I fully agree with Lala on workload management, Pakistan’s greatest resource is it’s pace attack, and it’s three front line pacers are all out due to be overplayed.

So who will help Babar- Afridi was limited, Inzi was limited, MY was limited, Misbah was ok and YK was actually quite decent. Who provide the guidance? I suggested Nasser and Mark Taylor as guys that help him think on his feet in the middle of matches

If anyone really wants what’s best for Babar as a batsman, they will tell him to stop his petulance, step down as captain and concentrate on his batting.

Someone should also tell him some cold hard truths that people aren’t dumb and can see through his stat padding.

Saj is this also a similar statement to what Shabz Sharif said about Ramiz? Do you recon the marching orders are on the way?

If you really want to help Babar and Pakistan team, relieve him from captaincy. How many more tests and series we have to lose before realizing he is not a captaincy material , at all.

Such is Babars incompetency, that the Chief Selector has to step in choosing the playing eleven

To me, you can read into this that it's a message to Babar to up his game as skipper and just because he's a world-class batter it doesn't mean that he will continue to be the skipper.

To make this statement at the start of his tenure as chief selector is interesting to say the least.

Decent statements. It's not just Afridi who is saying how final eleven selections and tactics have been poor in tests. Everyone is saying that. Babar also needs to let go of friendships when it comes to international cricket. There's no place for Usman Qadir in any squad.

There is no place for Rizwan in the white ball squads either

I don't think you can teach captaincy. Either you are a good captain or you are not.

Babar seems too introverted/private for a captaincy position.

True.

The selectors, PCB hierarchy, coaches and team-mates can only do so much to help a captain. The rest is up to the skipper himself.

Either you've got it, or you haven't.

I don’t think he listens or takes on the advice/help given to him

Babar will go down in History as our Sachin. Great batsmen not good enough captain!

So Afridi said “jab tak woh kaptaan hai”

Seems like he knows what’s coming

Captaincy traits needs to come naturally. You cannot teach them. If Shan is a regular than he is a better choice. Seems to have a mature head on his sholders.

Correct. Its wishful thinking by Shahid Afridi to make a successful captain out of Babar.

It's like saying, yes you are captain, but not forever. We are now watching you.

That's it -- no shame in that.
Tendulkar, Root, Botham, Lara ...great players but poor captains.
Is Babar prepared to be mature enough to understand that, play as a batsman and be loyal to the new skipper ?

One more uninspiring result with poor captaincy and Babar will be history as captain.

Wo wo wo- we have lost the last 4 tests ( and there have been mitigating circumstances) but results were good before then.
He deserves a chance to get through this sticky patch.
I don't think he is good enough, but when we have our first choice bowlers- he gets more chance to focus on his batting- which for Pakistan may be the best option given the lack of plausible alternative

He is a terrible test captain, no one has guts to tell him that ?

I’m positive Afridi probably already has told him that. The thread title you see is a diplomatic way of saying it to the public. It implies that he’s a poor captain. In person I think Afridi gave it to him straight.

Afridi’s qualifications can be questioned, but he won’t mince words, which is probably the biggest selling point of his appointment especially when you have a yes man coach. Babar needs some tough love for sure, or he’ll continue on without learning anything new.

Funny statement from Afridi - "We can help Babar in areas where we feel improvements can be made regarding his captaincy" -- Does the new selection committee come with greater responsibility like also providing training classes on captaincy best practices in addition to selecting players?
In any case, I'd be wary of listening to Afridi - if he could think he would have retired with a Sehwag type average.

Yes, now we have Mr Run Away Captain Afridi giving Babar advice. Absolutely shocking! The circus continues. What a joke Pakistan has become.

Check out his batting stats as captain. They are crazy barring t20s where I don't mind him stepping down

But isn't it Afridi and the new regime calling the shots from behind....then who's to be blamed for the loss, if it happens

Babar is the best batsman we developed in 000s. We had some posters ******** about his batting as if he had become a bad batsman.

Afridi is the last person to give tips on captaincy. As you mentioned he ran away midway through an England tour and left the team in hands of fixer Salman Butt.

He oversaw the twin disasters that were the 2016 Asia Cup and 2016 T20 World Cup, and left our T20 side ranked 7th.

He also bit the ball on worldwide TV in Australia, and then claimed he was just trying to smell it.

Adding Sarfaraz for Babar, forcing his hand has proven to be a master stroke

Babar should just focus on his batting and leading the team as a captain..

His involvement in selection has proved to be atrocious... Also looks like he has a fear of losing his captain armband and selects players via friendships/parchis/chamchas and not good enough, not paying attention to the end results..

Now this stupidity might cost him and his place as captain.. he should leave the selection to selectors themselves and blame them if their parchis dont perform and also if ends as costly mistake...

Another not-so-great day for Babar as Test skipper.

Lacking creativity and ideas on a surface that needs some out of the box thinking from a skipper.
