There is a new thing going on currently and that is professional eating.

Due to advancement of internet (particularly YouTube), more and more people are taking up this ridiculous activity. Basically, these people take up random restaurant challenges (big meals) and post these on YouTube to make money.

I find this activity morally wrong because there are many poor and homeless people worldwide who would love to eat these foods. Furthermore, eating that much is never good for health.

Thoughts?

It is among the most disgusting and immoral activities one can indulge in.

One must take from nature only what one needs, and not in excess. Stuffing oneself with food simply to gain fame or just because one can afford to is the worst form of cruelty against nature and mankind.

I just cannot stand these silly shows that promote gluttony and over-indulgence.

I find you posting this thread morally wrong because the money that you could have spent on feeding a poor person, you are wasting that on buying data for Internet to write some words on a random forum.

Turn the glass of judgement towards yourself and you'll see the same level of hypocrisy.

LOL. Not even a comparison. Food costs way more than data.

Why don't you go join them? Eat 10,000 calories a day and see what happens.

Gluttony is never a great thing.

We should call out bad practices in our society so that we save people.

There are some stupid teenagers who were eating Tide pods. Many of them died and/or got really sick. Just one example.

I don't see much difference between eating Tide pods and being a professional eater.

It's like any other "sport" or "art", it's no more morally wrong than sportsmen and weighlifters eating an astronomical amount of food that could feed a village in africa.

If you really want to criticize, then you can criticize on damage it imparts on the body. That would have been valid since it isn't just an opinion rather medically proven fact.

But the amount of $ you have spent on data, however small it may be, it will be enough to feed one kid in India or Bangladesh.

Are you doing it? No.

We all are hypocrites. Hence, the religion teaches us NOT to judge others since we aren't perfect ourselves.

As long as they are not wasting food...it is not a problem. Some people love food.

A lot of the time they can't finish the foods. It goes to waste. Also, I have once seen one such eater eating 25,000 calories in 1 day! That's dangerous for any person.

Actually, these professional eaters eat much more than sportsmen or weight lifters.

I used to be active on a major workout/bodybuilding forum and I have seen their diets. It is nothing like what these professional eaters eat. Also, bodybuilders eat nutritious foods. These professional eaters eat junk foods.

One more point I want to do add is, people are looking to copy these folks. So, we are ending up with more and more professional eaters.

It is not just about morality. It is also bad if you think about environment, animal welfare, and negative health impacts.

Forget about the morality part for a second. I wasn't only referring to morality (that's one aspect). Think about the affects on environment, animal welfare, and health of these eaters.

If you really cared about these professional eaters, you would support stopping these ridiculous activities. It is not good for their health. They eat so much junk foods during these contents and they do it day in and day out. I feel any restaurant who does this type of contest should be sued for putting lives in danger.

How many animals get needlessly killed to have these eating contests? There is a contest in Texas called 72 oz steak challenge. Hundreds of people try this and most fail to finish. All these meats probably go to waste.

Nobody is perfect but we should call out harmful and ridiculous activities.

Just stumbled upon a video on YouTube where the eater consumed 50,000 calories in 1 day. I then stumbled upon another video where another eater did a "50,000 calories challenge". It is mindboggling.

There are many people who can't afford 3 meals a day and yet these losers are wasting foods like spoiled brats.

This type of channel should be banned from YouTube and these people should be fined for promoting gluttony/wasting foods.
