Boxing Legend Muhammed Ali passes away at age 74

My father tells me that back in the day in Pakistan, shops would close for his fight. People of all age groups, including women would take interest in his fights.

Yes it is true that people back then had fewer choices, but it still shows the impact and aura this man had.

His greatness transcends all technicalities of boxing. There might be better fighters than him but no one is greater than him.

''The hands can't hit what the eyes can't see.''

Wish Afridi and a few other Pakistani batsmen would have listened to him all those years ago.

If you consider Ali of 1967 - 68 , No one was better than him , he was just different level altogether.

I think this short statement just about sums it up best, except that it spanned more than one generation. miandadrules has already pointed out that his peak years were stolen from him when he was stripped of his title and his licence to box after refusing to back the Vietnam war. That he still went on to win world titles after his greatest assets of speed and agility were no longer there says everything about his unnatural boxing talent. I saw a video of the Cleveland Williams fight years ago and I think it was former US president Bill Clinton who summed it up best. You weren't sure whether you were watching a boxer or a ballerina.

His movements were like a lightweight , just incredible that a heavyweight was doing it.

RIP The Legend!

He was much more than a talented boxer which made him the greatest. The sacrifices he made based on principles is what made him the greatest sportsmen.

Also Muhamamad beat 3 of the greatest heavyweights ever Liston, Foreman and Frazier the latter 2 when past his best.

Very few have ever managed to beat 3 whom are arguably considered in the top 10 best ever of their weight category and those that came close had well over a hundred fights.

OUISVILLE, Ky. — Muhammad Ali's Kentucky hometown will honor the late boxer by renaming its airport for him.

The Louisville Regional Airport Authority's board voted Wednesday to change the name to Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. Ali would have turned 77 Thursday. He died in 2016.

Ali's widow, Lonnie Ali, said in a news release from the board that she is proud of the name change. She said although Ali was a "global citizen," he never forgot his hometown.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer cited research showing that Ali's name recognition is greater than Louisville's and said he's organizing a group to work toward celebrating Ali's Louisville ties more broadly.

The airport board said the decision came after a working group studied renaming the airport for more than a year.
