Steyn picks a wicket in the 1st over. BAN playing only 3 front line bowlers which is NOT a good idea.

I expect this test to be over in 2.5 days with SA dominating.
BAN will surprise some people in this test match. I am just a touch disappointed that they didn't play 4 front line bowlers.

You want take that Faisal.

2 down now

Well you have some sort of platform in order to "collapse." You just can't collapse from nothing!

Morne morkel in with two wickets....the pitch is really flat and he's looking good and back to decent fitness...not lighting fast but consitantly in the 140's .

The usual crash bang wallop from the BD batsmen.

166 for 8 so far.

Is he the really tall bowler? Any good?

Bangladesh have shown no prgress in test cricket since been given status, they have probably got alot worse! They need to show more application because it is substandard!

Talent seems to be there though

great to see the Pace revival continue.

another tall, strong quickie...with a pretty ballistic sounding name.

YEAH!

so now we have
steyn, morkel, malinga, asif, gul, ishant, sreesanth, johnson, (tait?), taylor all on the horizon.

Don't think there have been so many fascinating quicks emerging together for a loooong long time - not since the early 90s anyway (vicky, bishop, amby, mgrath, gough all emerging together)

Now if ONLY england get troy cooley back and turn their roughs into diamonds...

Since the world cup their completed Test innings scores are: 238, 118, 253, 89,254, 62, 299, 131, 176, 137, 254, 143, 113, 192.

76/4. end of day 1. 2 wickets each for Shahadat hossain and Rafique.

Prince still in and de villiers and Boucher still to come. Bangla would need to bowl out S.A for 200 to stay in match!

If you guys had watched the match i swear you would have wanted to slap the BD front line batters.
1) tamim - well his out was a freakish one. bat then pad and then looped up.
2) Zunaid - grrr!! hair pulling stuff.
3) Habibul Bashar - 50 test match. Thank you. Now please bow out. Time has passed you. We have better players in the wing.
4) Ash - O man!! When will he learn the meaning of test? What are we testing here? Does patience ring any bell?
5) S Nafees - More hair pulling stuff. Giving is fine, but not your wicket??
6) Aftab - read S Nafees.
7) Shakib - Read Aftab.
Till this point except the first out none of them were suppose to happen. Gift warpped with a bow.

The bowlers did a commandable job. hats off to Shahadat and Rafique. This is Rafique's last test series and he will be retiring. he needs 4 more wickets to get to 100 test wickets. Inshallah he will get it before he walks under the raised bats of his fellow team mates.

412/9 in the practice match. 192 in the real one??? Very dissapointing. I thought we had them this time.

Having watched the wickets of the BD batsman, it was like they were playing a twenty/20 match. Too many flashy, high risk strokes that are totally unecessary in test cricket. Having said that though, their bowlers have helped them claw their way back into this test.

I think they were not aware that IPL auctions were over. :p

Why do they keep doing it? They keep getting bowled out for pathetic totals over and over again and never learn. :20:

I have no idea why. Only explanation may be lack of education and all are under 24 (except Habibul Bashar), may be? Just think what type of frustration we are in. Another 100 runs we would be in real control of this match.

I don't think age might have something to do with it. They are not used to playing 4 day matches, 5 day matches often enough. I really like to know what is highest number of balls faced by a Bangladeshi batsman in a test match also highest number of time spent at the crease.

Beat them. Then India will take care of them in the upcoming tour. :p

Bangladesh has to start playing more tests and domestic first class matches and 4-5 players should be sent to other countries to play first class cricket. They probably also need half the ODI team to be just playing ODIs. Ofcourse the players will choose the ODIs and leave tests if that was the case now. Though I like watching tests better but if a choice is given I will play ODIs instead as there are more ODI games and money is almost same for playing for one day as playing for 5 days. So increase the test fee as that requires a lot more work to succeed and reduce ODI fee drastically and ODI players can rely more on fame/endorsements.

(actually Paksitan should be doing the same)

Didn't Bangladesh had a contract with ACB a year or two ago and the young players were getting trained by them? Were they only focusing on ODIs and WC?

May be have incentives like.. For every 50 ball survival you get some money :p

You may be correct.
In domestic cricket there is only 10 first class matches one can play (4 day game). National team players may get to play only 5 matches because of national duties. I guess that is where one learns how to play longer version of the game and how to stay in the wicket. Also our bowling quality, pitches are bad. Thus gives wrong impression against any test attack.

Tamim's elder brother Nafis Iqbal was a true test player before he got injured. In forth innings he played an innings of 133 facing 355 balls. The opening stand saw of 83 overs chasing 373 with almost two days to play. Javed Omar his partner scored 43 out of 258 balls. Almost 500 ball partnership against a toothless Zim attack. Eventually they drew the match and won the only series to date. In the first test ever played by BD, they stayed 153.3 overs (400 1st innings against India). Against Zim they had another 149.3 overs (488 allout 1st innings) and 142 overs (285/5 second innings), 135 overs (413 1st innings against WI).

Good to see BAN fighting back.
Shakib is a very useful ODI bowler but i don't think he has the ability to take too many wickets at the test level so instead of one of the top order batsmen i would have gone in to the match with Abdur Razzaq .

We were almost sure of his inclusion. Then on game day things some how changed and Habibul Bashar played. grrr!!!! Knowing SA are not comfortable playing SLAs WC and other tours either enam Jr. or Abdur Razzaq needed to be in with Rafique. Hopefully management will come to sense in the 2nd test. AR is also a good lower order batsman.

shahadat "rajib" bowled the spell of his life. at one point with figures of 4-3-2-2...also had kallis trapped plumb for a third wicket, but withdrew his appeal for whatever reason. the replays showed that kallis hit pad first.

i hope we can keep south africa under 300 (under 225 optimally)

hey, lets not forget that when we come out bat, in all likelyhood the tone of the thread will revert to the "bangla sucks" kind...hehe

but i hope we can get a 10 run lead, score 300, and bowl SA out.

chasing on this pitch will prolly not be too easy.

Man what the hell happened to the Saffies!? Well played Bangla...! Now just don't screw it up down the stretch.

Bangla Tiger - You go man. We are rooting for a BD win here. Lets start with a first inning lead, even if 1 run. :D

Amra Korbo Joy :27:

This S Hussian guy seems like a real talent!

Shahadat Hossain, also known as "Rajib" is one of the fastest BD bowlers on the scene.

He definitely bowled his heart out.

Fantastic stuff from Bangladesh . What can I say....i'm stunned . S.A seem to love to lose the first game in every test series .

saffer do you know why Harris and Nel aren't playing?

Both are injured .

Does the speed gun seemed messed up to anyone else , or is the pitch just really slow ? Ntini in the 120's and steyn in the 130's ?

Speaking about Nel injured.....hopefully with morne morkel on the scene and monde zondeki bowling well we never need to see that idiot again on an intenrnational cricket field .

Bangladesh doing well here , if they get 250 then I think they will win the game easily .

So these are the one who is challenging Australia?

There's no doubt when South Africa play to their potential that they are the second best team in the world after Australia . Just give credit to bangladesh who with a few confidence boosting wins can become a real good cricket team .

Its certainly messed up. Steyn bowled a bouncer which was so quick that Boucher had to jump for it yet the speed gun showed it to be 112 KPH.

p.s On the tours of sub continent SA should always play Nel ahead of Ntini.

Nel is useless . The fact he has played for so many years is a freak mistake of fate . He manages to get 1 or two wicjets every innings just doing enough to stay in the side . South africa have match winners in morkel and zondeki who should play everytime ahead of nel .

Ntini is the man and they should never drop him...the most popukar sportsman in south africa voted a few years in a row .

Actually I rate this Johan Botha...a south african spin bowler who actually turns the ball and bowls a doosra . Harris has done amazingly well even in south african conditions...but I don't think it will last . Botha for me is the guy for the future .

When you look at Ntini's bowling.. one would think even 6 year old kid will play him comfortably. I think he should be dropped if South Africa is playing on subcontinent pitches.

Dude, top 4 batsmen of India made 100 not long ago in Bangladesh.. And Bangladesh lost by big margins in Srilanka and NZ. But SA is struggling here.

Yeah...whatever . SA beat india and new zealand easily in the last year . Just give bangladesh credit for playing well...cricket is a funny game and anything can happen....whih is why I love it .

Yeah...he's not bowling badly but the conditions don't suit his seam movement style ..that's for sure .

india and saffies are on even keel.

india, a more solid batting side. (saffers are a joke right now.)

saffie, miles ahead in bowling.

Ntini is the biggest bouncy track bully that i have ever seen. If the pitch doesn't have much bounce then i would take Nel over Ntini 10/10 times.

I don't agree about indian batting . They play on flat wickets all the time which flatters their talent . When they play in S.A these so called stars can't even notch up a 20 or 30 . We will play them next month in their own conditions and I do expect them to prepare flat spinner friendly wickets....which will be at their peril ....S.A is probably the best batting team aginst spin in the world right now....they did nothing but focus on improving that for the last 4 years .

More seam track bully than bounce bully....he needs to ball to move off the seam to get batsmen caught out . Nel is just useless....he wouldn't do anything on this wicket either .

mate, sehwag, tendy, ganguly and laxman all dominated Oz this summer (granted they were without Mcgrath and warnie)

the indians also competed well on their last southafrican tour, going down 2-1.

flat track bullies? not any more. we probably do better in england's seaming conditions than you guys or other asian teams or for that matter anyone bar australia.

so dont think you can blame pancake pitches entirely. yes, it used to be the case before until the 90s..but now these guys have proved themselves. once the Fab Four retire, I guess the new generation will hafta prove themselves from scratch.

Just read some disappointing news - Tino Best quits windies to join ICL.

He had real fyah. the selectors just didnt show the faith they showed fidel edwards.

Bangla 115/4 - Lead 137

Bangla need another 100 to maybe cause a shock here...
