Yes, you can tell that by looking at the size of people's waists. :uak

Never been to Lahore, but that restaurant where you eat on the balcony overlooking Badshahi mosque sure looks dope.

While I do think Karachi generally has better food than Lahore, some dishes in Lahore are very hard to beat. GoGo's club sandwich is one of the best tasting things you can eat in Pakistan.

I havent been to Lahore for a good 3-4 years but to me Lahori food always seemed more about the experience than the quality of the food. But Id think Lahoris would give a good idea. Dont want to compare and start a debate but what I do know is that as far as fine dining is concerned Karachi just beats Lahore easily.

I might be going there in May so looking forward to replies.

Ive had almost everything good there is to have in Lahore and while most of the food still tastes great, it doesn't compare to Karachi as a whole.

Lahore has some great chinese food places though. Overall probably better than Karachi's

That new burger place that just opened in Defence and is getting a lot of hype is extremely overrated. People will buy into any kind of hype. A lot of these mediocre burger places are opening up in Karachi too and becoming very popular

I would recommend goga chana for lahori nashta. I miss it a lot. Lahore is full of many other excellent chana places as well.

I also miss sardar & siddique machli dearly. Their only flaw is that they have unhygienic seating area which is why i don't recommend it for families.

But if you are single and can overlook the hygiene fact, their fish is probably the best and must try especially during the current cold weather.

I went to Lahore once.

Had karhai at jawa restuarant and at butt at Gaddafi.

Best karhai I ever had in my life

The true beauty of lahore's food doesn't lie in MM alam or posh areas like DHA which is good for fine dining experience but in their old restaurants & especially the street foods.

Some of the places good for food are anarkali, laxmi chowk, mazang & liberty market. Also their are many restaurants which i will mention when i have time which are desi style & located in different areas and must try for anybody visiting lahore. These desi style restaurants have two flaws & those are unhygienic seating plus almost all of them have small or no family section.

Gaddafi has other good restaraunts like dera & fazlehaq dera that are equally awesome.

thats fine if its worth it.

which place would you recommend?

Freddy's is my personal favorite in that area (those steaks. It's the place to go if you're tired of curry tasting steaks at Pakistani steak houses). There's Tabaq and Village if you're into desi. Ginsoy is decent if you're looking for Chinese but if you want Chinese or Thai in Lahore, I can't recommend Golden Wok, in Y block DHA, enough. It's up there with China Town and Wang Fu (both in ISB) in my top 3 Chinese restaurants in Pakistan. I haven't lived in LHE since mid 2007 and my last visit was in January 2016 so some new places might have opened up but the one place that will always remain close to my heart, and gut, is Golden Wok (which isn't on MM.Alam).

Golden Wok is amazing. As I said before, Lahore has the best Chinese food in Pakistan. The best single dish at a Chinese restaurant in Pakistan would have to be Dynasty's tiger prawns though in Karachi

Damn, you guys are all such gourmands.

I used to make do with samosa chaat from roadside stalls, the ones next to the open gutters.

Last time I visited Lahore I went to thia outdoor restaurant called Dera, you sit on this desi bed and eat food. Best Pakistani food ever. There's also this gym in lahore with nice restaurants that my cousins would take me too but you gotta have connections to get into.

Did the open gutters add to the flavour?

Absolutely. As did the diesel fumes, dust, grime, flies, adulterated ingredients et al. Food from fancy restaurants would probably feel so much bland and sterile in comparison. Not that I would know.

Most of the restaurants named above will get you food poisoning. If you want to go to good restaurants go to MM Alam Road there are some very good restaurants like Cafe Natalya,Pomelo Avenue,Cafe Zouk,Arcadian,English Tea House and good Chinese restaurants like Yum,East,Bamboo Union and good Pakistani restaurants like Qabail (owned by my former teacher),Spice Bazaar etc. There are good restaurants in Defence as well like Billy Bunter's
