Speaking on the selection of the ODI Squad, National Selector Trevor Hohns said:

“We believe the panel has selected a strong squad to face the tough Indian conditions, that has the right mix of pace and spin.”

Nathan Coulter-Nile returns to the side following his recent recovery from a back injury, with James Faulkner receiving a re-call along with new comer to the short format Hilton Cartwright.

“Nathan brings raw pace to the side with good variation. It is great to see him back from injury and we are hopeful he will have a big impact in this series.

“James Faulkner is a solid One-Day campaigner and is very familiar with sub-continent conditions, coming off a very good tour of Sri Lanka last year. We hope that he will take his chance in returning to the one-day side.

“Hilton is an aggressive striker of the ball and we think his game will be well suited to the transition to short-form cricket,” concluded Hohns.

Speaking on the T20 International squad, T20 National Selector Mark Waugh said:

“The overall standards being set in the BBL and also the IPL are very high and the players selected have impressed in these tournaments.

WA paceman Jason Behrendorff has been selected following his return from an injury set-back, along with Victorian all-rounder Dan Christian and Tasmanian wicket-keeper Tim Paine.

“Jason has been a stand out performer for the Scorchers for a number of seasons and deserves his chance at this level.

“Dan is a very experienced all-rounder who can be a very dangerous batsman. He had a solid IPL season this year and we believe his bowling will be well suited to the conditions we will face in India.

“Tim Paine has been called-up following his successful home T20 International and Big Bash campaigns,” concluded Waugh.

Mitchell Starc has been excluded from the two squads as he continues his return from a right foot injury.
Bupa Support Staff Physiotherapist David Beakley said:

“We have recently reviewed the progress of Mitchell’s right foot injury and the healing process has been slower than we would have liked.

“Consequently, in order to ensure his best possible preparation for the Ashes, he will be unavailable for the Tour of India and will continue his rehab in Australia with an aim to have him play for New South Wales in the domestic one-day cup.”

Great to see James Faulkner back in the team.
looks like CA and Faulkner have sorted out issues.

Taking the mick with some of those players.

The T20 squad is so poor.

For how long are Mitch Marsh and Starc injured?

Where is the lanky 7 foot pacer? Had terrible fitness but he bowled express stuff and from that height, it was 10x faster.

Not much of an away tour if you see most of these players have featured in IPL

Why no Starc?

How come he always ends up skipping so many tours

How is Ashton Ager still playing International cricket is beyond logic

India-Australia series to be played as per old ICC rules

The upcoming India-Australia series, scheduled from September 17 to October 13, will be played as per existing by-laws of the game despite new ICC rules coming into effect on September 28.

Virat Kohli and his team will play as per new rules when New Zealand tour India in mid-October. However, the rules will take effect when Bangladesh take on South Africa and Pakistan take on Sri Lanka

The new set of rules pertaining to the code of conduct, DRS usage, and size of the equipment was supposed to be implemented from October 1 but with the twin Test series starting on September 28, it has been decided that it will come to effect from that very date.

While the India vs Australia series — comprising five ODIs and three T20 Internationals — will continue till the second week of October, the ICC has decided that it would only be prudent that this series is played as per old rules to avoid confusion.

"Yes, the rules will come into effect when the double header Tests (Sri Lanka vs Pakistan and Bangladesh vs South Africa starts) start on September 28. The Australia vs India and England vs West Indies limited overs series both start on September 17.

"While both the series will continue into October but you don't want any confusion with regards to a different set of rules followed in the same series. Hence, this decision by the ICC," a BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

A prominent rule change that will come into effect is that teams will no longer lose a review under DRS if a leg- before referral returns as 'Umpires' Call'.

With the change in the DRS rule on umpires' call, the current rule allowing the top-up of reviews after 80 overs in Tests is set to be removed.

The ICC has also empowered umpires to send off players for misconduct, including violence. All other offences would continue to be dealt under the ICC Code of Conduct.

There would be restrictions on bat dimensions (thickness of edges and depth of bat). Besides, batsmen will not be deemed out if the bat is in the air after crossing the crease.

The batsman is currently ruled out if the bat is not grounded when the stumps are disturbed.

The BCCI official said the new set of rules will be applicable from the New Zealand series.

"The New Zealand series that starts from the third week of October will be India's first under the new set of rules," he informed.

Why risk Cummins for such a meaningless series with the Ashes coming up?

Home LOI series against Australia and New Zealand? Lol, these Indians have the easiest schedule of any team. Nothing can stop Kohli from getting to 50 ODI centuries at this point. Only five of those are any good, however.

You do not know much about how things work but will always keep complaining about others that they know nothing and their age is getting better of them.
India toured aus for 5 odis and 3 t20s and it ia their return tour. Only the nz 3 match odi and t20 series is out of schefule which is because it is festival season in india around this time and the gamea will get bettrr response from public.

They haven't played a home LOI series against Australia since 2013.

They played 3 home ODIs against NZ last year and are playing 3 more. Before that, NZ played ODIs in 2010.

Khawaja dropped? Always thought, he doesn't fit into the LO's line up with Smith, Finch & Warner already nailing the top 3 spots.

Good to see finch/warner pair. Faulkner 'll play a vital role in the series. Finally the dull series of Ind Vs SL is over ..that was painful to watch. This 'll be a great contest looking forward for some good fighting games.

India announce Squad for first three ODI matches

India announced the squad for the first three one-day internationals for the Australia series and as expected there were not much changes from the squad that beat Sri Lanka in the ODI series recently. The Board of Control for Cricket of India still did not include the spin pair of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Ashwin is playing county cricket while Jadeja has been rested since the Test series in Sri Lanka last month. Virat Kohli will lead the squad for the five match series that begins in Chennai from September 17.

The only change in the squad was the omission of fast bowler Shardul Thakur. Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami, who were rested after the Sri Lanka Test series, have been recalled.

Squad: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhone, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvender Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami

Kohli needs to be rested, the stupid CoA should see that he could burn out pretty quickly under this amount of workload!

Aren't these guys continuously been playing since CT? First they went to WI just days after CT ended then that useless Sri Lanka tour now these useless bilateral?

Ridiculous scheduling

Aussie series is pretty important rankings wise.

Should have been rested for the SL series. Meaningless.

Rankings don't matter much in LO, besides Aussies themselves send second string sides even to tours of SA & NZ for instance. Surely Kohli must be rested for the NZ series & possibly even the LO leg of SL visit in India, if there is one.

I agree.

Should look to rest him for one of these series.

BUT he did just tweet, "Rest day is a cheat day, never stop working hard." Maybe he takes the same approach to his cricket too?

Why risk Cummins for such a meaningless series with the Ashes coming up?

Cummins actually needs some games in him- he's actually hardly played any cricket so he and the team want him to play as much as is reasonable. Experience in Asia with hopefully some huge crowds won't do him any harm either.

After that George Bailey series Aus and India ODIs have lost venom, especially without Stark, boring run fests

I don't want boring slog fests we normally get while playing aus. Make pitches like the nz series where batting is not easy

Opener Aaron Finch is in a race against time to be fit for the first ODI against India on Sunday after his injured calf pulled up sore at training in Chennai. Finch aggravated his right calf during Australia's warm-up at Chepauk Stadium on Thursday and he pulled out of the rest of the session to ice the muscle.

The Victorian had been rested from Australia's warm-up match on Tuesday due to the injury, which he suffered playing for Surrey in England six weeks ago. Having trained earlier this week, the 30-year-old was expected to play in the series opener, but his absence from training on Thursday puts him in doubt for Sunday's match.

Uncapped allrounder Hilton Cartwright opened in Finch's absence in the warm-up game, but was dismissed for a second-ball duck in Australia's 103-run win. Cartwright opened in one-day cricket for Western Australia last summer, but the Aussies may choose to elevate Travis Head - who scored a century as an opener on Australia Day this year - to the top of the order.

However, stand-in coach David Saker confirmed this week that Head has been earmarked to fill the vacant No.4 role and with Finch's injury not series-ending, Cartwright may be used as a stop-gap opener until the Victorian is fit again. Australia have tried six players at No.4 in 10 matches since George Bailey was dropped in January and Saker hopes impressive youngster Head can be a long-term solution.

"Hopefully he's the one that can do it," Saker said of the left-hander on Wednesday, before Finch aggravated his calf. "He just seems to keep getting better every time he plays for Australia, so that's a real positive "His training ethic is as good as you'd get so it's a good reward for him." Head, one of four Australians to score a half-century in the tour game, averages more than 40 in ODIs since making his debut in June last year.

"I'm excited by the opportunity to go up the order again," the South Australian said of the shift to No.4. "I've had a chance at most spots since I've come into the side. "I feel confident and it was nice to get some time in the middle the other day to get a feel for the wicket and the conditions." Should the Aussies decide to move Head up to opener, one of Glenn Maxwell or Marcus Stoinis would be in line to fill to No.4 spot.

New Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan has been released from Team India's squad for the first three One-Day Internationals against Australia, first of which will be played on September 17, to be with sick wife.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the same via an official statement, while also confirming a replacement will not be named.

The BCCI statement read: "Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan has requested to be released from the team for the first three ODIs of the Paytm Australia tour of India, 2017 to attend to his wife, who is unwell. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for Dhawan in Indian Cricket Team."
Dhawan also withdrew midway from the Sri Lanka series to be with his mother who was unwell at that time.

BCCI had then sent a statement which read: "Shikhar Dhawan would be leaving for India tomorrow i.e. September 3rd to see his ailing mother. Dhawan’s mother is stable and is recovering well at the moment.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for the 5th ODI and the only T20I, scheduled on September 3rd and 6th respectively in Colombo."

The news might be bad for the Men in Blue but it also gives an opportunity to Ajinkya Rahane, who would look to make the opportunity count and reaffirm his status as a key player for the team in limited overs cricket.

India Squad

Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami.

Aaron Finch ruled out of early stages of series, Handscomb named as replacement

Opening batsman Aaron Finch has been ruled out of the early stages of Australia’s limited overs tour of India, with Peter Handscomb called up as cover for the injured Victorian.

Having sat out Australia’s practice match earlier in the week due to a calf problem, Finch re-aggravated the injury during a warm-up at training in Chennai on Thursday.

The 30-year-old is expected to miss the first few one-day internationals but will remain with the squad for the remainder of the tour in the hopes of playing the final two ODIs and three Twenty20s.

Due to Finch’s injury, Victorian batsman Handscomb has been called up to the ODI squad. To date, Handscomb has played five ODIs for Australia, with a top score of 82 and average of 22.50.

Pat Cummins to return home following India ODI Series

Cricket Australia has today confirmed that fast-bowler Pat Cummins will return home from the Qantas Tour of India following the five-match one-day international series.

National Selector Trevor Hohns said: “Pat has played a considerable amount of cricket this year after a long period away from the game due to injury.

“His body has handled the return to international cricket well, but we believe the best plan for him ahead of the Ashes Series is to return home to refresh, both mentally and physically, before he prepares for Sheffield Shield cricket.”

A decision on a replacement for Cummins in the T20 International squad will be announced in due course.

Good. He's put in a good stint of playing an extended period for the first time ever. Time to get him home, freshen up for the first-class season and be ready for the Ashes.

I think I said 4:1 India before the start of this series unless someone started winning matches all on their own. Looks that way so far.

Jhye? What a joke of a selection. Good young lad but nowhere near international level.

Virat Kohli-led India will look to fancy their chances of attaining an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series when they take on Australia for the third ODI at Holkar Stadium, Indore on September 24. As India's newest spin twins Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are proving to be lethal and unplayable for the visitors, Holkar Stadium's pitch curator Samandar Singh Chauhan, on Friday, said that the track will prove to be belter but at the same time will be helpful for the spinners too. The Madhya Pradesh CA curator further added that the pitch won't crumble and hence only the wrist spinners will be able to make an impact.

"We have used black cotton soil, brought from different parts of Madhya Pradesh. In this weather, it won't crumble and it won't be very dry. It has capacity to hold water but it will be good for the wrist spinners," Chauhan said.

The Australian batsmen have struggled against India's spinners Kuldeep and Chahal in the first two matches with the former becoming only the third Indian to take a hat-trick in ODIs.

"We had used this pitch for a two-day match between the players of our Ranji players. Ninety overs were bowled on both days on September 7 and 8 and good runs were scored. It should be a high scoring game," Chauhan added.

Holkar stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Indian batsmen as Virender Sehwag had struck his career-best ODI score of 219 against the West Indies in December 2011.

India captain Virat Kohli had hit a double hundred (211) against New Zealand in the first innings of the third Test here last year and Ajinkya Rahane had scored 188 in the same innings.

Before the start of the series, it was said that 300-plus score would be norm but the first two matches have not seen that happening.

The city has also been experiencing rain in the last few days. There is forecast of sporadic showers during the next two days. The ground was kept under covers after a heavy downpour from last midnight till Friday afternoon.

However, a strong drainage system in place means that a ground staff of 80 people can get the field ready for play in an hour even after a strong spell of rain.

"We are equipped with three super soppers, 12 sump well -- each having 60-feet deep boring - and 48 100-feet borewells to make the ground ready," Chauhan, who has been associated with MPCA for the last 22 years, said.
The first match in Chennai was a truncated affair and in Kolkata as well the rain had interrupted the match for a brief period.

The MPCA officials indicated that if there is bright sunshine on Sunday, batting first will be the order of the day whichever skipper wins the toss.

The BCCI selectors on Sunday included left-arm spinner Axar Patel in the Indian squad for the last two one-dayers of the ongoing series against Australia and dropped Ravindra Jadeja. Patel had twisted his ankle before the series-opener in Chennai, therefore, the selectors had included Jadeja in the 15-man squad as a cover. India have already sealed the series with a comfortable five-wicket win over Australia in Indore, rendering the last last two matches inconsequential.

The fourth match will be played in Bengaluru on September 28 while the ODI series will conclude in Nagpur on October 1.

India Squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Axar Patel.

Melbourne: Australia spinner Ashton Agar has been ruled out of the last two one-day internationals in India after suffering a broken finger, Cricket Australia said on Monday.

The left-armer injured his right little finger while fielding in the five-wicket loss in Indore on Sunday, team doctor Richard Saw said in a statement.

“Following the conclusion of the match he went for X-rays which have confirmed a fracture of the finger,” Saw said.

“He will return home to Australia and consult a specialist with a possibility of surgery.”
Agar will not be replaced in the squad for the remaining two ODI matches, CA added.

Injuries have already ruled pace bowlers Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and James Pattinson out of the tour.

India took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. The fourth ODI is in Bengaluru on Thursday.

India showing they are a class above: Finch

NEW DELHI: Opening batsman Aaron Finch marked his return to the Australia side with a defiant century in the third One-day International against India but the thrill was tempered by another loss for Steve Smith’s struggling side.

Finch, a member of Australia’s 2015 World Cup-winning team, can scarcely remember a tougher run playing for his country in the short format.

Australia’s five-wicket defeat in Indore on Sunday saw them fall 3-0 behind in the five-match series. The defeat was their 11th in their last 13 ODIs away from home, while the other two matches were rain-affected no results.

Finch, who scored 124 in Indore after missing the defeats in Chennai and Kolkata with a calf problem, said Australia had failed to take their chances against India but conceded there was a clear difference between the sides.

“You have to play well but I think you also have to go in with the right attitude and make sure that when you do get an opportunity to win a game, you don’t let that slip,” Finch said in comments published on Cricket Australia’s website.

“We’ve been in a couple of good positions in the first few games and as soon as you give India a sniff, they’ll beat you nine times out of 10.

“You have to play 100 percent to beat India in these conditions,” Finch said. “If you play 90 percent, it’s not good enough here.

“There’s obviously a gap between the sides at the moment and they’re proving that.

“They’re 3-0 up, they’re the number one side in the world and there’s just a few things we need to tinker with as players to bridge that gap and get the results going our way.”

Australia were whitewashed 5-0 away to South Africa last year and Finch said the mounting losses were not helping with confidence.

“Whenever you’re losing, it’s never easy,” said the 30-year-old, who struck his eighth ODI ton in Indore.

“Winning away from home is what every side strives to achieve and I think whenever you start losing, you can lose a little bit of confidence in yourself and in the way you’re playing.”

Finch was understandably glad to score some runs, especially after going to lengths to convince the team’s physiotherapist of his fitness to play.

“If [the calf] had have gone again last night, I might have been in a bit of strife,” he said. “So it was nice for that to hold up.”

The fourth ODI is in Bengalaru on Thursday.

Tye to replace Cummins for T20s in India

NEW DELHI: Australia have recalled pace bowler Andrew Tye to the squad for next month’s three-match Twenty20 International series against India, Cricket Australia said on Tuesday.

Tye, who dislocated his shoulder playing for Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League in April, replaces Pat Cummins.

The 30-year-old, who played the last of his five international T20s in February, joins fast bowlers Nathan Coulter-Nile, Kane Richardson and uncapped left-armer Jason Behrendorff in the squad.

Cummins, who has suffered several injury setbacks in the past five years, has withdrawn himself from the T20 matches that follow the ongoing five-match ODI series, and will be heading home to freshen up for the Ashes series against Eng*land starting in November.

The tourists, who have already conceded the ODI series after losing the first three matches, will look for a better result in the T20 games starting Oct 7 in Ranchi.

Test cricket mindset needed to bat in Indian conditions: Stoinis

BANGALORE: Regarding it is very difficult to start hitting big shots immediately in Indian conditions, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has called for a Test-like application in order to set up for big hits in the latter half of the game.

“I just want to get an understanding of the conditions — sometimes it takes five balls, sometimes it takes 20. I’m not really putting a number on that. It was a bit unrealistic for me to go in there and try and hit the first couple of balls for boundaries when you don’t know what the conditions are doing,” Stoinis said during a press conference before the Australian team’s training session here at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.

Australia, having already lost the series 0-3 to India, play in the fourth ODI of the five-match series here on Thursday.

The tourists failed to tackle spin yet again in the sub-continent. In the ongoing ODI series, the Australian batsmen have struggled to sometimes pick Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

In addition to the spin conundrum, Steve Smith’s side has also struggled against the swing, discipline and accuracy of pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah at the start and in the death overs.

Australia have lost their last 11 out of 13 overseas ODIs and the key factor behind this losing streak has been frequent batting collapses.

In two ODIs where Australia suffered a dramatic collapse, Stoinis played a lone hand and smashed some big hits to almost take Australia over the line.

During the Auckland ODI against New Zealand, he smashed an unbeaten 146 off 117 balls but Australia lost by six runs. In the Kolkata ODI, after Australia collapsed to 148-8, he smashed 62 not out off 65 balls but Australia lost by 50 runs.

When asked about how he feels to play a lone hand, Stoinis said, “I’m still quite new to those sorts of situations. The only plan is to try and win the game.

“That’s the way I’m going about it. Not try to win the game from the start, but trying to be there at the end, trying to take the game as deep as possible.”

Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Nehra Return as Ajinkya Rahane Is Left Out of the T20I Squad Against Australia

New Delhi: Dashing India opener Shikhar Dhawan has made a comeback into the 15-man squad for the upcoming 3-match T20I series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Sunday.

Dhawan opted out of the recently-concluded ODI series against the same opposition to look after his ailing wife. Ajinkya Rahane took his place in the line-up and slammed four consecutive fifties, while opening the batting with Rohit Sharma.

However, Rahane has now been left out of the squad to make way for the southpaw. Moreover, Rahane hasn't been part of the line-up in the shortest format of the game for a while now as he didn't feature in the one-off T20I against Sri Lanka last month as well.

Also included in the squad are Ashish Nehra, who is seen as a T20 specialist and Dinesh Karthik — who did very well during India's tour of West Indies, right after the Champions Trophy 2017.

India are scheduled to play three T20Is against Australia, whom they thumped 4-1 in the five match ODI series and go top of the ICC rankings. The Men In Blue would also like to improve their T20Is rankings as currently they occupy the fifth spot on the table.

Squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Axar Patel.

Steve Smith update

Cricket Australia has today confirmed that Australian Captain Steve Smith will return home from the Qantas Tour of India with a shoulder injury.

Bupa Support Team Doctor Richard Saw said: “Smith landed awkwardly on his right shoulder whilst diving in the field during the fifth ODI against India last Sunday.

“Following the match he complained of shoulder soreness, which has not settled and is restricting his ability to bat and throw.

“Subsequently he has had an MRI scan which has excluded serious injury, but we believe the best course of action is for him to not continue to aggravate his shoulder and allow it to recover.”

“He will have further investigation upon his return to Australia but we remain confident he will be available for the start of the Sheffield Shield season.”

The National Selection Panel have confirmed that Marcus Stoinis will replace Smith in the squad for the remainder of the series and vice-captain David Warner will stand in as captain in Smith’s absence.

David warner is a good captain than Smith. Its good that he got a chance to show his credentials
