Above is the list of all the batsmen who made 500+ runs this year.

I'd be surprised if Kohli doesn't get most of the votes :13:

Along with the runs and average, you also need to look at where those runs were scored.

Kohli has outperformed every batsman on tour of Sourh Africa, England and one Australia till now. That should make him the winner.

Without a doubt Virat Kohli has been the best batsman this year.

I voted for Kane Williamson overall. Don't get me wrong, Kohli has been fantastic but ultimately India lost the big series whereas NZ won their hardest series, Pakistan away, and Williamson played a huge role in the games NZ won, and was MOM in the decider.

King Kohli is my choice. Special shout out to King Kane and gosh is Karunaratne under rated or what !!! It is like the year of the Ks :salute

I feel it will be a very long time before another Asian batsman comes close to what :vk has done in SENA in a single year, that too on such spicy pitches. With this year Kohli has sealed his ATG status beyond doubt, even his worst critics (myself included :) ) have no option but to give him his due.

Kane for me.
Babar's improvement is a very pleasant surprise.Hope he improves further.

Kohli. It’s just so obvious. I guess most guys here haven’t seen any of his knocks in England.

What about Henry Nicholls? He should be on the list with an average of 60+. He has been better than most of those players.

Kohli.

A majority of Williamson's runs have come against Pak and SL.

While Kohli outperformed English batsmen in their own home. Dominated in SA and just played a tremendous knock in Australia.

That's 3 of the top 5 teams in Test cricket and all away tours.

Also those were all low scoring high quality bowling test series where apart from Kohli batsmen from both countries failed miserably.

And he literally has double the runs Williamson scored.

Usman Khawaja takes my vote for his master class match saving 140 on 5th day of Dubai against super Shah. A very rare innings indeed. Certainly reminded me of Shoaib Malik match saving 148* runs inning in Colombo back in 2006 against Murli when he batted out last 2 days.

Virat Kohli with Williamson as close second. Babar 3rd.

Had Babar gone on to convert his 68* in England into hundred and followed it up with a good score in the next test I'd have put him at second, maybe even first if he made another big score.

Though I would point out that the year isn't over yet. It's highly unlikely but if suppose Babar manages to score 120+ in a winning cause in the first test perceptions may change significantly. Kohli isn't done yet as well, if he puts up another big score or on the other hand if he fails badly perceptions may change again. Williamson has another match coming up as well.

Kohli for this year, improved on his weakness gave respect to good bowlers and worked on staying at the crease, tremendous improvement and overcame his biggest challenge England as well.

Worst batsman KL Rahul if there is a thread coming up for that!

IMO worst batsman award should be toss up between Rahane and Shafiq. Flattering to deceive throughout year and contributing just enough runs to keep position secure.

Unexpected overachievers should be Karunaratne and Pujara.

Kohli definitely. I think his average for the year undersells how great he has been. SA and England tours were extremely low scoring and he was miles ahead of every other batsman on both tours. And has continued dominating on Australia with another great ton on a difficult pitch. 2018 will go down as the year kohli truly cemented himself as a test ATG.

Williamson has been excellent but hasn't played enough.

Williamson could score a triple in the last test of this year, while Kohli fetches a pair - and YET the Kiwi won't come close to Kohli as a batsman this year.

Kohli toured three of the toughest countries for a subcontinental batsman, faced three bowling attacks who are as good as it gets - in their own tailor made home conditions - and trumped everyone.

Kohli has no rival.

Shafiq is the most spineless batsman ever to play for Pakistan. Hafeez sucked, but he at least opened. Shafiq is a disappointing player.

What about Henry Nicholls? He should be on the list with an average of 60+. He has been better than most of those players.

As I stated Nicholls should've been nominated. 3 big very good not out 100s (could've easily got a double) in 7 tests against 3 different teams at an average of 73.

I can't believe how in the world could people vote for anyone other than Kohli in this poll?

Just cos Kane got a higher average?

Man....

The stuff Kohli did this year was stuff of legends.

I thought he would get like 99% of the votes.

Kohli followed by Kane & Karunaratne.

Not sure if there is a need for a thread for this. Kohli has out batted everyone this year.

Kohli easily.

Kane has been phenomenal but thank NZC for not scheduling enough tests for him to be even better.
