I don't think Zampa even has a contract anymore. Kane Richardson is better than Hazelwood in LOIs

June 13-June 27.

Yes, Zampa doesn't have CA contract anymore. Will you go with Ashton Agar then as ODI spinner ?

Agar has done well so far and is a decent batsman too. He is the obvious pick

Cricket Australia National Selector Trevor Hohns said: “We have selected a 15-player squad as we push forward in our preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup in England in 2019.

“Obviously, these are the conditions we will face during the tournament so now is a perfect chance to give these players an opportunity to press their case for selection.”

The Cricket Australia Board has endorsed Test Captain Tim Paine as One-Day captain for this series, with Victorian Aaron Finch to act as his vice-captain.

“Tim is a strong leader and will Captain the side for this series, supported by Aaron.

“A decision on a permanent one-day captain will be made in due course,” said Hohns.

West Australian D’Arcy Short has been named in the One-Day squad for the first time.

Hohns said: “D’Arcy is relatively new to one-day cricket but impressed us with his form in T20 cricket last season.

“He brings an all-round package to the side, with strong fielding and bowling skills and we believe he will combine very well with Aaron at the top of the order.”

New South Wales’ Nathan Lyon returns to the one-day side, having last played for Australia against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2016.

“Nathan is our number one off-spinner and has excelled with the red ball, however he is not new to white ball cricket and deserves his chance to push for World Cup selection.

“England potentially have a number of left-handers in their side and we look forward to seeing what he can produce with the white-ball in English conditions.”

South Australia’s Alex Carey has been included in the side having debuted for Australia against England earlier this year.

“Alex is a very smart one-day player who can also bat anywhere in the order.

“With Tim in the side Alex will be the back-up wicket-keeper, but we believe his game is strong enough to play as a batter only.”

Test pacemen Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were unavailable for selection due to injury.

Cricket Australia Bupa Support Staff Physiotherapist David Beakley said: “Mitchell is going to undertake a pro-longed rehabilitation period for his tibial bone stress injury and we are aiming for a return to play for the Pakistan Test Series in the UAE.

“Pat is still recovering from a lumbar bone stress injury, the good news is that it has not progressed to a fracture but he still requires a period of rehabilitation with an aim for him to return to play for the Pakistan Test series along with Starc.”

The NSP have also named a 14-player T20 International squad for one game against England and the Qantas Tour of Zimbabwe following the English Tour.

The Cricket Australia Board has endorsed Aaron Finch as Captain for this series, with Alex Carey to act as his vice-Captain for this T20 International tour.

Queensland’s Jack Wildermuth and Mitchell Swepson are named in side for the first time.

National T20 Selector Mark Waugh said: “The NSP hold Jack in high regard as young player on the rise.

“He has shown excellent all-round skills at the first-class level, particularly with the ball in the Big Bash.

“We look forward to seeing what he can produce at the international level.

“Mitchell provides the Captain with good variety and wicket-taking options.

“He competes very well and deserves his chance at this level,” said Waugh.

Nic Maddinson returns to the T20I side having last played for Australia against South Africa in Sydney in 2014.

“Nic has been selected off the back of a very good Big Bash season.

“He is a very talented player and with his batting skills has the ability to be very dangerous in this format.”

South Australia’s Adam Zampa has been omitted from the one-day and T20I squads.

Hohns said: “Adam hasn’t performed to the level we would have liked in recent times and we see this as a good opportunity for other spinning options to press their case ahead of the Cricket World Cup.”

George Bailey should have been selected for odis Instead of paine.
Maddinson over Ashton turner/ben macdormett looks bad choice.

The selections of Maddinson & Wildermuth in the T20I squad are surprising.

Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch says the top job in the 50-over format was not on his mind as Australia’s selectors named Tim Paine temporary ODI skipper for the upcoming series against England.

With Steve Smith and David Warner suspended for 12 months for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, Australia’s selectors were forced to name a new one-day and T20 international captain, with Finch touted as the hot favourite to take the reins of both teams.

Instead, the selectors appointed Test captain Paine as interim ODI skipper on Tuesday for next month’s five-match Qantas Tour of England, with Finch appointed the Tasmanian’s deputy and captain of the 20-over side.

While Paine said yesterday he wants to remain in the ODI role for as long as possible with an eye on next year’s World Cup in England, Finch said he is focused first and foremost on scoring runs and helping develop Australia’s inexperienced crop of players.

“I hadn’t really ever thought about it,” Finch told cricket.com.au when asked if he wanted to be ODI captain.

“Nobody could foresee the position that Australian cricket is in now.

“It’s an interim position and I’m not exactly sure which way they’re going to look or what the long-term plan is going to be leading into the World Cup.

“It’s just being about the senior player, contributing as much as you can on and off the field to help the team grow, help young guys develop their game at international level. All senior plays play that role at some point.

“There’s not a real lot you can do if you’re not in the side.”

Check out Australia's new-look ODI squad

The ODI series against England will be the first under new coach Justin Langer, who, like Paine, has performed the role in an interim basis in the past while his predecessor Darren Lehmann was rested.

Langer was in charge of Australia’s ODI team that won a tri-series against West Indies and South Africa in the Caribbean in June 2016 and then at the back end of the 2017 home summer with the T20I side against Sri Lanka that the hosts lost 2-1.

Finch featured in those series with Langer and gave a glimpse of what he expects in the Western Australian’s first tour at the helm.

“He knows the game inside out, he’s had a lot of success as a coach,” Finch said.

“The times I’ve worked with him we’ve worked well together and really looking forward to it again.

“I don’t see things changing a hell of a lot. I think it will be very well structured.

“He said he’s pretty comfortable to sit back and observe and take it all in for the first tour and then start to implement some changes he wants to see.”

Australia's fast bowling options have taken another knock with Josh Hazlewood forced out of the trip to England with back soreness.

Hazlewood joins fellow quicks Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in missing the five one-day internationals and single T20 match against their Ashes rivals, while all-rounder Mitch Marsh is also missing.

Uncapped Queensland all-rounder Michael Neser takes Hazlewood's place in an already-inexperienced squad which is also lacking banned trio Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.

"Josh has been managing some low-level bone stress in his lumbar spine for a short period," said Cricket Australia physiotherapist David Beakley.

"He had a repeat scan and although it has not progressed to a fracture he is starting to experience some lower back pain.

"As such, we are taking a conservative approach and he will not travel to England for the one-day series."

Neser, 28, will join up with the rest of the squad in England and has so far taken 41 List A wickets in 38 games, while averaging 27.73 with the bat.

Updated Australia squads:

One-Day: Tim Paine (capt), Aaron Finch, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Travis Head, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, Michael Neser, Shaun Marsh, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, D'Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Andrew Tye.

T20: Aaron Finch (capt), Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Travis Head, Nic Maddinson, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, D'Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Swepson, Andrew Tye, Jack Wildermuth.

This will be the first time that England have played in Scotland since May 2014, when they defeated the hosts by 39 runs in Aberdeen.

England, currently ranked number one in the ODI World Rankings, defeated Australia 4-1 in a five-match series held in Australia in January.

England allrounder Ben Stokes is doubtful for the upcoming limited over series after being diagnosed with a torn hamstring. He is already missing the second Test underway between England and Pakistan at Headingley. Stokes’ place in the England side was taken by 19-year-old allrounder Sam Curran. A scan on Thursday afternoon had revealed the tear in his left hamstring.

The severity of the tear can only be ascertained after a couple of day – Stokes is likely to have another scan next week – with early signs from within England camp indicating that it is not a minor tear and he could be out of action for several weeks.

England’s limited-overs campaign starts with a one-off ODI against Scotland in Edinburgh on June 10. That will be followed by a five-match ODI series against Australia which is scheduled to begin on June 13.

Stokes picked up the injury during fielding practice on Wednesday afternoon. He did go on to bat in the nets on Thursday but did not take part in the fielding drills and limited his pre-match warm-ups to just refereeing the football match. He did undergo a series of sprints to assess his fitness on Thursday.

Curran, aged 19 years and 363 days, is the seventh youngest player to make his Test debut for England. He is also the third man aged 20 or under to make his Test debut for England this year. Mason Crane and Dom Bess, both aged 20, made their Test debuts in Sydney and Lord’s respectively while Haseeb Hameed, aged 19 years and 297 days, made his debut in India. Curran’s brother, Tom, played the last two on England’s Ashes tour.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss the ODI against Scotland in Edinburgh and will be unavailable for the first part of the five-match Royal London ODI series against Australia as he recovers from a left hamstring tear.

Stokes, who sustained the injury in the build-up to the NatWest Test match at Headingley against Pakistan, will be assessed later this week. He will continue his rehabilitation programme and will return to his county side Durham on Monday.

Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan has been added to the squad for the Scotland game on Sunday, June 10 and Kent batsman Sam Billings has been drafted into the squad for the Australia series, which gets underway at the Kia Oval on Wednesday, June 13.

England all-rounder Chris Woakes has been ruled out of Sunday's one-day international against Scotland.

The Warwickshire man has tightness in his right quad and has been replaced in the squad by Tom Curran of Surrey.

Woakes will be assessed this week to determine if he will be fit for the five-match ODI series against Australia, which gets underway on June 13.

He took four wickets in the thumping innings win over Pakistan which England wrapped up on Sunday, but only bowled six overs in the second innings and left the field at one point due to the thigh problem.

All-rounder Ben Stokes had already been ruled out of the game against Scotland in Edinburgh due to a hamstring tear and will miss out on at least the start of the Australia series.

England's win over Pakistan at Headingley ensured the series finished level at 1-1 and they now turn their attention to the 50-over format ahead of next summer's World Cup.

Curran has eight ODI caps to his name and was part of the team which won England's last series in New Zealand three months ago.

He was not chosen initially to face either Scotland or Australia, however, following Liam Plunkett's return to fitness.

Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball has been drafted into England’s ODI squad for the Royal London series against Australia as cover for all-rounder Chris Woakes.

Woakes, who will be unavailable for the first part of the series with a right quad strain, joins Ben Stokes (left hamstring tear) on the injured list. Both players have commenced their injury rehab programmes and will be hoping to respond to treatment with the aim of featuring in the latter stages of the series.

Ball, 27, last played for England at the start of the year in Perth and was an integral member of the squad that defeated Australia 4-1 in the series Down Under.

Ponting joins Bupa Support Team for Qantas Tour of the UK
Australian legend Ricky Ponting will join the Bupa Support Team for the Qantas Tour of the United Kingdom.

The ex-Australian captain, who was already set to be in the UK with commentary duties, will join forces with former teammate and new Bupa Support Team Head Coach Justin Langer for the Australian Men’s Cricket Team’s five ODIs and one T20I against England.

In recent seasons, Ponting has coached Australia’s T20I team alongside Langer against Sri Lanka on home soil in 2017, and with Darren Lehmann for the T20I Tri-Series against England and New Zealand earlier this year.

He has played in three ICC Cricket World Cup-winning sides in 1999, 2003 and 2007 - the last two as captain - and coached the Delhi Daredevils at this year’s Indian Premier League.

Bupa Support Team Head Coach, Justin Langer, said he was thrilled to have Ponting on board.

“Ricky is one of the greats of the game, and since he was already in England doing some commentary we saw it as a great opportunity to have him join our team for this important series,” Langer said.

“We have played a lot of cricket together and coached alongside each other previously, and he will also know many of the players already through his work with the team over the past two summers and his BBL commitments.

“Ricky’s knowledge of the game is second-to-none, and we know that his experiences, tactical expertise and leadership will be invaluable for this group, as we start to build a team capable of winning a World Cup in these conditions in a year’s time.”

Ponting will commence with the role on 10 June, working with the squad around his existing commentary commitments.

Warner set for commentary return

Banned Test opener David Warner will be a voice on Channel Nine's television coverage of Australia's one-day international series against England next week.

Warner, who is preparing to make a return to the playing field in the coming weeks firstly in Canada and then in Darwin, will join Nine's commentary team for Australia's clash against England in Cardiff on Saturday.

That game will be the second of a five-ODI, one-T20 International tour a depleted Australian side, led by new captain Tim Paine and new coach Justin Langer, is playing in the United Kingdom. After victories in two warm-up games this week, the series begins proper on Wednesday at The Oval.

Four of Australia's five ODIs in England will be broadcast on 9GEM, but the second match of the series will be shown on Nine's main channel. The one-off T20 at Edgbaston will also be shown on 9GEM.

"Dave is the best one-day and T20 batsman of the past decade so he's perfectly placed to join our coverage for the UK series," Nine's director of sport Tom Malone said.

"People have tried to paint Dave as the villain in all this, but he's been hurting as much as the others.

"We've had a professional relationship with Dave for five years now we've always found him to be a pretty normal and humble bloke. He just wants to atone for his mistakes and move on - I hope Australia gives all of them that chance."

Warner was suspended for 12 months for his role in the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal earlier this year (captain Steve Smith and opener Cameron Bancroft were also banned) and has been barred from holding any leadership position for the rest of his career.

His sanctions do not extend to overseas domestic leagues or Australian Premier Cricket, paving the way for his return with the Winnipeg Hawks in the inaugural Global T20 tournament in Canada later this month before a brief stint in the Northern Territory Strike League in July.

While Nine will no longer broadcast cricket during the Australian summer, the network's association with cricket has not ended completely having signed a deal in 2013 to broadcast Australia's 2015 and 2019 Ashes tours to the UK, along with ODI and T20 series the Aussies play on British soil.

Cricket Australia signed a new $1.182 billion, six-year agreement with the Seven Network and Fox Sports earlier this year.

Australia's limited overs matches in England have traditionally been played before or, as was the case in 2015, immediately after the Ashes Tests.

But given next year's World Cup will be staged in the UK prior to the 2019 Ashes series, it was decided to move the white-ball games forward to this year to provide some crucial match practice ahead of the showpiece event.

First match of the series tonight. It will be interesting to see how Australia get on with the new captain and the coach.

Super hyped for this, both teams are on the road to WC next year. Aussies have always a shout to be contenders in every WC they play in (except ‘11, which am still a bit salty about... :yk) and England have the pressure on them as they are still #1 contenders for the trophy, a small bump in the road called Scotland and getting pulled over by the green cop last year don’t discount the insane transformation they’ve gone through since the last World Cup.

Both teams are a little shaken though, Aussies from the controversies and losing 2 of their best guys and England from the one loss to a minnow, so will be interesting to see what their 50 over trajectories look like in the next months till the tourney.

England should go with 6 bowling options so Tom Curran should play.
Buttler will be back for billings & hales will sit out unless England choose to play with 5 bowlers.

This series is big test of likes of willey, wood, billings if they perform badly they might loose their spots before 2019 worldcup.

England should go with 6 bowling options so Tom Curran should play.
Buttler will be back for billings & hales will sit out unless England choose to play with 5 bowlers.

No way they'll go in with 6 bowlers without Stokes or Woakes in my view.

Chris Woakes

England and Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes’ right quad tear, which he sustained at Emerald Headingley in the second Test against Pakistan earlier this month, was at least in part due to a flare-up of a chronic right knee problem. He has had an injection for the knee issue last Monday and will now undertake a rehabilitation and conditioning programme to address both injuries. A date for return cannot be specified at this stage, but he will not be available before the India Royal London ODI series.

Ben Stokes

England and Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes’ torn left hamstring is progressing well, at just over two weeks since he sustained the injury in the build-up to the second Test against Pakistan at Emerald Headingley. He can bat fully and is now able to run at 90 percent capacity. He will commence his return to bowling programme this week. The plan is for Ben to continue his rehabilitation programme with the England squad during the 4th and 5th ODIs at Emirates Riverside and Emirates Old Trafford. He is expected to be involved in preparation, with a view to being available to play in the IT20s against India starting next month.

England National Cricket Selectors have named a 14-man squad for the Vitality IT20 series against Australia and India.

England IT20 squad

Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) Captain

Moeen Ali (Worcestershire)

Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire)

Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire)

Jos Buttler (Lancashire)

Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire)

Chris Jordan (Sussex)

Liam Plunkett (Yorkshire)

Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)

Joe Root (Yorkshire)

Jason Roy (Surrey)

David Willey (Yorkshire)

Durham seamer Mark Wood is rested. All-rounder Ben Stokes will be with the squad throughout the series as he continues his rehabilitation from his torn left hamstring.

Surrey’s Sam Curran and Somerset’s Craig Overton have been called up from the Lions to join England’s squad for the final two Royal London ODIs against Australia. Both players will travel to Chester-le-Street today and will be available for selection on Thursday at Emirates Riverside and the final match of the series at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday, providing additional fast-bowling options.

Both had been in the England Lions squad for the Tri-Series against India A and West India A which starts at the 3aaa County Ground in Derby on Friday. Sussex’s Chris Jordan has therefore been added to the Lions squad, and will be available for the first two matches of the Tri-Series in Derby - against India A on Friday June 22 and West Indies A the following day. Overton will rejoin the Lions next week and will be available to play the remaining matches of the Tri-Series.

Amended Lions squad: Nick Gubbins (Middlesex), Tom Kohler-Cadmore (Yorkshire), Sam Hain (Warwickshire), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Steven Mullaney (Nottinghamshire, captain), Ben Foakes (Surrey, wk), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Matthew Parkinson (Lancashire), Matthew Fisher (Yorkshire), Reece Topley (Hampshire), Tom Helm (Middlesex), Chris Jordan (Sussex). *Craig Overton (Somerset) to replace Jordan after the first two matches of the series.

It will be interesting what choices they make in next match playing11.

IMO Bairstow should be rested so that root gets more batting time at no.3
Sam Curran should play as an allrounder.
Tom Curran & Jake ball may replace willey & wood.

The Worcestershire all-rounder Ed Barnard has been called into the England Lions squad for the remainder of their A-team Tri-series against India and West Indies.

Barnard, a 22-year-old who played for England at the 2014 ICC Under-19 World Cup and has been in excellent form for Worcestershire this season, replaces Craig Overton, who has a side injury.

Overton had been called away from the Lions for the first two matches of the Tri-Series to join England's squad for the Royal London ODIs in Durham and Manchester.

But the Somerset bowler was ruled out of today's last match of the series at Emirates Old Trafford with side soreness, and will now return to his county, with a scan due on Monday.

The Lions, who have won their first two matches in the Tri-Series against India A and West Indies A, are practising at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough tomorrow before facing India for a second time at the Fischer County Ground, Leicester on Tuesday.

They then face West Indies A in Northampton on Thursday, needing one more win to guarantee their place in the Tri-Series final at the Kia Oval on Monday week (July 2).
