"Babar Azam is one of the most exciting young talents I've seen in a long time" : Kumar Sangakkara

Sangakkara said this at the post match ceremony and also said that he has a great future for Pakistan. If there's one thing to look forward to in Pakistan cricket it's this guy.

getting such a praise from Sanga is a huge confidence boost, he was excellent today

Yes.

But the other day Viv Richards said Ahmed Shehzad is a great talent and we're yet to see the best of him.

Don't go by these statements, they obviously will praise their own team's players. No brainer.

Even though Sanga is past his prime, its great that young bats like Babar get to play alongside and learn from him.

The main thing sanga said was after that comment and to paraphrase he said once u have made it to the national setup it is up to YOU how far you want to take it with ur hard work
THAT IS THE KEY!

Lets hope Babar can learn under Sanga... he still has a long way to go

Yes.

Just because Islamabad didn't understand what Babar is then doesn't mean statements from the greats of the game doesn't matter.
They clearly know a lot more than us. We're just arm chair experts...

Hopefully he can sort out his SR in ODIs. Then he could be really good.

The way he was playing today was amazing , on a tough pitch he was hitting so easily and that was amazing to see.
The intent was there and he was hitting it with command, so if he has that intent in internationals then it'll be great for Pakistan

Absolutely.

We've all said he's the best batting prospect in Pakistan and has been since the age of 15.

It'll be a travesty if he doesn't go on to become a great batsman.

I bet Islamabad United are regretting letting him go now.

After the departures of Sharjeel and Latif, they don't have any half decent local batsman besides Misbah.

It's a bit misleading. He's started off very slow in the recent past.

Hence I said ''except in the recent series against Australia''.

His other 17 innings were all at a faster strike rate hence his overall SR.

Best knock of the tournament so far

Why because he is a Pakistani. Let's not create this hype up. Babar Azam is a good talent and played a good innings. But to say it was the knock of the tournament so far is going overboard. If full overs were played and he sw his team home with getting a unbeaten 60 or so then yes maybe it would been. But Billings and Rossouw innings were better.

But happy to see Babar Azam doing well and batting at a good strike rate. Let's hope he can get some more big runs in the coming games.

Babar is a gem. The only reason he won't end up as a great is if he starts to lose focus. Sharing a dressing room with Sanga & Mahela can only help

Agree. Today showing he can play proper shots when he plays with confidence.
But sharing the dressing room with the likes of Hafeez, Azhar and Umar Akmal it don't look to great. But hoping he doesn't listen to any of the so called senior batsmens in Pakistan team but play his game with help from a decent coach who can take his game the next level.

Slightly higher backlift and a bit more forward press to get his head on top of the front-foot, he will become unstoppable.

What do u expect him to say when the reporter asks him of Babar Azam. Obviously he isn't gona say negative things. We have hear many people say same thing abt umar akmal and Ahmed shehzad. Let's see if he can consistently put up good scores before we hype him to the moon like we did with umar

correct, i heard that too... looks like it didnt seek the attention it has to...I repost it..

But Azam is actually doing well

Umm yeah, but that's not what I was talking about.

Just because Islamabad didn't understand what Babar is then doesn't mean statements from the greats of the game doesn't matter.

That's the wrong logic I mentioned. Just because a good cricketer praised a player doesn't mean they really meant it or they're right.

Example - Viv singing praises of Shehzad, or Razzaq claiming Shehzad > Tendulkar.

I didn't like the view of imad explaining him to tie down, when he flicked watson. Because sometimes you are seeing ball like a football and once in groove ..changing gears will make you more vulnerable.
He will learn from here.

Then that's Shehzads fault that he didn't deliver what was expected of him and started to think that he's the Bradman of the game already and lost his head...

He definitely had potential and that's why he got such praises but as Sanga also said in his comment that its upto you how much effort you put in to take you as far...
And Pakistani players aren't hardworking..

I bet Islamabad United are regretting letting him go now.

After the departures of Sharjeel and Latif, they don't have any half decent local batsman besides Misbah.

They utilized him so much in the one game they played him in. Wow

I'd take these former players opinion regarding their domestic teammates with a pinch of salt.

Obviously they r supposed to say good things about them. Just think about Warne and how he used to praise Indian trundlers when he was coaching/playing for RR.

Sangakkara said this at the post match ceremony and also said that he has a great future for Pakistan. If there's one thing to look forward to in Pakistan cricket it's this guy.

He also mentioned Usama, Even Misbah mentioned Usama...this guy seems to be a real deal

Whilst Babar is indeed a great talent - I predict he will be a far better LOI player than a Test player.

Babar Azam needs to play like this more..

In the Pakistan team, he knows he is a cut above the rest, so he batting an air of arrogance 'that I'm the best you have and I know it'
so he plays as if he has to represent himself the best of the bad lot... in that team you have players like Hafeez, Akmal and Malik, you don't have to do much to outdo them...

In Karachi Kings, atleast he feels competition for his spot, he feels pressure to perform and he is surrounded by a bit more quality, which helps raise his game, it was a very short and clinical knock from him... kept the rate in check, and really hit Sami out of the attack with aggressive counter punching which put ISL on the back foot from the first over

Only Sharjeel was able to do better than him..

lol thanks. this is the great unknown in all of this! and surprised more people didnt comment on that part of sangas statement.
just look at how umar and shezzy went off the rails!
good thing about babar is that he doesnt seem to want the limelight and comes across a little apprehensive in interviews from the little i have seen. so that brashness isnt there

inshaAllah he has the right support network to focus on his game only

i agree with this. if there is competition for places and you r actually interested in doing well (unlike cousin and selfie) than u r forced to raise your game

Absolutely agree.Happy that somebody picked it up as well. With a slighty higher backlift he is going to get a really good bat swing which is paramount, along with other things, while hitting the big shots contrary to the popular belief that you need to be a big muscular player.

Yes these young players like Babar and the budding players like shadab, hassan khan, Usama mir need the mentors like Sanga who not only teach the game but also the intellect to shine above the rest with sheer hardwork... UA and AS are the victims of chasing the superstar logo flash, following AFRIDI...

Babar is Excellent prospect but such statements given by team mates are generally mundane and fake.

A very good batsmen, working with Mickey has helped Babar. Also Babar can learn a lot from Sangakara. That's a good thing about these t20 leagues.

Yes but once again I'll state -

Azam is actually doing well in international cricket.
Shehzad isn't.

So Sanga praising him right now isn't like Razzaq or Viv praising Shehzad out of the blue when he wasn't even performing/dropped

Of course coaches/players are going to praise people in their side or in a tournament where they are making money...

Like Brendan McCullum the other week saying there is a lot of talent in Pakistan when there isn't any.

Still suspect against spin. I think he should open for Pak as well so we can hide him against spinners. He will score more freely against pace with fielding restrictions on, it was evident today as he started the innings pretty aggressively and got stuck latter on when spinners came.

still not convinced with his power hitting when power play is over .i hope he can find a way

keep your feet on the ground and work as hard as you possibly can.

That is all I can say

The commies were talking about kohli, when Babar was batting and him being an example for him (in terms of stature).

He should do the same thing and add some muscle.

He has the timing and everything, but that extra force behind his shots will help him a lot and take him to next level, like it did for Kohli.

Babar is the sort of player you should build your team around. I don't understand people saying he can't power hit the ball. Why should he if he can get boundaries with proper cricketing strokes. If only he adds a few more singles he'd be "The Babar".

It's a bit misleading. He's started off very slow in the recent past.

There is nothing wrong with his strike rate. He can play at a quicker clip but he has the temperament to grind it out when he is not timing the ball as well or finding gaps. This is something that should be commended because it is extremely rare in a Pakistani batsmen. Most batsmen after a slower start gift their wickets away, Babar makes sure he still goes onto score big. This helps others around him play with confidence, prevents collapses and helps Pakistan post respectable totals consistently.

His poor form continues. Needed to fire in a pressure match. Can he handle the pressure or he is just another minnow basher?

I hope he is not a softie. Can't afford our best batting talent in years to go on that road.

Babar is only good enough to score against West Indies - minnow basher!

The shot he played today I have a right to ask if he can handle the pressure?

Averages over 50+ against Australia and new zeland at their home says otherwise.

Yaar did u see his feet movement today ?

It was a terrible delivery, he is our best batsman and his shot was absolute rubbish.

Was really disappointing.

I did and I already said it was a very poor innings by him. But calling him a minnow basher is uncalled for specially at this stage of his carter and also has has performed against pretty much every team he has played against.

Yes that is a fair opinion.

He looks like a class act. Destined to be one of Pakistan's greatest ever with the bat.

Poor shot to get out.

Didn't read the delivery at alland got his feet tangled up.

Looked good and looked like he could have gone on and made a big score.

Does he have match winning innings in him or is he a run accumulator
