KARACHI: Former international cricketer Mahmood Hamid has accused Pakistan women cricket team coach Basit Ali of slapping him during a domestic one-day match in National Stadium Karachi.

Mahmood Hamid said Basit Ali slapped him for criticizing him due to the three official posts that he has occupied.

Basit Ali is coach of Pakistan women cricket team, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) team and Chief Selector of junior team.

On the other hand, Basit Ali has denied any accusation of slapping Mahmood Hamid.

Earlier this week, Mahmood Hamid had criticised the performances of the Pakistan international women cricket team and the Under-19 team. Basit Ali is also a selector of the U-19 team. –Samaa

He should be fired. If this is how he reacts after getting criticised then he should also not give his opinions and criticise others on news channels.

How can he slap...

That's a fair criticism to make. Not one that needed to be met with physical violence.

In other news, sikander bakht has gone into hiding

Pakistani people need to take anger management classes, I notice that WAY TOO many Pakistanis have a tendency of slapping people (especially minors) just cause they lost their cool or hurt their fragile ego.

The criticism is quite valid though. Why does he have so many posts? And all of them are quite important and a full time job except maybe the selector post which also needs to be occupied by an unbiased individual not the coach of a domestic team.

Basit is a clown and the other guy needs to grow a pair. How can he let someone slap him like that and cry on national media.

Basit is the crudest and the most budtameez cricketer I have ever seen, on TV.

Basit Ali withdraws resignation after meeting with PCB chairman

KARACHI – Pakistan’s women cricket team head coach and Chief Selector of junior team Basit Ali has withdrawn his resignations.

Basit Ali has reviewed his decision of resigning from the post after meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Khan along with Mahmood Hamid, who he slapped earlier this week for slamming him in a TV show.

“I have taken back my resignations after meeting Shahryar Khan, told Pakistan’s former test cricketer,” Basit Ali said, adding, “PCB is satisfied with my performance”. Basit Ali also told media that he will hold only one of the two posts now.

Basit Ali earlier resigned from both his posts of the PCB after he slapped Mahmood Hamid in National Stadium, Karachi during a domestic game. He slapped him for criticising him for holding multiple posts in PCB and for poor performance of women’s team.

However, PCB had taken the notice of that issue and Shahryar Khan had made it clear that any incident of physical abuse will not be tolerated.

He had also announced that the board will investigate the matter and it will take three to four days.

But, Basit Ali apologized to Mahmood Hamid after he received heavy criticism for his act and it seems now that everything has settled down between the two former cricketers.

As the whole thing is very childish, Maybe they can do the play ground thing and allow Hamid to slap him back.

Sheharyar Mohammad Khan has relieved Basit Ali from his duties in regard to the Women's Team and Junior Teams

The Chairman PCB, Sheharyar Mohammad Khan, has relieved Basit Ali from his duties in regard to the Women's Team and Junior Teams.

The Chairman's decision came after he had separate meetings with Basit Ali and Mahmood Hamid in Karachi following an alleged brawl between the two. Although the two had reconciled, Basit Ali admitted to an intent to physically harm Mahmood Hamid.

The Chairman has accordingly withdrawn Basit Ali from the currently sensitive assignments with the woman's and junior teams.

However, the Chairman has noted that there would be no general ban on Basit Ali's future coaching assignments with PCB or other teams.

Basit should be banned even commentary. This guy has nothing but big mouth.

Oh no, now that he isn't an employee of the PCB Basit will be on tv a lot claiming, without any proof, that Pakistan and others are fixing matches left, right and centre.

Good job Mr. Chairman , now do the same to Misbah and YK for different reasons , after the tour and then please retire yourself too, thanks.

One of the strangest people I have ever had to deal with.

Unpredictable - at times friendly, other times very rude.

Basit Ali has always been a violate character, on-field and off it. He deserves to be kicked out of any Cricketing duties for a very long time.

Somehow he always seems to worm his way back into coaching roles.

Some of the Pak A players were telling me that he was an idiot on tour in England last year, yet nothing was done about it.

Not gonna lie I laugh when I hear someone gets slapped :)))
But honestly speaking I don't like Basit Ali working with Pak cricket, he does seem to let his emotions get the better of him.

Freedom of speech

Freedom of speech doesn't mean private companies can't refuse to hire you, it just means you can say what you like without being put in jail.

I have observed slap is superior to punch in conflict resolution.

Definitely, you won't break your fingers/hand if you slap someone.

Another turn in the Basit-Hamid scuffle

Basit on Monday was relieved of his duties as the head of junior selection committee and head coach of women’s cricket team following an alleged brawl between him and Mahmood Hamid over his comments during a television show.

Former Test batsman Basit Ali is likely to be reinstated as the chief of the junior selection committee by the Pakistan Cricket Board, it has been learnt.

Ali was relieved by PCB of his duties as chief of the junior selection committee and head coach of national women’s team earlier this week, after his spat with former international cricketer Mahmood Hamid at Karachi’s National Stadium turned ugly.

According to media reports, Basit after a heated argument at the NSK slapped Mahmood making the matter serious.

A PCB official, who wished not to be named, told DawnNews that Ali was expected to get one of his assignment back. A notification is this regard is likely to be issued soon, he added.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan had relieved Basit Ali of his duties in regard to the women’s team and junior teams, a statement had announced.

When you have incompetent people like Basit Ali part of the junior selection committee it explains a lot why are our domestic cricket is flooded with trundlers and hacks.

Get Basit Ali out of our cricket.

We need top scouts in charge of junior selection, this is where it all begins.

Basit Ali likely to be reinstated as chief of junior selection committee

KARACHI: Former Test batsman Basit Ali is likely to be reinstated as the chief of the junior selection committee and an announcement will be made soon by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Earlier this week, Basit was relieved by the board from his duties as chief of the junior selection committee and head coach of national women’s team following a spat with former international cricketer Mahmood Hamid at the National Stadium in Karachi.

“It has been decided that Basit will lead the junior selection committee alongside Amir Nazir and Farrukh Zaman,” a PCB official told The Express Tribune.

Both Basit and Zaman have previously served in the junior selection committee. While the former played 19 Tests between 1993 and 1995 for Pakistan, the latter only represented the national side in one Test in 1976.

The coaching panel of U19 team will also be announced along with the selection committee, which includes head coach Mansoor Rana, assistant Abdul Rehman, and manager Nadeem Khan.

According to media reports, Basit had slapped Mahmood after a heated argument at the National Stadium exacerbating the situation.

Subsequently, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan relieved Basit from his duties in regard to the women’s team and junior teams on January 2.

Kabir Khan named head coach of Pakistan women’s team

KARACHI: Former Test cricketer Kabir Khan has been named Pakistan women’s cricket team head coach after Basit Ali was relieved from the duties on January 2.

According to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official, Kabir will be heading the coaching panel alongside batting coach Shahid Anwer and fielding coach Iqbal Imam. Ayesha Ashar will be team’s manager.

Kabir was previously the head coach of HBL team and led them to victory in the recently concluded National One-Day Cup. He has also coached Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team in the domestic circuit.

The national women’s team was left without a coach last week when Basit was relieved from his duties following a spat with former international cricketer Mehmood Hamid at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Meanwhile, the selection committee will consist of Muhammad Ilyas as chairman along with members Nadeem Abbasi and Urooj Mumtaz.

Ilyas has served as head of the section committee for the men’s team in 2011. He was subsequently suspended by the PCB for alleged breach of conduct for criticising all-rounder Shahid Afridi and appearing on a TV show with then-banned cricketer Salman Butt.

On the other hand, Abbasi has been associated with the Rawalpindi team as head coach, while Urooj has been in the section committees before as well.

I watched his interview post the alleged brawl. Either he is being implicated or he lies to his teeth. Basit's narration would make you believe that he is the most kindest and polite guy who has graced the planet. He told how he spoke extremely softly and kept on calming the other guy.

PCB reinstates Basit Ali as Chairman of national junior selection committee

Karachi: Just two weeks after sacking former Test batsman, Basit Ali as Chairman of the national junior selection committee and head coach of the national women’s team, the Pakistan cricket board (PCB) has again restored him as chief junior selector. On January 2nd, PCB chief Shahryar Khan removed Basit from both his official assignments after he was involved in a brawl with former international batsman, Mahmood Hamid at the national stadium. According to Hamid, Basit had slapped him for criticising him on a television talk show. Shaharyar later said in a press release that Basit had been penalized for misconduct and insisted that the board would never condone or accept any physical altercation from anyone including its employees.

But interestingly just two weeks after that statement the PCB has had a change of heart and Basit is back to head the national junior selection committee, again highlighting the indecisiveness and politics that run deep in Pakistan cricket. Basit, 46, who played 19 Tests and 50 one-day internationals, had also accompanied the Pakistan A team as head coach to England last summer. Meanwhile, the PCB remains hopeful of hosting international cricket soon despite a decision by Cricket West Indies (CWI) to pass on an offer of a two-game Twenty20 International series in Lahore, reported IANS.

Pakistan has not hosted a major cricketing nation since 2009 because of terrorist attacks and had hoped the West Indies would have accepted the invitation for the two games in March, in return for the Asian side playing a similar series in Florida, United States later that month, reports CMC.

hope this is true, yk one of the few ex pak players i trust, altho given his history of not being a yes man, dont know how long he'll last.

Again, the Qayyum Inquiry found Basit Ali guilty of extremely serious fixing offences, and took no action on the basis that he had left cricket forever.

Ridiculous if that is true.
Just shameful.

It’s not easy being a foreign wellwisher of Pakistan Cricket when this sort of thing happens.

Then again, Qayyum made extremely serious findings against Inzamam too - of what amounts to “obstruction of justice” in American law or “perverting the course of justice” in British law, but because he’s religious Pakistanis think that that is somehow a character reference and that it’s okay for him to be the Chief Selector.

Whereas I would have given Inzamam a lifetime ban from cricket like the Indians do.

Basit, Inzi, Waqar, Moin and their fellow convicted mates should never be near our cricket setup. These guys are cancerous. I don't why PCB can't implement report of Justice Qayyums commission.
