate!!

that is how they work... pretend to have sound knowledge, work hard, think fast, act smart, eventually all ends childish...

Uncle Sheri and his daily dose of Media outings.

This guy just loves to have the mic doesn't he !!!

At the time i remember it was said that Misbah and Waqar were the ones who strongly lobbied for Azhar Ali and to be honest i find that perfectly plausible.

this coming from somebody who was considered to be an upstanding diplomat!
Boggles the mind

I honestly think he is loosing it due to his age

This guy has a great reputation in the UN and diplomatic community yet here he acts like a foolish child

It was obviously Misbah's decision. Chacha Shahry just goes with the flow, where does he take decision making?

How the hell did he have a successful career as a diplomat with this tendency to make nonsensical statements every few days?

Why doesnt he tell us whose decision it was to make Azhar captain then

in the annals of history, these people should go down as the one who killed an entire sport for a country with 200 million people.

should be shamed forever.
