It is an extremely difficult task for asian teams to travel SENAW nations and perform well. Asian teams have rare series wins in those countries. It is considered significant achievement for any asian side even to draw series in those alien conditions.
India is the only country to beat Australia in Australia while Sri Lanka remains only nation from subcontinent to win series in South Africa.
Pakistan have always performed well in England.
Asian teams have fared well recently in West indies as it become a weak team but beating New Zealand in their home is still tougher task.
I have made a combined team of asian players who did great jobs while touring these difficult countries. This team consists of some absolute legends of the game with some surprise selections.
My criteria for selection was mainly stats and impact.
Sunil Gavaskar
3858 runs, 51.57 average, 15 hundreds
No Asian team can be completed without Gavaskar opening in it. This legendary opener was highly impressive in West Indies, England and Australia. His performance in his debut West Indies tour was nothing short of miracle.
Rahul Dravid
5420 runs, 53.13 average, 13 hundreds
Sadly, i find no suitable regular opener to partner Gavaskar at the top. So, i went with Rahul Dravid as makeshift opener. Dravid has highest average by Asian in these countries although his returns in South Africa and Australia were modest.
Kumar Sangakkara
2764 runs, 44.58 average, 7 hundreds
Surprisingly, Sangakkara's average in these countries is way below than his career average. But, he has played some classic innings in England and Australia.
Sachin Tendulkar
6007 runs, 50.90 average, 18 hundreds
Sachin Tendulkar's record in SENAW countries is another proof why he is labelled as Greatest ever batsman from Asia. This right hander has scored most runs and centuries by an Asian in these countries.
Virat Kohli
3570 runs, 43.53 average, 12 hundreds
Mid 40s average doesn't indicate Kohli's impact on those away tour. He is the most successful Asian captain and unsurprisingly he is leading this team as well.
Imran Khan
1741 runs, 34.13 average, 2 hundreds, 157 wickets, 26.11 average, 11 fifers, 3 10fers
One of the greatest ever allrounder of all times. Khan was equally effective with both bat and ball in SENAW countries.
Rishab Pant
1050 runs, 35 average, 2 hundreds
This might be surprising selection to many, but Rishab's short career has already created more impact than many great Asian wicketkeepers. His series changing performance in Australia was enough to pick him as Wicketkeeper in the team.
Shakib Al Hasan
872 runs, 39.63 average, 2 hundreds, 49 wickets, 26.08 average, 5 fifers
This might trigger many and some may find this selection laughable. But, many would be surprised to know that Shakib has lowest average by asian spinner in SENAW nations. Adding to this, he is one of the very few to have double ton in New Zealand. But sadly, due to playing in weak team, Shakib has low impact as a player.
Wasim Akram
181 wickets, 24.65 average, 13 fifers, 4 ten fers
Best fast bowler from Asia has performed incredibly well in SENAW. He has taken by most number of wickets by an Asian pacer there with great average and impact.
Muttiah Muralitharan
157 wickets, 25.67 average, 14 fifers, 5 ten fers
Like many great spinners, Murali was ineffective in Australia but he was tremendous in England and New Zealand. His 5 ten fers are most by any asian in SENAW.
Jasprit Bumrah
97 wickets, 21.45 average, 6 fifers
Bumrah has a fifer in each SENAW nation except New Zealand. He has best average for any bowler from asia in those countries. Bumrah's match winning spells in those away tours has already won India many matches.
Javed Miandad
3340 runs, 46.38average, 9 hundreds
Miandad is 12th man of this team. He was highly impressive in England but was below his best in West Indies. This champion batsman has scored his runs with an impressive average.
My teams consists of 6 Indians, 3 Pakistanis, 2 Sri Lankans and sole member from Bangladesh.
Some very high quality players like Anil Kumble (highest wicket taker), Waqar Younis, Kapil Dev, VVS Laxman, Inzamam Ul Haq, Mohinder Amarnath and Mohd Yousuf were unlucky to miss out.
Team
Sunil Gavaskar
Rahul Dravid
Kumar Sangakkara
Sachin Tendulkar
Virat Kohli (Capt)
Imran Khan
Rishab Pant (WK)
Shakib Al Hasan
Wasim Akram
M Muralitharan
Jasprit Bumrah
12th man- Javed Miandad
Can this team challenge any SENAW nation in their own backyard ?
