GUWAHATI: Assam health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the state government is working on a plan to reserve seats for students from Myanmar and Bhutan in state's medical colleges to boost ties with the two neighbouring countries.
The minister said about 20 to 25 seats in state's medical colleges will also be kept for students from other NE states as well. The move comes after MBBS students from Meghalaya were denied admission in Assam's medical colleges following changes in admission rules.
The 2017 rules have done away with the 13 seats under North Eastern Council (NEC) quota. Earlier, out of 13 seats under NEC quota, 10 were allotted to Meghalaya and one each to Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland. "I am going to write to all the chief ministers of NE states to avail the seats in the medical colleges," said Sarma.
He added that over 12,000 posts of teachers will be created in the state under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Mission and appointment of about 10,000 teachers will start from this month.

Very poor move. The average Indian student has to battle reservations on the inside, and foreign quotes from the outside.
I don't suppose there are seats reserved in Myanmar universities for Assamese or other Indians?
