They can save it for another team. :)
I dont want another embarrassing defeat from Bangladesh.

Wet conditions to delay the start of match.

Update: There will be an inspection at 9:30am local time (13:30 GMT). So more on that soon. Andrew 'Father of Bangladesh Cricket' Miller has some information: "There are some very soggy-looking puddles in the outfield at the moment. A bit overcast but blue skies are threatening to come through."

Mark Nicholas has said that we will be lucky to play until early afternoon local time. Very bad news.

Ch9 going back to 92 World Cup.
Australia Vs Pakistan. Ooooooooo.
At Perth. Loser of the match falls out of semi final contention. We know who wins then.

Here is a look of the ground.
View.jpg

More from Andrew: "We'll get another update at 11am local time (15:00 GMT). The bloke with roller has appeared at last. But after randomly ironing a fairly dry patch of grass, he's retreated to the boundary's edge and completely ignored the offending quagmire. Maybe he's afraid he'll fall in. The damp patches are still too damp for an immediate start. The sponsorship logos are being nailed onto the outfield though, so someone somewhere thinks a game must be imminent."

There's a boggy area by the edge of the square as well, apparently. The outfield has improved a bit. Another inspection at noon (16:00 GMT). Andrew adds: "This is looking like a farce in the making." That reminds me of Karl Marx, who once famously said: "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce." Completely unconnected but such is the mood.

Andrew has decided to spend his time doing some arithmetic: "Some bloke has just appeared with piece of sponge, a square metre's worth at most, and is treading futilely on it. Now he's wringing it out on the boundary's edge. If that little exercise has taken him, say, four minutes, to cover the remaining 16,000 square metres will take him approximately 1066 hours, or 44 days."

As you can clearly see, both of us are highly bored. Please let us know your thoughts here

The more the match is reduced, the more this will suit Bangladesh.

this is a SETUP ... how can they have a field that is bogged by water? What happened to the drainage, isnt this a new ground? why is the man with the sponge, using a spone the size of my shirt? Where is the super soaker?

they are going to make this a 20/20 so that AUS has the clear advantage.

ok so I read the previous posts just now .. HOW can this be advantage BD if the match is reduced?

BD relies on spinners.. if the outfield is wet ... spinners wont do much..

plus .. in a 20 overs match.. or 25 or whatever... AUS has 10 TIMES the firepower of BD ..

please explain

One day games generally become more and more of a lottery the shorter they are. In a 20-over game, if there is a sudden clatter of wickets or a boundary haemorrage, it can decide the game because there is no time to come back from it. Whereas in a 40 or 50 over game, the better side's class is a lot more likely to shine through in the end.

Hopefully its a 20-20 and the Bengalis knock the tooth floss and hair bleach out of the convict scum and all the way back to prison island, hastening the Aussies' Super 8 exit.

Some good news now: "The sun's out, the wind's out, we are coming back out every half hour," says umpire Billy Bowden. "We are positive we can get a game in." 2:47pm (18:47 GMT) start is the latest to get 20 overs each in.

Thanks Whippy, I hope so this is the case... but I am weary of Hayden and Ponting who are in sublime form... then there is Gilchi, Symo and Hussey .. OMG

A 20-20 slogfest isn't exactly going to help Hussey get back in form...

Nick has an idea: "I notice there are a heap of Aussies at the ground. Just tell 'em the reason for the dampness is the nearby brewery leaking into the groundwater - they'll have the outfield sucked dry in no time"

:)))

when is play goin to begin IF it is goin to begin?

Last I read from CricInfo:

Update The umpires have decided to have another inspection at 1:20pm (17:20 GMT). The Australians are warming up on the field and play is expected to start at 2pm (18:00 GMT).

I think it will take another 30 minutes to start!

It's official. Toss at 2pm local time (18 GMT) and start at 2:30pm (18:30 GMT). It's a 22 overs a side game. Only two bowlers can bowl five overs. Power Plays for the first nine overs. If Col. Frank Slade was around, he would have let out one mighty "Hoo-Ah!"

whats the point of having a reserve day if your not going to use it

As far as I understand they still have to try and start the game today, even if it is DL. If they could not have played a 20/20 game, then I assume it would have started tomorrow as a 50/50

22 over a side match.. very interesting!

that is only for emergency use. it can rain tomorrow and if the play doesn't start today then there might be no play at all. They have to try and get the game in the first day. Plus ICC has to think about spectators and TV coverage as there is another game tomorrow. Me I would rather have this game finish today be it Twenty20 so it doesn't interfere with my WI-SL game

Something interesting. Didn't know Ponting as a captain has never lost a game in the WC i.e. 16.

Yeah its remarkable. In fact the last time they lost a WC match irrespective of captain was way back in 99 to us.

This will even things up - OZ still with the edge, but anything can happen in hit and giggle.

I wonder what the par score will be in this game? About 140 or something?

Well apparently Bashar thinks 180 is a good score on this pitch. No chance in hell if you ask me. But I'm sticking around hoping it happens.

1 run after the first over. bracken didn't look to threatening though.

Mcgrath on,.....first ball left alone... Mcgrath needs 2 wickets to go ahead of Wasim

charge down the pitch...smashed on the up, but straight to mid-off.... no run

Massive swing and a miss. That could have easily taken a top edge.

single into the leg side, 2-0 after 2 overs, only 7 more overs of the powerplay... they need to get a move on

another single..... good shot but didn't get the placement, Tamim having a go...

Simple catch for Hogg at mid-off.

quite an important wicket..... Tamim hit some nice big shots vs India

lol, Sky sports has left us with a view of the caribbean sky.....

Some wild swings from the Bangladeshis here.

How woeful is Sky Sports? I missed that great straight drive from the new batsman.

hey OZGOD, are you shouting for the minnows today? :)))

One part of me will be happy for Bangladesh if they win - a small part though. If we have to lose a match in the S8s I'd love it to be Bangladesh. :D

bowled him... Mcgrath equals the great Wasim Akram........8-2
