The Bangladesh Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday instructed all broadcasters in the country to stop airing the Indian Premier League.
The directive followed the exclusion of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2026 season. In the aftermath, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, citing security concerns, had also decided not to play their T20 World Cup matches in India and formally requested the ICC to relocate their fixtures.
The broadcasting ban was issued through an official notification on Monday (January 5), signed by assistant secretary Firoz Khan. It applies to all IPL matches and related programming and will remain in effect until further notice.

According to the notice, the ministry took cognisance of the decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to leave Mustafizur out of the KKR squad for the IPL season scheduled to begin on March 26, 2026.
"No reasonable justification for such a decision is known," the notification stated. "Such a decision has hurt, distressed and angered the people of Bangladesh.
"In these circumstances, it is requested, by order, that all matches and programmes of the Indian Premier League be stopped from broadcast and transmission until further instructions," it added, noting that the directive was issued in the public interest with approval from the appropriate authorities.

Give minnows an inch and they would want a mile. It is clear Jay Shah and present BCCI regime is worthless. They will not be able to do anything. We need Modi Ji's Lal Ankh now.

India tried to bully Bangladesh but they in response banned IPL in the country, now what step will India take, only time will tell, Ind was not expecting retaliation from Bangladesh🙂

Lets see India s next move to bully them financially .

Don't forget that even India was a minnow in cricket for many years, and even today we remain minnows in several sports, football being the most prominent. :yk :inti

how much revenue will BCCI lose over this?

The major money maker for them is illegal betting and match fixing market, so I dont think this ban will impact that revenue stream much.

IPL is going to bankrupt as some minnow nations banned the live telecast. What a devastating blow , how can we recover from this ? :klopp :kp
The BCCI needs to urgently come up with a back up plan to negate this loss.

Very good. IPL is overrated. I also suspect IPL has a lot of spot-fixings/match-fixings. :inti
Bangladesh should show BBL (#1 league), PSL, CPL, BPL, English T20, and Dubai T20 league. :inti

Feel sad for the people of Bangladesh who are going to miss out on some world class cricket. Not much happening in their lives otherwise. Won't be surprised if this leads them to start another revolution and more killing each other and lynchings and instability.

Bangladesh and Pakistani market is too poor and immature to make a difference. But I admire the Bangladeshi stance, that was no way to treat Fizz.

Isn't Bangladesh a sovereign country?
They should be able to what they can.

Some vishwaguru we will be with this attitude.

I am sorry but I have stopped talking with liberals for a long time. @Varun or @pillionrider will be your best bet.

Can you pls include Mr Rahul Bose in your group?

:kp
I wouldn't consider myself liberal. I kind of dislike the typical liberal's views.

I'm more on the side of what is true, facts, science-based. Depending on the topic, I would have leftist, liberal and right-leaning views.

I guess that would make me a true Hindu I suppose :dhoni (barring the non-scientific bits), because a true Hindu wouldn't be black or white about things and would have seemingly contradictory views, depending on context.

You should make me the leader of your group. It would be educational :)

On topic, let's see if they actually ban it. I don't trust anything Pakistani or Bangladeshi cricket governance says, because a Uturn is usually round the corner.

Hello, BD have a new sports minister now. They might unban the IPL. IPL was banned after Fizz was ousted from IPL. With that being said, with zero representation from BD players, no one will probably care anyways.

India cannot afford a talent like MustaFizz.

Time for India to rope in Rubel Hossain to get back the BD viewership. Do it Jay Shah before it’s too late. :mv

Rubel Hossain's home bowling average is 104.21 which is almost double his away bowling average.

Zahir Uddin Swapan, the newly appointed information and broadcasting minister, said there is no bar on telecasting the upcoming Indian Premier League in Bangladesh.

Earlier, Aminul Haque, the state minister for youth and sports, had told Cricbuzz that they would speak with the concerned authorities regarding the IPL broadcast after it was banned by the previous interim government.

"No one applied to us to telecast the IPL. We don't want to mix politics with sport. We will look at it from a commercial perspective, and if any channel applies to telecast the IPL, we will consider it positively," Swapan was quoted as saying by Deutsche Welle.

When asked whether Star Sports can telecast the IPL, Swapan indicated that it could.

"We will not bar anyone from telecasting it. If Star Sports want to telecast it, they can. If any of our channels want to telecast it, we will take it positively, but we will not force anything," he said.

The Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh's office secretary, Rezaul Karim Lablu, said they will not stop Star Sports from telecasting the IPL as there are no directives from the government in this regard.

"If Star Sports telecast the IPL in Bangladesh, they can do it because no one has asked us to stop it," Lablu said.

"Those directives of the interim government do not have any value. If this government asks us to stop it, we will do so, because the previous government's directives are no longer in place," he added.

Earlier, the Professor Yunus-led government had banned the IPL from being telecast in Bangladesh.

Comedy. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Bangladeshi fans were, unjustly being deprived of the pleasure of the IPL under a rather unfortunate regime. Now, with democracy restored, these passionate supporters finally have fortune on their side and they may enjoy IPL spectacle this year. Congratulations to Bangladesh supporters !

Don bradman of bowling...

Anyway I don't think they will go to IPL until the things in ICC get resolved.

Rubel hasn't played for Bangladesh in a long time. He is from the past era (back when BD pace attack was far inferior).

Current bunch of BD Test pacers --> Shoriful, Nahid Rana, Hassan Mahmud, Taskin, Khaled, Ebadot.

How the winds change. Current government is doing everything in their power to cozy up to India. Bangladeshi players will soon be back in IPL.
Younis was puppet of USA and Pakistan. After New Government , Bangladesh is trying to appease India weather in cricket or poltics. .

Line pe aa RAHE hai ye log. .. :kp

its funny how your saying this now, you never said this before this incident
Surprised that you had the time and energy to dig through 1000s of posts from a random unknown member in a cricket forum just to check this! I wish varun too had this much of time at his disposal so he may say things prior to any dramas.

Supplying some diesel to help them through the current crisis does make them re evaluate their path.

Yunus was a total disaster. It's good that the current bangla govt knows what it's priorities are.

IPL should remain banned. As a matter of fact, I support banning all Indian stuff in Bangladesh. :inti
Why would you not want good relationship between neighboring countries.

Very hazy anti India lens. Time to change your specs.
