They have been playing an incredible amount of cricket travelling all over the world with no significant breaks in this Covid bubble world, and now the IPL!

How do these guys sustain their bodies and more importantly how do their prepare mentally?

If this continues than I can easily some test cricket retirements of some of the big guns which will not be good for the game.

Apart from the fact that they have achieved more than any other Asian Test team in history, their resilience and intensity are also major contributors to their status as the GOAT Asian Test team.

Most other sides would be dead after 13-14 Tests against Australia, England and New Zealand in a short period of time, that too with most of the matches away from home.

However, they are still on top of their fame. Not only the most talented and skilled, but also the fittest, focused and gutsiest Asian team ever.

All credit goes to the GOAT Asian Test captain Kohli. He has transformed and the culture and mentality of Indian cricket. He has built on the resurgence that started under Ganguly and taken it up a notch.

This is an incredible era for Indian cricket and hopefully the next generation will be able to sustain this brilliance.

The Indian cricketers are not allowed to get tired and take rest. The benchmark that has been set is very high for them.

A few of our deluded Indian fans think that the Indian cricketers, especially fast bowlers are like donkeys so they need to keep running and not take rest in between the matches. According to them, all the fame and poularity are only allowed to our Indian batsman while bowlers if they need rest, should not play IPL and stay fit for international cricket otherwise we will call them mercenary.

Even before there are news of them taking a rest for the next match, they start nitpicking and accusing them while claiming that the bowler in question, say Bumrah, won't skip IPL but continue taking rest in between the home test series.

They lack the basic common sense (or rather pretend that they lack it) that it is not feasible for fast bowlers to play every single match like batsman ( except few rare cases) and they will need a bit of rest to bring out their best spells.

It is taking a tole on their bodies.

As we have seen of late, Indian cricketers were complaining about the lack of rest days between Tests, plus Indians are forbidden from playing other franchise leagues.

More and more Indian players are getting injured and need rest proportionally to other teams.

Jhandu bham can only work to an extent.

Excellent post.

Most of such fans whine and moan about IPL and ironically they don't even follow domestic cricket at all. most of them were against Bumrah's selection in tests and now he has won more overseas tests than any other Indian bowler.

TBH we don't have many big guns. We have a strong unit filled having good players and strong depth.

And I don't see any of them retiring soon in tests. Most of them will get replaced or retire from other formats first to prolong their test careers.

Your statement is factually false. Only Virat Kohli is busiest cricketer from India. Root, Moeen, Angelo, Stuard Broad have played more cricket than other Indian cricketers in the last decade.

2020 and 2021 has been COVID hit mostly, so number of days of cricket played by Indian cricketers is very less. In fact, India's test specialists, Cheteshwar, Rahane, Vihari, Ishant etc. have not played much cricket because domestic cricket has not happened since last 2 years.

So, What are you talking about ? Don't worry about Indian cricketers. BCCI knows how to take care of them.

It's crazy how much non stop cricket they play than any other nation. They've been in a bubble for a long time and after a short break in England, they'll re enter the bubble in UAE.

I genuinely think Kohli's decline has something to do with the non stop cricket he plays. Sachin played till 39 I think, I highly doubt if Kohli will be able to play till 35 at a good level.

It is with respect to playing continuous cricket within the bubble due to COVID.

Root, Stokes and Broad part from previous decade has nothing to do with it.

Since September 2020, Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah and Pant have played so many cricket that it will have an effect on their mental health. Fortunately, the likes of Shami got the much needed break due to injury, Bhuvi is focussing only on LOIs and Siraj is focussing only on Tests.

Agreed on Kohli. The only way I see him regaining back his old best is to take a few months break from all forms of the game.

Even if we consider 2020 and 2021 in the data, still except Kohli and Rohit rest of the Indian players have had a break.
Even Kohli left Australia tour and had a break of close to 2 months between December 2020 and March 2021. And today players are different. Kohli/Rohit and other players take breaks whenever they need as their positions are secure within the team and they skip a series or 2 against weaker teams

It is completely different for other teams.. E.g.For Pakistan Shaheen Afridi has been consistently playing cricket and going from Bubble to Bubble.

Indians have a great rotation policy. Jasprit Bumrah rarely plays any random ODI & T20 series ( rightly so )

Well I would have thought that Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah & Pant are the big guns? One or more of these absolutely most certainly fires in every game for India.

I would really like to understand what sort of science they are using to keep these players fit both physically and mentally.

Ravi Shastri needs a mention here. He is doing something spectacular and different.

Bumrah and Pant have played as much cricket as Rohit and Kohli since September 2020. Bumrah played 3 tests in Aus, 2 vs ENG and 5 in Eng, he also played LOI series vs Aus and think the LOI series vs England too, and also both the IPLs. Pant has been playing all three formats since the Boxing Day 2020 and he also played the IPL before that and in between got infected to COVId. Not easy for them. Others have managed to take gaps but that also is because of injury which doesn't exactly mean rest from a mental point of view.

How many games and how many competitive away tests vs top teams did Shaheen played?

Respect

I love cricket and I wish I got to play as regularly as they do as pro athletes. Indian cricketers are living the dream

They want to earn as much money as possible in a short span of time. They are not looking after their health and fitness both physically and mentally. Some of them will get exhausted especially Kohli. I have been saying for so many years that Kohli should give himself a break during IPL season and same with Bumrah. Bumrah got injured in IPL before our last England tour and that had an impact on the series outcome. Thankfully Pyjama League got cancelled this time and Bumrah got enough rest before England tour and he was available for selection right from the first test. :inti

They are getting paid it is their responsibility to stay fit and work hard. It is not a right to play for your country it is a privilege imagine how many players get a chance to play for their country. The Indian board is rich hires the best coaching staff and trainers so yeah this question should not be asked.

India can easily implement a two to the different squad approach to keep testing their bench strength

Actually Indian players were more stretched before Covid. There used to be a bilateral series ever other month. But due to bio bubble now, the matches are quite spaced out. I mean this year we played:

2 tests in Australia

Then 5 tests at home againts England where only 2 venues were considered (less travelling)

IPL

Then a break before WTC Final

Then players got 1.5 months break before England tests. There was also 10 days break between test 2 & 3.

In pre covid era, taking 1.5 month in a season was unimaginable. BCCI would have clubbed 2 LOI bilateral tour in that period.

People question Jimmy’s longevity.

No secret, he focused on 1 format.

If SRT was playing all 3 formats since 16 (assuming T20 was around that time), then Brian Lara would be the numeral uno Test run scorer.

Aur khelo pyjama cricket.

I would like Pakistan to be that busy as well. Play different squads

It's not been non-stop for the core players if you see the number of players we've used.

Indian fans will complain of players being burnt out if India performs poorly at the coming T20 WC. Yes they play and awful amount of Cricket for sure. They should just look at their bank accounts to feel better!

They want to earn as much money as possible in a short span of time.

Which is exactly what any sensible sportsperson would try to do.

Field sports like cricket take an enormous toll on the body, and one cannot play it for a long time. Most cricketers begin their careers in their early 20s, and retire by the late 30s. This is an extremely short career of about 16-18 years, during which time they have to earn enough to sustain themselves for the rest of their lives and provide for their families. Some cricketers get to things like coaching or commenting but the vast majority of them do nothing after their retirement from the game.
It is only natural for players to play as much as possible during this short career span, and save as much money as possible. India is not a 'cheap' place to live in any longer.

Don't know about the Indian Tesm but for a change would want to see the Pakistan players complain about too much game, demanding a break. With the current state of PCB affairs, don't think it's ever gonna happen though

They are playing a ridiculous amount of cricket. It has to take it's tole eventually.

it is for all format players like Kohli,Bumrah,Pant,Jadeja etc.

Pant is the only who's played all the games. I'll give you that.

Jadeja was out of the England tour of India due to injury.

Bumrah opted out of the ODI/T20 leg of the England tour of India

Kohli played 1 test in Australia only.
