Waqar Younis thinks so and so do I!

But can he take the pressure? Seems to have no issues in ODIs so maybe just a matter of time and persistence.

Yes, Mickey shouldn't have moved him just because Asad lacks the guts to bat there. He shuffled around the order too much in one go.

He did say he prefers 3 so I think maybe he should cos he looks much more assured against pace than spin.

It is history now that unnecessary shuffling in the batting order to accommodate Shan Masood cost them a test series against a low in confidence Lanka side. Many of us here thought Azhar is the best batsman for a test opener 5 years ago got the chance under Mickey and proved the prediction right. Same like babar Sami and now imam proving that they are top order batsman.

His concentration levels in FC game are pretty poor and thats translated into test cricket, the fact hes got out so close to end of sessions or start of sessions show he switches off to often. Also he needs to improve how he plays spin to real have a decent test career.

the reason he's failing in test right now because of fielders all around him. In ODs field is spread and he can take singles easily, in Test not so much and that's where he struggles and gets under pressure

Waqar repeating that sentiment again.

Waqar, Rashid Latif & co sit in studios giving it the large, put them in charge & theyl recycle the old rubbish briniging back the hafeez’s akmals maliks & benching youngsters.

No, he should gradually move up. He should bat at 4 tho.

I believe if this happen it would Pakistans best ever lineup,

Luv watching babar azam when playing so classy.
No place for asad shafiq.

He needs to bat at 3 or 4. Shafiq has good numbers at 6, he doesn't seem capable of taking responsbillity so shouldn't be batting ahead of Babar.

Yea, but Babar did really poorly in Australia last time. I would keep him at 5-6 at until after the SA + Aus. tours. Shafiq should bat in the Top 4 or be dropped for Saad/Saud.

1 poor series wasn't enough time. He should have gotten a UAE series up the order. He looks in good form in tests. Need to take advantage of that.

Too late now. Pak. have wasted this series playing Azhar at 3. Looks like that will backfire in SA. The next UAE series is in 11 months.

He needs to swap with Shafiq for now. By 2020, he can be down to number 4/3, depending upon how he evolves.

Shafiq clearly can only bat at #6, he just does not have game to promoted up, too unreliable. Plus he bats well with tail and not that good at top.

That is all I can say for Pakistan correctly.

Harris sohail's death eater following disagrees. Been saying this for ages, he would set the tone perfectly for scoring at a regular 3.5 rr

Pakistan struggle to hit 3 rpo even on a flat deck

Agree. Azhar Ali should never be the batting fulcrum for any team.
