Recently I was watching an uncut press conference held in liverpool to hype the David Haye v Tony Bellew fight this weekend; in all my years watching these press conferences I've never seen fans behave in such a despicable manner.

Having a little bit of banter is fine but they'd hurl racist abuse towards David Haye and attack his family; it certainly riled him up to the point where he resorted to school level insults but I've never seen him so angry before but it would be understandable when his colour and family were being abused.

What bothered me though was that David Haye was painted as the bad guy to come out of the press conference, Tony Bellew would ask him to tone it down because there are "children" in the crowd, perhaps they really were children mentally given their behaviour; besides who in their right mind would bring children to a place like that? Tony Bellew had been swearing earlier during that press conference himself before taking the morale high ground.

Is this a Liverpool problem? there fans generally have the worst reputation across all the other football teams as well, I thought Birmingham City fans were moronic but Liverpool fans are just on another level.

Junaids what do you think?

tbh this type of "banter" from scousers is quite common where they act in an uncouth and uncivilised way. But you get this a lot with footie fans i think the fans in attendance were probably drunk and this type of obnoxious behaviour is common from fans like that. Whether Scousers are more racist or not idk they are generally very left wing and pro Labour in their politics but there arent a high percentage of minorities in Liverpool.

Strange one. Liverpool football used to have a reputation for racism a couple of decades ago, Everton and Liverpool were amongst the last of the leading English clubs to field a black player. I had assumed that was all in the past though, I am surprised to hear that someone like Haye would be subjected to racial abuse in the current era. But there again, it does seem Brexit has given some of the closet racists the impression that it's okay to vent openly now.

I don't think they'd have been allowed in to that press conference in such a drunk state but I agree that such behaviour is typical when alcohol is abused but still no excuse, in this particular instance the folk who resorted to bigotry were entirely sober. That's true as well, their politics might be to the left but that still hasn't seemed to limit their capacity for bigotry which you find on both sides of the political spectrum at times

Adil_94 Cpt. Rishwat it's worth pointing out that there were many Everton supporters there given that is the team which Tony supports religiously

That could be an inspiration for their behaviour, we've seen a rise of such incidents in the aftermath

They are the most impolite folks I have met in England.

I don't like their accent either, and neither does 'me' Mum.

You support that team don't you? have you ever attended a football game at anfield? wonder how you found it lol

Yes let's label an entire group of people based on the supposed crimes of a small minority. Very grown up and mature attitude.

I support Arsenal. No haven't watched a match at Anfield, but I do appreciate their passion for football. Easily the best fans in England in my opinion.

I've no idea about the boxing crowds there, I don't follow it. You get your louts and drunkards in every crowd really. The Brits can't handle a drink.

The worst sporting fans in England are those that frequent Arsenal Fan TV who can't complete a coherent sentence without the words "fam", "blud" or "Wenger out".

If we're talking racism, Stoke, Millwall and West Ham fans in the 70s, 80s and 90s were appalling. If you were an ethnic minority - you stayed away from The Den and Upton Park. Loads of National Front types outside the ground. Chelsea wasn't great either. I can imagine many of them voting UKIP these days.

There used to be casual racism on the Kop at Anfield like at many English grounds but that changed when John Barnes came. If you check out YouTube compilations of John Barnes - monkey chants were loud and clear at some away grounds when he was on the ball. There's the famous picture of him kicking away a banana at Goodison Park.

Yes, they are some of the worst. I've no doubt about that, also don't understand what some of them are saying.

Don't we have a member here who calls himself Anfield Red? If he reads this thread he'll be needing a hair transplant like Wayne Rooney. :sharif

Of course, meanwhile Manchester Utd fans are :littleang

To be fair they are better behaved then Birmingham City fans.

Top 2 list of most well behaved fans:

1. Aston Villa

2. Manchester United

Top 2 list of fans who are very naughty:

1. Liverpool/Everton

2. Birmingham City (tempted to put these idiots at no.1)

Really ? No Millwall, Chelsea or West Ham on the list ?

I think shaz619 is still salty about the 6-0 last year :P

Boxing crowds are fine, they are similar to footy fans when they get a bit drunk but at press conferences when everyone is sober you don't get much trouble unless you are in Liverpool not ever seen anything quiet like that! I can't post the uncut press conference here so you'll have to look up IFL TV's video channel

I don't really watch Milwall :mv think they have an overly bad reputation because of that little kid and his mother :)) What 6-0, I can't remember :yk

Such a ridiculous fight!! What were they thinking putting bellew in against haye?

Money, it will draw a fair amount of buys; a big name in Haye vs a guy who just won a world title at CW. Bellew had no where else to go, this is probably the biggest fight available for him in terms of money so it was a no brainer for him although his brain is a severe risk of being damaged emphatically. For Haye, it's a low risk high reward fight so you can't say no to that plus he has been out for a long time this will be a good warm up for him in terms of getting ready for a big occasion down the line.

Yeah good money for both. And an easy fight for haye which will pay him very well. But surely you have to think about bellews health lol..a cruiserweight against one of the hardest punching heavyweights. Speed, power, defense, boxing skill...all things haye has an advantage in. Hope bellew doesn't get seriously hurt. Lol seen Eddie Hearn saying the winner can fight AJ down the line (this was a few months ago). Imagine AJ vs Bellew 😂😂😂😂😂

Liverpool has the oldest black community in England and Everton was originally the Irish Catholics club

When I lived in England I used to go to all Arsenal away games and big games in London. Arsenal's home support is an absolute shambles, like Markhor said, while the away support was alright. The best home-teams were usually the mid-table clubs. Anfield on my 10 odd visits was poor, other than the YNWA sing-along at the start.

So many football memories, being there at 8-2 as well (:)) ) I could write a book.

Liverpool has a reputation of a racist city. I have some friends from Liverpool and they recall a lot of racism when growing up. Boxing will unfortunately attracts such people. I saw the press conference, Haye was the calmer one but once he started to be abused , he lost the plot a little.

However if you visit Anfield to watch a live PL or European match, you will see the atmosphere is second to none.

I agree with you bro, at first was like am glad this annoying Bellew is going to get KO'd given his behaviour in the build up to this fight but now am just starting to get really worried and scared, am seriously worried something bad might happen (Haye has been saying things like he can do what he likes legally for 36 mins and that Bellew should enjoy his final moments) never have I seen him so angry before and Bellew has done a good job getting under his skin more then any other fighter with his constant low blows. God willing both come out the fight healthy. If Bellew think his antics will play into his hands at fight night then he's in for a rude awakening because Haye thrives in grudge matches he loves them and they tend to bring out the best in him.

A promoter like Eddie only cares for $$$$$ he doesn't give a damn about the health of his fighters, he stuck Kell Brook in with GGG who damaged kells eye socket and it could have been a lot worse were it not for the corner strategically throwing that towel in which had been planned. Eddie hopes and expects a Haye win, because in doing so he'd have bough much needed attention to David Haye in terms of reminding us of his star power and punching power with the show-reel KO of Bellew amongst the fans in the UK in order to set up a big fight with Anthony Joshua down the line.

I never seen any other city behave like that, it's more to do with a Liverpool thing then the sport of Boxing itself; they are just generally very naughty. In fact they are on par with Indian cricket fans if not worse. I'd never go Anfield, ewwww; nothing compares to Edgbaston and Villa Park greatest stadiums in the world :yk Actually maybe I should open a thread on British Indians, I recall them coming out with abuse worse then Scouser Standards towards Moeen Ali; it may have been discussed on PP already during that time.

I think the area used was small and the crowd was a little close. One thing for sure, Haye is furious, his interview today with talksport was hilarious, talking about breaking spines when he used to play rugby. :))

Edgbaston is brilliant with a full house, whether it's tests, ODI or T20. Villa Park used to be a great stadium to watch football, 45,000 made Villa fans. I wouldn't go there atm, all you will hear is the ball being thumped into the back of the Villa net :yk

:yk maybe we need to get relegated a couple of leagues down more and perhaps we will begin to compete and even then that's not guaranteed :yk3 The support is bizzare lmao the fans never give up on supporting them luloos, we need a manager like Mickey Arther to get the danda out.

Am really worried, Haye has implied that he literally wants to end Bellew permanently; when you look at what has been said you get the anger but man no one wants to see that. I just PRAY that when push comes to shove that Coldwell swallows his pride and throws in the towel, tbh I think it will be premeditated because you can't risk someones life like that. It would be shocking for it to turn into a Rocky 4 scenario

Its a real shame one of the biggest clubs in England going down the toilet faster than blue toilet :duck

Haye is a master of bringing publicity. Look at how he got Vlad to fight him, going around saying he will chop his head off. No doubt he won't want to lose this one but I can't see him getting carried away once the bell sounds, he will line him up and see how Bellew's defences. I'm predicting a round 4 stoppage, the ref will see Tony not defending himself enough and stop the bout.

I support Arsenal. No haven't watched a match at Anfield, but I do appreciate their passion for football. Easily the best fans in England in my opinion.

For me it's the Crystal Palace fans. They have not much to cheer about compared to Liverpool but are just as loud and sing throughout the game even when they were losing. At 3-0 down last season against Chelsea, Selhust Park had a great atmosphere and I was pleasantly surprised by that when watching the game.

Saying Scousers are the worst across all of sport is a bit of an exaggeration. I'd say they aren't even the worst in England, Millwall are really bad and had trouble even recently with the FA Cup game against Leicester. Zenit by far in-terms of sport are the worst, they are the most discriminative and disgusting bunch of fans I've ever seen.

I got the order a little wrong but Indians in general are the worst sporting fans, then I'd say British Indians and then Scousers. Millwall and Bham city are definitely poorly behaved as well although being small clubs their antics don't get as much attention. In Boxing I've watched press conferences across the country but man that was something else, they need some treatment tbh

Easily the worst IMO, no wonder Highbury was known as The Library. In terms of home support, Turkish league is great and of course, BVB.

The Emirates was worse. Complete waste of money.

Their behaviour probably stems from frustration with regards to their failed EPL campaign over the years, Scousers I think are just down right awful people; would never go Liverpool, makes me feel a bit ill thinking about it.
Nothing to do with ''failed'' campaigns. The home support from most top clubs is dire because of tourists/glory hunters/much more ''family'' orientated day out than say Milwall. Any match we'd stand/use colorful language we'd have the stewards in our ear.

When City were dross their home support was good, however as soon as they started getting oil money the amount of glory hunting fans filling their ground turned it sour. I saw this change myself gradually, going to City was great fun especially when we sold them Adebayor. Since then its just as bad as other top clubs.

Waste of money as in going in and watching Arsenal*

Talking about horrible support, Roma defender Rudiger suffered racial abuse in the Rome Derby at the hands of Lazio fans.

I've never really had much experience with British Indians as surprising as that may sound so I don't know about that. I agree with you on the rest though.

Generally they are fine and a bit more normal then the ones from the subcontinent but when they have a bit of anonymity or in large numbers they tend to behave a lot worse then any other sporting fans, I had friends attend some games during India's tour of England in 2013 and Moeen Ali's colour, ethnicity and religion were abused. In fact they probably behaved a lot worse then folk in the subcontinent, Moeen has not had any issues when he toured there recently.

We all know what the Scousers are like, I can't really talk though given that my local team is Leeds United.

British Indians just seem more bitter than the rest, pathetic stuff to abuse Moeen like that.

I like Scousers - although it helps that I'm from the blue side of Manchester.

They probably don't get the blame that they should get for the Heysel disaster, but I'm proud of their reaction to Hillsborough and the ongoing boycott of "The Sun".

When Fernando Torres swallowed his tongue the other day, the first thing I did was ring a mate of mine who's a Liverpool fan. He was as upset and distressed as I was.

Everton 96.jpg

How can you not love a city which can produce a picture like this?

Bellew v Haye 2 has been built as repeat or revenge, one thing which repeated was the vile behaviour by scousers at the press conference in Liverpool today, they have no class just like their football team fans beyond moronic hooligans with their village mob mentality; were not provoked whatsoever today but spewed pathetic insults directed at Haye which crossed the like once again just like last year when they abused his race and family. And the level of hypocrisy Bellew resorts to is incredibly hilarious, he is the favourite over a past his prime and injury prone Haye but I hope he is brutally knocked out.

Why would anyone want to waste their time watching these two talk or fight? Both are mugging off everyone , whether it's scoucers or brummies, turning boxing into some sort of joke.

It is humiliating to see Haye one of the all time great cruserweights and a british great oblige someone like Bellew, it's sad because you never want to see fighters who were invincible go on longer then they need to; we all know Tony wouldn't last 60 seconds against Haye 10 years ago. But I thought the folk at the presser in Liverpool today would be a bit more respectful but it was pathetic the way they were behaving. It's on PPV mainly due to Haye's star power, he's still a huge draw; always felt he and the likes of Khan don't get enough credit for their careers overall because casuals tend to get fixated on the defeats.

KingKhanWC If Bellew is stretchered out the arena every penny of that 19.99 would be worth it to be fair

Haye was a good cruiserweight but since moving to heavywieght he's only there to mug off the British public for money. Remember the chopping off heads against WK and his brother? All this trash talk which imo crossed the line led to humiliation when he entered the ring. I dont mind seeing fights being one sided when both opponents give it their all and go for the win but Haye knew before the first bell he is only there to run around for 45 mins and get the cheque. Tony Bellow in another era would be laughed at in the HW division but he beat Haye and is now making money again with the re-match. If Haye wins, which he should do , I assure you there will be a third fight , another box office event where fans will be taken for a ride again.

There have been stupid behavior by fans but i think it's all part of the hype, they probably planted these fans to make the fight bigger as I believe the box office sales are not expected to come in as they may have thought.

:)) Maybe you'r right .

But there is more chance of David Haye not having an injury for the next 10 years!

Haye became the undisputed lineal champ at cruserweight, one high profile bad defeat shouldn't define his career and lets be real he severely under-performed in that fight but Wlad deserves immense credit for getting the win as well. One of his best wins at HW was over Chisora, no one has ever dealt with Del Boy so brutally and this is a guy coming from CW, he displayed how explosive and slick he could be just as he was at CW but after that fight his body kept letting him down and fights with Fury were cancelled but he still became champion at that weight and that deserves respect although overall it's more of a case of what could have been rather then getting a definite picture but I rate everything he has done in Boxing.

They could easily have staged something a lot more controversial if it was to create hype like Chisora flipping a table but I doubt those hundreds of fans spewing rubbish were plants, they behave the same way no matter where they go. I doubt we will get a third fight if Haye wins, he will probably try and use the momentum gained from the win to get a fight with AJ but am not sure he will win given how injury prone he is and he may say he is fit but I don't believe it, Haye is never 100% at this stage of his career

Probably :))

I wont get this on PPV but will watch it at a shisha lounge, order a steak or something and watch Bellew get beat up on the side inshaAllah :inzi

As I said I respect what he did in the crusierweight division but in the HW he hasnt done much. Yes he beat up Del badly and no disrespect to Del as he gives his heart and soul everytime he fights, but is not close to a world champion at all. I used to support him until the WK fight where he didn't go to win at all and blamed his toe after the fight. Even with 2 toes working fully he wouldnt have caused any problems for WK. Then we have Fury who although fighting an older WK, schooled a future hall of famer.

Its may be just me Im getting sick of boxing turning into a money making drama . It's good we still see some great fights in the US though.

The division in general was weak then but Del went the distance with Vitali who is a big puncher and gave Lennox Lewis hell yet Haye dealt with him emphatically, like I said it was a poor performance but shouldn't define him; plus that win really elevated Wlad's legacy because he was facing an extremely dangerous opponent who should have done better but very few were able to even go the distance with Wladmir. He learned from toe gate, had a genuine reason to make an excuse for the Bellew defeat but hasn't bought it up even once and given Tony full credit.

Fury was physically bigger then Haye and had the reach advantage plus with his skill just too much for Wlad, very few will ever boast a win of Fury's magnitude and it was going to be a challenge for Haye to begin with moving up but he was still a threat, but it doesn't hurt his legacy in my opinion but these days fans always define you by your last fight or defeat, with AK it was Canelo/Garcia and Haye the Wlad fight when these two combined have beaten the likes of Maidana, Judah, Alexander, Kotelnik, Malignagi, Jean-Marc Mormeck, Maccarinelli, Barett, Ruiz and DC; you look at the resume's of other fighters active or inactive from our country and they have maybe 1 or 2 good wins with the rest being domination over journeyman.

This is typical matchroom they tend to sell a spectacle with some decent fights here and there, away from the UK you tend to get decent match ups though like Linares / Lomachenko which is the biggest fight of the year in my opinion

No they are not. They do however have a tendency to put their foot in their mouth. Always in the wrong place at the wrong time. I fear Liverpool's visit to Roma on Wednesday could trigger something off as well.
