ballay ballay. This will be another close match. I say around 300 first innings for both teams
NZ 269-8 after 95.5 overs

BTW: Lee has taken 2 wickets this innings

If OZ can't get more than 300 in reply on this wicket I reckon the batsmen should all retire en masse. They should be targetting no less than 450 at least.

Martin the man out, Lee finishes with 4-66, NZ 270, 8 runs added for 4 wkts

Martin must be the most easiest tail ender in the world to dismiss. He always gets bowled first ball, second ball.

that was quick. maybe the Aussie batsmen were fielding with pads on. a boundary already

Almost a maiden over after the first ball 4. Will Australia make 26 runs before a wicket falls? A good question. Stay tuned to find out

Katich-o-rama was batting with 100 SR but then has 4 dot balls to display his defensive technique which is always good in pressure situation
Hayden playing his 100th test. Will he make a 100 this test? He is due 50+
cricinfo has a facebook page. Howw cool!!!

Australia getting close to the goal of 26 runs. currently on 16 but I feel batsmen shaking. And an extra shake that connected and Katich gets a four
Aus 21-0

Hayden gets upset as Katich moves ahead of him and hits a four to move to 8498 runs and passes the nervous 100 mark with another four.

Martin not happy as he will be remembered as the one Hayden crossed the 8500 mark. comes round the wicket

Ian Chappell has a chat with the former offspinner Ashley Mallet at the boundary rope. That's interesting. shouldn't the play stop now so everyone can listen

Anyone have a working stream? Mine went down again.

Haydunce run out for 24. Poor dismissal.

Have to ask, what's the significance of 26 runs?

28 runs was the first landmark Aus had to reach as they were losing wickets early. And after reaching it they got over confident. See the importance

Hayden having tea now

So it was an arbitrary number, ok.
Ponting as they say in the game is "due one"

2/115 Ponting and Hussey steadying the ship.

Ponting making all the runs, Hussey just batting.

We should be looking for 450 at the very least here, or preferably 550 and only bat once. Grind the Kiwis into the Adelaide dust.

Ponting rox... this is why he's my favourite player... what a great strokemaker... just a delight to watch...

No Aussie can ever say that subcontinental pitches are poor in that they only support batting. Look at the Adelaide pitch. It is the FLATTEST pitch I have ever seen (although Adelaide is ALWAYS really flat)

Ah but it is only one pitch in Australia. Not every pitch.

And usually there is a result in Adelaide.

the Gabba is usually very good for batsmen aswell (last test was under prepared) and Sydney only helps spinners after day 4, so its much alike Indian pitches.

Aside from the ball bouncing about 4 feet higher in Australia.

Ponting out for 79 - that is twice in a row out to the pull shot. Very odd.

3/155, hint of another wobble.

Funnily, he also got out twice playing the same shot against Pravin Kumar.

Hayden needs to do something quickly before he becomes history.

He was extremely pissed off. Its a flat track, it was a great opportunity for him to get a century. Now if Australia dont bat again, his career may be in the balance.

Who's the next opener waiting to get in the side?

No shortage of applicants for that spot:

Chris Rogers (Vic) has 600 runs already this season and is killing it.

Phillip Hughes (NSW) is the young gun pushing through. Not ready yet but in the eye of the selectors.

Shaun Marsh (WA) is a favorite of the selectors.

Phil Jaques (NSW) is a proven run scorer at Test level (average 47 I think) and will be back at the end of the summer.

Australia 192/3. trail by 78 runs. Should look for a lead of around 150.

I don't think they'll go back to Rogers, although he was the form opener a couple years ago. Though he may work as a stopgap as Phil Hughes is too young. Jaques will definitely be back when he returns from injury. Marsh is in with a shout too.

3/241 at stumps. Hussey and Clarke look settled and should continue tomorrow in the same vein. Australian middle order looks the strongest at the moment.

Hussey continuing on. Amazing player. Dull yes. But amazing nonetheless.

We should win this one comfortably.

Depends really when the change is made OG.

If we needed an opener for Perth against SA Rogers would be picked IMO.

If we needed an opener for Ashes, Jaques is the man. Marsh or Hughes might go along for experience, depending on how they go this summer.

Both Kayden and Krapich won't be playing for much longer.

:inzi Krapich is in for the long haul unfortunately. Haydos needs a hundred in this test.

Fortunately he is already 35 Jamal :D

Great success :yk

Edit : He's 33, will be around till he's 38 :O

Australia in control of game here and its a case of how big a lead can they get before they put kiwis back in. Haydune i recon may get one last chance v S.A

Personally i recon hes past his best and should be dropped.

Funny how an injury can change everything just like that. Before his injury, Hayden was probably the best batsman in the world for some months with no batsman outscoring him in that period, whether it be Tests or ODIs. And look where he is now after the injury.

I think Jacques will come back into side once fit. I also think some of bowlers maybe on borrowed time aswell.

If this match was against india and India batted first, I bet they wud have scored well over 500 on this track. this is the difference between india and other countries when playing against aussies in aussies.

Not really India still lose to Australia in Australia like everyone else :D

Yes looks that way. Bowling attack has very little penetration these days.

Lulz, in all seriousness, I think Hauritz knows he's back for only one test. He's so terrible in all departments. I mean, McGrath tripped over a cricket ball, this guy tangled his feet together.

yes if australia plays with 13 players. we all knew how they performed in perth and adelide when they had to play with 11 players. I thot india thrashed the current aussie team few weeks ago.
