The last tweet contained an image of some of the comments on social media, way too disgusting to add here though.

Checked the image, oh my, that is terrible!

This is however to be expected, and people are waking up to the standard of Indian fans.

Twitter abuse is one thing, FB is just some next level!

Such reactions and insecurity do no favours for the perception of India's fans. This is why there is a growing movement specifically to get a rise out of India fans by trolling them. Not just in Cricket, BBC do it almost on a daily basis by posting news on India just for the giggles.

Easy pickings I guess.

Try doing that to a Man U or a Barca and the response will be similar, if not worse.

@Mods: Can't we club all the IPL related news threads together? I'm expecting another round of similar discussions.

IPL has become a negotiating tool for the Indians. Say good and be good to us...IPL contract. Say bad stuff to us or about us...revoke IPL contract.

As shaz619 eloquently put in another thread...."people only make positive comments about India due to an IPL contract"

If they don't understand banter or colloquial command of English they shouldn't be interacting with these players. When England toured they had messages on the big screen being passed through and they didn't even understand Madeleine McCann references and etc. These people need to have some lessons on conversational and social English.

Indian fans showing their class once again. :)) The most embarrassing bunch of cretins in cricket.

Generalising a country with millions of cricket fans based on some random internet trolls. Well done.

Some Indian fans are embarrassing on social media. I have seen this behaviour from there before on Facebook as well. They need to stop being so sensitive.

Indians are quite simple minded in this regard. They are not very good at picking up sarcasm so westerners should be wary.

Depicts the general behavior of the Indian public these days whether it's IPL or running government you just cannot criticize

Lot of people with Twitter accounts. Also who is to say that the person abusing Duckett is not actually a Pakistani? No point jumping to conclusions.

My view is that it is sad what is happening and Twitter should act to kill such accounts.

Abuse on Twitter seems to be the norm these days.

Keyboard warriors who just want to abuse all and sundry.

Its poorly moderated despite innumerable trolls. A lot of stuff that gets trended is due to retweets that are bought. And not to forget, its the prime platform to spread fake news.
A few reasons why I remain away from twitter.

Just shows how fierce the fan following is for IPL. People here probably haven't seen the reactions of hooligans in EPL or in NFL. When fans are crazy about their team, they will rip apart anyone that belittles their team.

Great, a Mickey Mouse league with no history is being compared to leagues that have in some cases have over 100's of years of History and identity.

He wasn't ripping at the team. Read the tweet. It was sarcasm....

A well known figure like him should have been more careful while attempting to make a sarcastic remark. He should have realized that his tweet could have been interpreted wrongly by his followers.

I enjoy trolling Indians as much as the next Pakistani, but to be honest there are idiots from all countries on Twitter. Can't generalize all fans on the basis of a few foul-mouthed individuals.

Still not a huge statement though to warrant such a response. Twitter needs to do a better job at cracking down trolls.

A decade of history and a billion viewers world wide shows that history is over rated. The per game revenue has already usurped many leagues with much stories histories.

As I mentioned, its the same in other areas too - other sports, politics (e.g. related to Trump), entertainment i.e. music, bollywood, hollywood etc. Twitter is a hotbed of trolls. Facebook isn't far behind either.

After Bangladesh, India easily has the worst cricket fans in the whole cricket world. It is a matter of huge shame.

These people must behave. They don't deserve internet or social media.

Indian fans online are extrenely sensitive. This is not even generalizing, because you seldom find people who understand satire or sarcasm. Not sure if it's culture or basic illiteracy

You can viewers galore, but the fact is that its still a mickey mouse league. You cant buy history, so dont claim for it something that it will never be. I got to admit i dont watch it with any great interest but when i do, it seems that individual players are more supported than teams. It reminds me more of an exhibition or musical concert than of a Sporting contest.

It’s exactly this.

People are saying that Indians and RCB fans are rude and immature which can’t be any further from the truth.

This is just internet culture where anyone can hurl abuse at anyone without any consequence.

I stopped opening the comments section on cricket pages on Twitter and FB because of these trolls...it's not worth replying to them with facts because you'll only cop more abuse.

As a casual viewer, you comparing it to a musical concert is more than what IPL aspires for. An entertainment experience for a neutral viewer that doesn't have any stake in it. Now imagine how it is for local fans who actually follow their team. And now look at the sheer number of those people supporting their teams. And notice that there isn't any other competetion to this league during the tournament. The tournament has already built a decade of history and is over taking other leagues in revenues per game already. Advertisers are not idiots to pay millions.

Funny thing is pakistanis are getting riled up and picking up all these news from social media that too when they dont really care about ipl. Talk a lot about identity crisis you are suffring from.

People think it's only a subcontinental/Indian problem, open up Fox fb page someday, also we all know what happened when Eagles won or football hooligans.

We have much higher population than those countries.

The only decent sportsmanship have seen are that of Toronto Raptors and basically most teams of Toronto and yeah obviously Japan.

It's not a problem, it's a symptom.

Firstly I do not agree with the comparison with hooliganism. Yes granted hooliganism is way worse, because it also gets physical too, but most importantly, Football is inherently a working class game whereas cricket is not. Football has had violent/abusive fans since day one! Cricket no.

Secondly, the point I am making here is Indian fans were NEVER like this. What has changed? I think the behaviour of Indian fans has changed in line with India’s progression in the past 10 years or so.

It's just all too easy for these guys to abuse anyone they want to.

Post a stat and people start abusing your family. Crazy stuff.

Don't really follow Twitter/FB/YT that much but most of the responses from the Desis are horrifying to say the least. And these are supposed to be the educated ones. The level of hate/brainwashing/misinformation is incredulous.

You answered your own question. India's progression and with it the self respect has increased. The sustained chauvinism and jingoism are always by products of immense pride.

You call it self-respect? I call it insecurity/superiority complex.

There is no pretense here. They believe their team is the best and can't stand a 2 bit player like Duckett mocking their team. I don't think they will abuse the way they did if it was Lara commenting on RCB line up. It is superiority complex and it comes from self respect as India is doing well.

Why do these trolls always take it to your mum or sister? Can't they think of something original. It's basic English to understand what Duckett is trying to say about RCB, why would a cricketer mock a team with the best players in the world? Embarrassing!

There was no internet or Facebook or Twitter 15 years ago..point is such people exist everywhere and not restricted to a particular country...and because of India s population, probability of that is more...

Well no one knew how anyone was till social media came through, so I don't know but i do know that 1996 Eden gardens happened as well.

Sour grapes from nobody player .... Before jumping to conclusions all key board warriors should think twice it's Twitter ... Troll Paradise, painting billion people country with same brush shows personal hate and insecurity more than anything else

Indians acting like IPL is some national treasure :)))

Yeah, why not. Wjhats wrong with that? Just as County Cricket is synonymous with England. After all IPL is all about India which other T20's leagues around the world, including our own PSL, is trying to emulate

For all those chest thumping and criticizing here, I'd say you are clueless. All the abuse/hate coming from these keyboard warriors, hiding behind the anonymity of the internet is nothing.
Come here to the UK and watch a live soccer game to see what abuse looks and feels like. It is very much prevalent across all sports including cricket. Have seen plenty of instances of fans from all nationalities behaving like animals including Pakistan. So yeah, don't judge them all off a few bad apples. Besides, who the heck even knows who is posting on the internet.

Saj bhai, this forum would have been the same if not for the moderators who work tirelessly to keep it clean.

Kuddos to PP moderators.

lol Indians and Pakistanis are so immature on social media. They go straight to disgusting insults. Makes you feel embarrassed.

Happens among all subcontinent teams fans.

Very normal , though bad. Yes, our fans do it too no matter if you're in denial.

So this is the guy who poured a drink on Anderson and was booted from the Australia tour. :)) He's got some nerve complaining about indiscipline from Indian tweeters.

And big lol at those Pakistanis here trying to jump on his bandwagon just cuz IPL and India is involved

So Indians did the right thing by abusing him? Yes i know Pakistanis do it too but that is no defence. Wrong is wrong.

There is no right or wrong on the internet. If you put yourself out there in public and reap the benefits of twitter followers, you also need to be able to handle the critical ones and not act like a sensitive swan especially when you've recently been docked for your own poor behavior.

This is not specific to IPL. A day on Indian social media ( or any where else) typically has slanging matches between Sharukh and Aamir fans, Dhoni and Kohli fans, political abuses and shaming individuals with a divergent view are the norm.

Why is there no right and wrong on the internet? There is right and wrong everywhere so kindly dont try to portray social media as something that exists in state of nature where people can talk like savages if they want.

Yes he needs to be able to handle the critical ones. The crictical ones, not the ones who spout filth. Do you consider the words which he was showered with as criticism?

Ben might have done something wrong but does that mean he can be verbally abused whenever he says something? i am sure the people who were abusing him weren't abusing him for his past behaviour anyway.

Try doing that to a Man U or a Barca and the response will be similar, if not worse.

@Mods: Can't we club all the IPL related news threads together? I'm expecting another round of similar discussions.

Excuse me, did you just try to compare ManU and Barca with RCB?

We have one thread for IPL news but this is different and needs a sep discussion.

Read carefully. He compared the fans

RCB fans mostly live in Bangalore or at least in India, the majority of Barca and Manu 'fans' couldn't find Manchester or Barcelona on a map. So RCB fans are better and if more people support IPL teams instead of British (those guys who ruled subcontinent for 200 years) football teams it'd be better for the IPL

This is why most sensible Indian fans detest IPL. Their fans are just a mob of half educated jokers are crawling out of villages and just discovering the Internet. Terrible.

i guess he gave too much credit to indians in terms of their comprehension abilities...

Sport fans acting like cretins on the internet. What's new?

Adding in the fact that most twitter accounts nowadays are just troll accounts you can see why this happens. In fact, many people have now decided that the best way to be famous is to continuously troll fans just to get a rise and response out of them. You increase your presence, stay in the news, and can also play the victim card at the end of it. Complete win-win.

Disgusting stuff, why are all the trolls on the internet usually from India i dont get it, way too much free time on these guys hands.

Duckett appreciates the RCB team a few hours later Indian fans are talking about his mother in disgusting ways swearing at him and his family.

The more concerning thing for me here is that some Indians think that such behaviour would be acceptable if Duckett was actually criticising rcb

They're honestly the most insecure people I have seen. Extremely unpleasant bunch in general. Average Indian on social media are extremely abusive and ill mannered, with zero tolerance for jokes or sarcasm, and zero sense of humor

Saw a screen shot he posted in which KKR fan was abusing him.Trolls always make these kind of silly mistakes
