So recent events in the England India test prompted me to open this as it seems there's lots of opinions.

For those who don't know, black humour is humour thats considered in really bad taste. I would post an example but it'd likely get deleted, google if you wish.

I personally like it. I'd never do it publicly whatsoever but among my friends in private literally anything is fair game.

Whats your opinion?

I laugh at them a lot, but there is also a sense of guilt about reacting that way ( which makes it even more fun).

Not a fan of it. Some people find it funny, but I think there's so much material to get humor out of that it's not necessary to delve into some real life tragic event to get amusement out of.

Though everyone finds different things funny, which is fine.

Subconsciously though I think I'm also kind of paranoid that if I poke fun at someone else's suffering, that it may happen to me, kind of like karma.

In the right setting (i.e. among friends/comedy club) it's acceptable and can be funny. With comedians, it's fine because audience members should know what they're getting into. Frankie Boyle is quite clear about his comedy, so a person finding it offensive is silly to attend.

BUT, doing it in a setting where you're with strangers or acquaintances is in real poor taste.

I'm for it but obviously there is a time and place.

Pretty much my view.

I am a big fan of it, but since the onset of social media and globalisation I accept that it isn't acceptable in many circumstances. The problem being that many people use it to mask genuine bigotry. "Oh I'm just kidding!!!" ( but not really).

It's a shame because it can be wonderful when used without malice.

Huge fan of Black Humor !! I listen to a lot of Daniel Tosh and he's practically the king of such a genre....

The guy let's it loose for the 50 odd minutes he does his show for !!

Yes. Love dark humour. For me Pulp Fiction is the best example of it. People these days are just too damn soft though

When I opened this thread I thought you were talking about black people humour.

What you meant was dark humour..

black humor would entail a comedy act by chris rock

Every joke is funny until its about the guy next to you.

Fine as long as it is applied and understood in context. Cop humour is black. Soldier humour is black. Prison Officer humour is black. They need it to help them stay cheerful when dealing with hard situations.

Maybe its a cultural thing between the Yanks/Canucks and the Europeans.

Black humour here generally means twisted/dark jokes and stuff. In America I suppose with a large African American population it means otherwise.

a joke ain't funny if its not racists or have that offensive touch.

I much prefer gallows' humor. Not as bad in taste, just as dark and morbid.

This is exactly the reason why it needs to be kept in it's context where it's understood. Someone who doesn't understand it's purpose probably thinks racism or being offensive is funny.

For some reason 'Black comedy' and 'Dark Humor' sounds better than 'Dark comedy' and 'Black Humor'.

In civilized world it is called "Dark Humor" and not "Black Humor". Yes I do love them as long as it offends someone else and not me.

I Googled Black Humour Muslim Scholar and it showed this Video :

Is this black humour ? Why it is done ? Its a pillar ?

Socially no. But in the movies or TV its Ok. Lots of gansgter movies have them especially scorcese's. Joe pesci kept cracking me up while whacking everybody like a psycho in goodfellas.

Tarantino too is a master of this. The whole pulp fiction was dark humor at its best. Sopranos too had dark humor in abundance

I love black humour ! Fact is that life is harsh in the subcontinent ! Standards of living /Healtcare/Life expectancy/Religion/Culture etc all get a bit too much at times. I think, to see things in a humorous light makes it a bit easier to handle..

Of course , there is a time and place for everything . And you have to know your crowd. :srt
