GUWAHATI: Assam health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the state government is working on a plan to reserve seats for students from Myanmar and Bhutan in state's medical colleges to boost ties with the two neighbouring countries.

The minister said about 20 to 25 seats in state's medical colleges will also be kept for students from other NE states as well. The move comes after MBBS students from Meghalaya were denied admission in Assam's medical colleges following changes in admission rules.

The 2017 rules have done away with the 13 seats under North Eastern Council (NEC) quota. Earlier, out of 13 seats under NEC quota, 10 were allotted to Meghalaya and one each to Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland. "I am going to write to all the chief ministers of NE states to avail the seats in the medical colleges," said Sarma.

He added that over 12,000 posts of teachers will be created in the state under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Mission and appointment of about 10,000 teachers will start from this month.

Very poor move. The average Indian student has to battle reservations on the inside, and foreign quotes from the outside.

I don't suppose there are seats reserved in Myanmar universities for Assamese or other Indians?

are there unis in these random states which well off kids from delhi or mumbai would consider going to?

Since this is strictly about medical colleges, Assam Medical University has a bit of a name in the state in question.

What do you mean by Random states?

Guwahati Medical College is a fine one so is the regional institute of medical science in Imphal. My friends have studied in these two places so i know about them.

Delhi or Mumbai residents will likely take admission in colleges of their region or some pvt college in Karnataka. While someone from the East will take admission in eastern colleges and not move to Mumbai or western India

random states would basically mean states which non-indians wouldnt know

an average pakistani likely knows about UP, Delhi, Punjab, perhaps Maharashtra (would know mumbai), bengal and bihar

average non-subcontinental person would likely not know beyond delhi, mumbai and if they know a bit then bengal and maharashtra.

so all other states besides these would be random states i what i meant.
