Match starts in about an hour. Cool day here in Melbourne, should be some swing and seam.

Let us see if Tait can handle 10 overs. On the T20 evidence I highly doubt it.

Steyn gets Hussey, M and keeping it quiet. 1/27 after 7 overs.

Who really cares?

Ponting is playing nicely here, I would love to see him crack a century today...

Bangladesh match is very interesting. Action packed.

Bangladesh would have to be one of the biggest ever sure bets to lose, the game after they actually beat somebody.

1/70 after 14.4, the world's 4th greatest ever batsman getting some luck today.

what? 3 v close lbw shouts a missed run out and a dropped catch!!

Damnn The bunny out for 46, he shouldve made a ton; only had about 4 lives.....

by the way, has this chap bhota got a bit of a dodgy action?

He was banned for a year for his action ... aparently it was sorted out but hardly looks any better.

im no expert but it looks a bit suspect i agree. worse for him at the moment hes getting tonked.

lol worlds luckiest batsmen gets three lives from umpires (as usual), still din get a century today ?

What the hell is Mckenzie doing in the side.

OK we all know that he is related to Arthur

has a hot wife and sis, so you never know. :akhtar

Clarke out ... Aus looking at a total around 280+ at the moment.

If we can somehow manage to scramble close to 300 it might be a pretty good total.

Thats a tough ask .... need to go at over 14 an over to get there. I think 280 is more realistic.

Meanwhile it looks like Bangla are looking at another depressing loss after a win. 151/9 in the 50th over!

Hussey gets clean bowled.. wrong time to get out now Australia might not even get 270.

Pathetic fielding by South Africa especially the debutant guy.
Whats the deal with selecting this guy ... looking at his figures he hasn't exactly been doing much domestically to get a call up to the SA team. Aparently he almost did a pieterson and played for england, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Speaking of Van Jaarsveld, he actually holds onto a catch this time!

V Van Jaarsveld's figures for 08/09 domestic limited overs matches(45 overs):

Played 8
Runs 487
Highest 100*
Average 69.57
SR 110.68
50's 5
100's 1

If that ain't good figures then i don't know what is mate!!!

This total should set up a good match. Unless Tait goes beserk in the Over Of Doom (his first).

Saffers actually did quite well. After the start that aussie got i would have expected them to get close to 300, if not a little more.

Should be a good game.

Australia didn't reach 300 not because Saffers were good because Australia was crappy too. Just that SA is more crappy. Over all poor cricket from both teams mostly. Thoughtless running between the wickets, poor throws, poor catching, poor bowling.

Without AB De Villiers and Greame Smith the S.A batting looks toothless.

This would be so much better as a ODI team...

Smith
Gibbs (van jaarsveld if giibs can't find form)
Amla
Kallis (all rounder)
De Villiers
Dumminy (can bowl if need be)
Boucher
Albie Morkel (all rounder)
Botha (all rlounder)
Hall (still young enough , all rounder and great death bowler)
Steyn

This way you're playing 10 GOOD batsmen ..9 of which are fast scorers and one bowler , while still having a really good bowling attack.

Bangladesh get a run out first ball..

0.1 Mashrafe Mortaza to Tharanga, OUT, what a start! He taps it softly towards extra cover and there;s plenty of hesitation in the running, Jayasuriya starts then he's sent back and Shakib under arms the ball on to the stumps

ST Jayasuriya run out 0 (0b 0x4 0x6) SR: -

Good start by Bangla, but still a bit too much to ask of the bowlers to defend a 150 total.

Nope. Plying his trade in England methinks.

From cricinfo:
Earned a spot in South Africa's 15-man World Cup squad, where he took 14 wickets, but was excluded for the ICC World Twenty20 - a decision which prompted him to retire from international cricket.

Aparently he's 33 as well so probably well past it.

The Over Of Doom:

Tait ball 1 145kph and swinging

Tait ball 2 148.7kph bowls Amla

Anyone who thinks he just bowls straight should have a look at that, he swings the new ball.

The Over Of Doom:

149.7 wide

151.4 wide

Ball 3 148.4

Ball 4 148.1

Ball 5 146.7

Ball 6 148

Tait second over mostly 148kph, 11 runs off it - Gibbs hit a couple of amzing pull strokes for 4.

McKenzie batting at no.5.. id like to see him come in with the required rate above 7/over

Kallis has an Afridi moment and looses his offstump.. that looked ugly

Now lets see what McKenzie can do..

As expected the run rate has dried up since McKenzie came to the crease.

He went after David hussey so the run rate's back under control for now.

Thats one hell of an ordinary looking bowling line up.

The keeper could stand up to all of them!

looks like this match ll have good finish but finish could b ruined by batting power play

Has Tait ever had problems with his action - ever been called for 'throwing'?

McKenzie gets another 4 againts Hussey. Hes played a good little knock here.

Getting real sick of this Duminy bloke.....

Not me mate!!!! Bet you looking foward to seeing back home in the republic?

And not a single boundary or 6 in that innings of 50!!!!
quite amazing really. They showed his wagonwheel and its full of singles and twos in every area just about.

this is really smart batting ... another 6 singles off that over.

Wise head on Duminy shoulders - never heard of him until 2 games ago - dont think he s failed to get a decent score in any of those games.

We are going down unless we get some wickets here. Inexperienced bowlers at the death.

Plus SA are yet to take their powerplay!

Aussie bowling attack is really ordinary. The fact that they had to turn to Hussey just shows how poor their bowling really is. There are going down unless they can find some really good bowlers.

Get me the sick bag - Mark Nicholas's commentary is nauseating!

I know he wants 'Benauds Crown' but his shameless sucking up makes me cringe!

Duminy is OUT!

Lobs it to White off the hippy guy

Boucher gone with a fast yorker by Tait ... getting a bit tricky this one!!!

Loose shot by Van J first up.. he hasnt looked great so far against australia

McKenzie choked? Gone for a really good 63 off 80 but he needed to stay till the end.

SA 221/7

Don't underestimate Albie The Morkel.

He likes swinging. Swinging hard with the bat, connecting with ball.
