Babar's SR since the champions trophy hasnot been half decent ,kudos to the lad for scoring runs consistantly but he really has to look at his SR ,its deteriorated from 90 to 85 . Shouldnt he be worried?

No if he can make lots of centuries i dont mind that kind of strike rate and i think mickey and pakistan team understand he is the guy who will hold the innings together and from the other end someone can hit few boundires.

I don't think you know what deteriorated means...

Slipped, yes. Deteriorated, no.

He’s been playing on the dead tracks of the UAE and having to stabilise the innings. Naturally his strike rate would be lower. I fully expect him to pick up his strike rate in NZ

Much ado over nothing. If you don't need to score at 90 then you don't need to score at 90.

I agree.
It’s a pathetic strike rate.. he’ll be more useful to us if he scores 20’s and 30’s with a 100/120 strike rate.

Wow you guys are complaining on his strike rate? But cant see his average of 57 and when was the last time we got a batsmen who consistently scored runs for us?

yes he should be worried that he has Umar Akmal ready to fill in if it further "deteriorates" to 84! thats completely unacceptable even if you score centuries and fifties!

Lol how the tides change. Two years earlier we had a lot of people defending players with strike rates in the 60s batting much lower than him and now we are raising questions over Baber's 85 strike rate despite batting at 3.

It's a good thing though. But you cannot expect more from Baber. This is the best he can deliver. He is not in the league of Kohli,Smith,Amla who can play big shots when set. Baber's game is a bit slower but it's working for Pakistan. All we need is a reliable power hitter down the order and a genuine all rounder. Our batting is quite weak at the moment and these changes are required.

In just four months, he's dropped to 85 SR. If he keeps deterioating at that rate, in about 5 and a half years is SR will be Zero. Which is unacceptable.

OMG how could he.. and his avg is only 101.00 since the champions trophy, that is unacceptable

Babar is better at hitting big than Amla and Smith..

He played a low scoring 5 match series. In fact those are the only matches he has played since the champions trophy. How could his SR not come down? He was scoring runs at a very good rate in the T20 series against the world XI so just calm down.

you have to think about the matches he played. First, as others have pointed out, they are on slower surfaces in the UAE, so his strike-rate is bound to be lower. Second, in a few of those games, he was under pressure as wickets had fallen, and had to anchor the innings, see it till the last five overs or so.

Don't make the same mistake England did - valuing aggression over match awareness.

lol he has been playing in UAE on these awful slow pitches where all the batsmen struggle to score quickly.

Thats not a huge drop and as people here said, the pitches are slow and difficult to score. I would gladly have a player averaging 60 at a SR of 85.

Honestly he has not really had to accelerate due to the fact that the scores he was chasing were so low that he had no need to play faster.

LOL Gintoki in your prof pic would've said something similar to that. I see why you have him on

101.00 AVG at 75 SR.

Oh the horror.

:))

It's important to note the pitches have been sluggish. Especially Abu Dhabi.

The concern of OP is genuine and holds merit. But we should also realize that its purely due to useless pitches.

PCB seriously needs to reconsider venues for their "home ground". I think England is the best place for them. Good crowd support. Just need to identify venues which dont support swing and seam too much and allow the ball to turn a bit. Perhaps Birmingham and some other venue. Just need 2 or 3 at max.

His average would be of no use if he plays with such SR in Australia or England

Yes he needs to pace his innings better. His SR should not drop below 80 at any stage of his innings, just like it doesn't drop for the other top ODI batsmen today. These days he scores his first 50 odd runs very slowly, which will cost the team against quality opposition on flat pitches.

He needs to bat like he did in the Champions Trophy final.

LOL... spare the guy.. does it matter if he's winning matches

He should be able to take the pitch out of the equation and have the ability to hit each ball for a 6, irrespective of who is bowling to him and what the ball is doing.

All these useless hundreds mean nothing unless the strike rate is higher then 100. Its not about winning, its about scoring fast.

pointless thread but one thing is for sure we need to move HOME to England if we want home advantage then the best seamers in the world should be bowling on green tops & not uae roads ps full house every game guaranteed

So, I was talking to a Friend about Babar Azam and he was of the believe that Babar is like Sachin not Kohli. He will make centuries but not impactful.

To quote him "century to bana leta hai but match pasa kar chala jata ha".

Babar has room to improve and he also has the talent, we need to be patient and give him time.

Plays way too slowly until he reaches 50,then he accelerates. Just needs to fix that and then we can compare him to the top players
