[AUDIO] "Pink Ball cricket is the future but I dont think the playing field is even" : Mickey Arthur

Pakistan Head Coach Mickey Arthur speaking :

"It was a tough day yesterday (Day 2) and the boys learnt a few lessons about playing cricket outside the sub-continent, particularly for the young batsmen"

"We played well in the early part of the day as we cameback well and bowled better lines and so I was quite pleased"

"Then you have a last wicket stand which takes momentum away from you and then you need to start batting under lights"

"We need to help the guys believe in themselves; if we have guys with 10,000 runs second guessing their techniques then we are in trouble"

"We have to get through this period and then discuss for the game in Melbourne but we need to make them believe (in themselves)"

"We have spoken about style of play at Brisbane; In the sub-continent you defend by by staying leg-side of the ball and then opening your wrists which clearly doesn't work here as you end up nicking it"

"So much as we train it and practice it, the first default mechanism is to go back to what they know"

"One can only hope that we can outline this and give them video footage before the next game so they know where the angles are and where we want them to play it"

"We've done it in training ad-nauseam but its a different thing doing it in training and then repeating it out in the middle"

"They are an experienced batting group and I would have thought that they would have gone back and done some soul searching and hopefully the penny's dropped for them"

"Going into the second innings, we have to give them the belief right now and then reassess before going into Melbourne"

"That's when we have to do the hard work and also have the hard chats, and challenge them"

"I don't think we can do that right now as they go into the second innings, all we need to do is give them the belief so that they can play in this game"

"We have a bowling attack which is quite balanced and we have guys who are specialists in all areas"

"We have Imran Khan who bowls well on wickets with a lot of grass on it and I wouldn't be out of line to say that he doesn't have the pace to bowl on wickets here"

"I always have doubts about Sohail Khan's comeback abilities; his first spell is very good, his second spell is OK, his third spell is tough and then you don't get anything more which puts pressure on others"

"We selected our three best fast-bowlers for this game"

"I would be lying if we didn't have a look at the Australian side; they have 7 left-handers, if we could get swing from left-arm to left-handers then we would be fine"

"We should have come round the wicket to Handscomb lot earlier than we did, particularly Wahab as he has pace and he can line-up his middle & off stump, and not allow him free zones and cut the ball away"

"Yes we spoke about this and we trained him; Both Wahab and Amir come round the wicket exceptionally well"

"This isnt an even playing field ; When one side walks out to bat in glorious batting conditions at 1 pm then its a totally different ball game as opening up at 6 or 6:30 pm, so there are still issues around that definitely"

"There was no difference in Dubai when we played Pink Ball and I was surprised when they had it in Gabba as that is one place it would make a difference"

"Pink Ball cricket is the future but I dont think the playing field is even"

"I have seen Misbah do it time and time again and YK is a complete professional"

"I would be lying to say that there is a little doubt in my mind but I had that doubt in England and I saw YK come out and play exceptionally well, albeit against a different attack, so I am backing him for the time-being"

This is about as detailed as it gets from Mickey - lots of points to discuss

He makes excellent points regarding our fast bowlers. Clearly he has concerns and if they were presented to Inzimam why did he not offer another option?

Clearly seems unhappy regarding the prep time our players had but that is not a good enough excuse for such a sorry display. They need to sort themselves out ASAP.

Some of the questions about team selection answered there but my concern is why was Sohail Khan taken on the tour?

Also it appears that changing techniques for Australia were discussed but not implemented and the issue of spending long enough in Aus before this series is one which should have resulted in heads rolling in Pak

Unfortunately we will be happy with a PSL with Justin Bieber playing there - Pak cricket will move on.

I think if Pakistan had batted first and scored 400 (which was unlikely) and reverse had happened, he wouldn't have mentioned the playing field.

So WHY on earth did you take Sohail and Imran (who we all know are POOOR) to AUS!?!?!?!

For a free tour?? Paid vacation? And let the side lose?

It's all on Mickey Arthur. And even Misbah! Why did they let Inzamam select these two geniuses??

Well lets see what Lehman says about the same question

He's right, the toss becomes too big a factor in situations like these. Not a fan of Day/Night Tests.

Umm I think it is just sour grapes from Mickey.

That's like complaining, "Oh we couldn't bowl out the side for the first 4 days of the test so we had to play on a 5th day pitch which is unfair because opposition won the toss and batted first"

I mean it was on your bowling attack to finish the tail of Australia quickly and start batting in daylight.

Honestly reading the pointers, I can see why Mickey didn't fit well. He comes across as someone who believes he is doing no wrong and he just doesn't have the resources. Openly showing no confidence in 2 of his pacers featuring on this tour, saying he has trust on YK's ability "for now". And that he's done his job of telling them how to bat in Australia, so if they fail you know its not his responsiblity.

I don't see him lasting long with Pak with that attitude.

Pink Ball cricket has been around for a few years now in Shield cricket and all the Shield players think the same.

Mitchell Johnson in particular hated it.

I'm glad Mickey Arthur understands Sohail Khan is useless due to his fitness.

Selectors need to wake up too.

This appears to be a big difference. Even when Australia was so far ahead, night time bowling was in their mind. The way Amir resisted in the afternoon, that worried Smith, he did not wanted Pakistani batsmen to have any confidence and looks during the day.

For visiting team playing in GABBA first up is tough, add batting only at night time, is little too much 😪😪😪
