Four hours to go.

This is a big match, probably the second biggest of the group stage after the India v SL clash (and the only reason I rate that ahead of this is because of what was at stake in that match). Both teams have qualified but will still want to carry two vital points over to the Super 8 stage.

My thoughts on the two teams:

Australia

I assume the side will be:

Gilly
Haydunce
Ponting
Clarke
Symmo
Watson
Hussey
Hogg
Bracken
Tait
McGrath

Batting: I think the OZ batting is very strong. We have great batting depth (batting down to 9) and even against SA's attack I expect the side to post a big score (which we will need as our bowling is rubbish). I think Stodge will be dropped for Symmo if fit, and though it's bad luck for Stodge he'll be used to it, considering he was dropped from the Test side after scoring an unbeaten double ton against the Jaapies (ironically enough). The top and middle order is pretty strong and it will have to be to face SA's attack. I'm a bit concerned with Hussey who has missed out twice - could this be the tournament that bursts his bubble?

Bowling: Our bowling has been crap and the selectors will be keen to have as many options as possible to turn to. The 5th bowler will probably be Clarke, Symmo and Watson (though I use the word "bowling" very loosely in his case). Hogg's form has improved (albeit against minnows) and his role will be crucial against a very strong Jaapie attack. Tait will be a wildcard as always - will he spray it around or will he get it on target? I don't think we'll be as bad as we were in NZ, but I don't think we've improved all that much. I think we'll struggle to bowl out SA.

SA

I assume the side will be:

Smiffy
AB
Kallizzzz :28:
Prince
Gibbs
Kemp
Boucher
Pollock
Hall
Langevelt
Ntini

Batting: The Jaaps have a very strong batting attack as well, probably as strong as the OZ if not stronger. They bat down to 9 and have put on some sizzling displays in the tournament so far (including what should have been a record-breaking score against the Dutch if they had batted 50 overs instead of 40). They have cowlashers who can smash the ball over the boundary and against OZ's minnow-level attack they should find the going pretty easy.

Bowling: I'm not all that impressed with SA's attack - it's better than the OZ's minnow-level attack, but not much better. Ntini looked ordinary against Scotland and Langeveldt was taken to the cleaners by the Scots in the death overs. Pollock is still as good as ever though, while Hall has improved. Will the lack of a spinner be a big issue?

I think this match will be a batsman's match - it's going to be a high-scoring slogfest. I'm hoping for an OZ win, but I think we might get done, particularly if we bat first.

Man I did not read your analysis. I just want Australia to steam roll South Africa. Just teach SA some cricketing lessons. Ill read the analysis now

OZGOD, I think you underestimate the oz bowling. While weaker/more inexperienced than in other years it is still a strong and varied attack.

This match should be awesome (well I hope it is).

Result. Narrow OZ victory, and if it is caused by SA choking .... even better :)

I am not happy with Watson being that low down the order. He's too technically correct to be of any use when Australia needs to slog. Have him opening or out of the team, he's a liability batting where he is at the moment.

Agree a bit. Hayden really threw a spanner in the works when he his such good form while watson/gilly were out. Ideally I think the selectors wanted Watson/Gilly to open.

Still I would much rather go in with 3 in form openers and have one down the order than an unreliable opening combination.

It'll be interesting to see how Symonds goes, his first game back from injury. He said that hes been bowling in the nets for about the last 10 days, so he must be somewhere near 100%. Should be a good contest, and Symonds adds so much to the Australian team.

Well, given that we've just dropped our most inform player over the last two months, Australia don't deserve to win. Not that that should be any excuse, SA are stronger, more confident and more unified at this point in time anyway. Our only advantage would be to have a spin bowler of any merit. But since theres only Hogg, there is no advantage to be had. A sobering flogging for the Australians i fear.

our great nation australia will demilish its oppositions like a steam roll.

i feel for the sout africans especially SAFFER!!

RSA won the toss and elected to bowl. Both captain are quite happy.

Ripper shot by Gilly.
0/24 from 3 overs.
Just remember, it's the rematch. The first match since that epic 5th one dayer last year.
Could we have a runfest again?

Cheering for Australia all the way in this one. Anybody but the South Africans.

24/0 (3)

I think South Africa made a mistake in bowling first, like India did yesterday.

Agree with ya! Just remember who beat Aus when they last scored a 400. Hehe. :D

Lightning doesn't usually strike twice :p

Bowlers are bowling too legsideish. I feel something big coming.
Something to do with cricket or my internet being d/c.

SHOT! Smashes it over the top of the diving fieldsman and it goes for 4.

4? Yes! Haydos jsut carress' that into the offside and it runs away. The outfield is so quick!

Hehe, but ppl forget which side is #1. :)

Eish, this ground is too small. Anyone wanna predict a score? I say over 425.

The last match between these 2, a great catch had to be taken to get rid of an opener (Gilchrist) before that brought Punter in. I think they'll need something special again.

People will be thinking if Aus keep scoring at this rate there is as much of a chacne SA will do as well; I don't think thats true. If Aus keep hammering 'em away, SA will be morally down for their innings with the bat where as Aus will feel they can carry on and be destructive with the ball too. Thats my 2 cents

Adam Gilchrist has been dismissed by Pollock 12 times in ODI cricket.

Just woke up - 0-65 so far after 8

In the last SA-Aus game (i.e. 438), SA just came out with no pressure as it was impossible to win and did things methodically. Remember in Twenty20 they play at these high run rates all the time. Don't write off SA batting.

4 more runs to Hayden. Inside edge goes to the fine leg boundary.

4 more straight down the ground. This is a batting clinic with Hayden.
