Are Pakistan losing Test matches because they lack alpha-male characters in the side?

Back in the day, Pakistan had the likes of Imran, Javed, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, YK etc. who were tough men and were willing to sledge and mix it up with opposition players and even try to intimidate them on the field.

But off the field, they were pretty social with the same opposition.

This current lot under timid Babar look extremely submissive, scared, apologetic and defeated when a single batter goes after them or when they face one hostile spell of bowling.

Test cricket is only for those who are prepared to be ruthless and fight it out . Forget talent, this is a team full of weak men who can't compete on the field.

And off the field , they are weird like Mohammad Ali not shaking Stokes' hand.

Do you think this team needs much stronger characters and why arent Pakistan producing them? Discuss

You mean to say the team is full of kittens who likes cuddles?

You're right.

To an extent. The current lot are certainly very timid, and this leads to things such as playing overly defensively when the situation requires an attacking approach

We do have some characters to be honest in Shaheen (Injured), Shadab (Not fit enough for red ball cricket currently as it looks), Hassan Ali (Out of form otherwise led Central Punjab to title defense as captain with pure character throughout the tournament in 2020-21) and maybe couple of others. They aren't timid by any means and are ready to battle it out but, for the team as a whole to have a certain character that comes from the management and the captain.

So yes we can say that the current team in itself lacks that ruthlessness which should be there at top level.

The captain of the side is everything in Cricket, he sets the tone for the entire team and the team looks up to the captain. Sadly Babar is an thoroughly incompetent captain who has no idea what he is doing.

They have an alpha make but they've benched him like it or not Sarfraz is that gutsy character

This. Captain and management create the environment and the style of cricket they want to play. England under Root vs England under Stokes and BMac is a clear example of what a change in mindset can do from almost losing everything in red ball cricket in a season to losing just one test since becoming in charge.

Until last year English experts and commies were talking about how red ball structure possibly needs a revamp as the players coming out werent upto the mark and focus have to be shifted back to red ball cricket. Now everything looks fancy and they are apparently spoilt for choices.

Babar and Rizwan are not timid by any means.

Babar is a huge huge upgrade over Misbah and Inzamam who destroyed the culture of our cricket by introducing the nice boy approach.

As far as aggression us concerned, Shaheen, Naseem, Shadab, Hassan Ali are all very aggressive and can respond to the oppositions sledges. Unfortunately none of them are in the current team due to injuries or lack of form.

A full strength Pakistan team should have won this series 2-1 in my opinion. They almost won the first two tests. Shaheen will destroy them with Abrar.

I will still take this team over Misbah's UAE only winners.

I think we need Andrew Tate as head coach of Pakistan

Also these so called alpha males failed to win a single WC match against India or win the CT. Apart from the 1992 WC they so not have a single ICC trophy to their name

Misbah has single handedly destroyed the pakistan cricket culture and rameez is continuing it.

We are happy to settle for draws
Scoring a 50 is like a big achievement

There is no aggression or confidence
Our cricket is all scripted and we don't know how to play according to situation

To succeed in international sport you need to have competitiveness. How that manifests itself can be through many things the “virtue signalling parade” don’t like.

Arrogance, Budtameezi, Paranoia, narcisissm etc etc.

You need these things to be a successful sportsman.

There was even an analysis of the Argentinian side in this World Cup that they have embraced this belief that everyone is against them and conspiring that they lose early. It may have been misplaced but it propelled them to play out of their skins.

No, they lack skill

Close.

But the reality is they lack IQ and intelligence.

You can have all the skill in the world ( Junior Akmal for example) or all the so called aggression ( Andre Nel) but if you have no intelligence then you will not have long term success in cricket.

Yeah, but it can be argued that too is a skill that can be gained by hard work. If junior Akmal had given more thought on learning the strategy of the sport than eating grapes, he might have had the intelligence too.

If you keep putting yourself in situation where you come across the same situations (playing a lot of matches or practicing likes it’s a real match) you’ll develop the understanding of doing what in that situation.

I don't think so, Pak are losing matches because of injuries & lack of talent/application.

You can have the best team in the world ie the 70's and 80's WI team or the Australian team from 1998 to 2007, they will not win if they are led by sheep like Babar Azam and Saqlain Mushtaq.
