For example. Learning a new skill?
 
Good thread.

Apart from office work, I started working on few Kaggle data sets on Machine learning.
But I am wasting my time on useless discussion, cant resist to reply:acp
 
Trying to keep the business going from home...

It’s a struggle but doing nothing is not an option.
 
I secured new employment, I guess that falls under "being productive".... however, start date is delayed due to corona.


As you can imagine working from home and not even being at the current job for much longer my motivation level is in negative. I'm taking afternoon naps these days lol.
 
More time to read and spend time with my family.

Still boring to not be able to go out and meet friends and acquaintances.

Your interview process was during the lockdown?
 
Working remotely. More connected now then before. It seems the workday gets blended in. Used to be you could switch off after 5-6p. Now you just walk around for a while come back to your "office" and keep on working.

A bit of both.... Ontario only saw major lockdowns in the last two weeks. The interview process has been going on for a month. So the final interviews were over the phone/Skype.

I am from non tech background and my skills are limited to Excel, basic SQL and some macros. Planning to learn a new language (preferably Python) which might help me in future. But as they say planning something and executing it are two different things. And I am honestly being guilty of being lazy lately. Maybe I need to spend less time at online forums and focus more on study :))
 
I learned currency trading (forex) during this break. I actually made 45% profit with my virtual account. I am also practicing coding. It hasn't been bad so far.

I’m in finance (banking). My university has made python online course free for current students and normally you pay $1000 for the course. I was wondering if there is any value add for me to take that course? Thoughts? Will it ever be of use to anyone of a comp sci background

Wont be much to trade at this rate

Maybe do a course on trading bags of barley and wheat...

If your university is offering it as a free course then definitely. Learning a coding language will always add value to your cv. Also I heard Python is relatively easier to learn compare to Java/C++ etc since it handle lots of complexity.
 
I dont know but if reading books is considered as a productive activity. I am meaning to learn python but now my university has decided to conduct lectures online and aissign us various written assignments so in a week or so my plate will be very full. However, it wil be my first time doing everything online and without in -person interaction with the professors. For me , it is very impersonal and also the fact that I can not have my questions answered right away as is the case in normal lecture classes I don't know how I would fare.

AI in finance and Fintech are huge fields, but mostly engineers/comp sci background folks are hired in it and then taught finance. However, if a finance guy like yourself has the requisite skills then you immediately become very valuable. Python is the main language used in this field. It is very easy to learn as well if you know how computer logic works its almost like writing English.

It was a virtual account. I had a bit of fun. Took high risks.

40%+ profit so far.

Focused on USD/CAD pair. CAD value went down and I made profit.

Would love to try real trading now.

I started off with $100,000 in virtual currency. I now have over $145,000.
 
The trial accounts can often hook a person in because you're less likely to lose all your funds if it is a high amount. I recommend you try to lose a lot of money first on the trial account and then work on it properly with the amount of money you would invest if you was doing it for real.

You are right. I need to experiment more.

I am quite clueless about most currency pairs but I am a bit more informed when it comes to USD/CAD pair. All of my trades have been with that pair.

I am still learning and this Coronavirus break is giving me more free time to do this.
 
Decided to spend my free time putting on weight. Already half a stone heavier. :inzi

When this is over, it will be a lot fun working out. :)
 
Playing Warzone on Call of Duty. So far have managed to finish twice and 3rd earlier (out of 150 players), so hoping a win is just around the corner.
